MANNHEIM STEAMROLLER: CHRISTMAS IN CONCERT:
Mannheim Steamroller have been innovators of the neo-classical genre for over 40 years, blending the finest orchestral sections with electronic elements and a hint of rock to arrive at their remarkably unique sound. Not only are their live performances sonically robust, but they're visually stimulating as well, featuring an incredible light show and illustrations that dance across giant projection screens. Whether they're playing originals like "Catching Snowflakes on Your Tongue" or classics like "Joy to the World," Mannheim Steamroller will have fans in the holiday spirit this season on their 2014 Christmas tour.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Mannheim Steamroller is the alias of composer Chip Davis, who created the moniker from "Mannheim roller", a musical technique that was popular in Germany during the 1700s. Davis initially sought a record label to release his music, but the lack of interest led to the creation of his own label American Gramophone for his 1975 debut album Fresh Aire. He went on to release seven more albums in the Fresh Aire series, six of which were certified gold by the RIAA. His biggest success, however, came in 1984 with the release of Mannheim Steamroller Christmas, a massive hit and enduring classic of contemporary holiday music. Since then, his Christmas catalog has grown to include thirteen records, containing some of Steamroller's biggest hits and holding the distinction of being some of the most requested Christmas music of all time. With more than 28 million albums sold in the US, Mannheim Steamroller will carry their musical enthusiasm with them throughout their 2014 shows.

This concert met my expectations. I had purchased seating specifically to sit straight on to the stage. My section was closed and we were moved to another section which was on a lower level but faced the side of the stage. While we were still able to enjoy the concert i would have much preferred to be straight on to the stage.
WOW -- what a great show to start off the holidays! The music was even better than we expected. My only recommendation would be that they cut some of the "old English" videos they showed while they were playing.
This concert is a true music experience. It is always a pleasure to be a part of the concert!
This concert was incredible! I can still hear the music in my head and visualize them playing. They are all very talented. The Drummer was amazing. I haven't see any band play with such enjoyment and gusto. Next year I plan on taking everyone in my family. It is a concert for all ages!

What an excellent show! We had 3rd row seats and were able to enjoy the interaction of the members close up. The music was fantasitc and the acoustics were terrific. Great show!
My wife and I went to see Mannheim Steamroller in Raleigh on November 29th, knowing that this would be the beginning of the Christmas season for us. As an owner of most of their Christmas albums, I was very familiar with their music. Yet, hearing them live, for the third time, brought chills to my spine and tears to my eyes. Their renditions of some of the world's great holiday music are like no other. Tastefully done, yet full of energy and verve, this group of musicians thrilled me from the opening song to the end of their three song encore. I left the concert with a smile on my face and a wonderful feeling in my heart, knowing that my favorite time of year is now in full swing. Thanks to Chip Davis for creating this sound and for keeping it going, even though he is no longer able to perform his beautiful music in concert.

The music was excellent, the show itself...so-so, but that is ok - I was there for the music & they did not let me down.
The fog that kept coming out during the performance was annoying and irritated my eyes. The music was nothing special...would have spent less money just buying the CD>
so thrilled to be able to attend. unforgettable!!!
The music was great; the special effects and backdrop was not that exciting; it was very amateurish. But I love Manheim so I just closed my eyes and took in the music. Overall a great show.
The music was wonderful!. The stage show was lackluster. The videos used were from the history of the group and are very dated. The video by Chip Davis was a distraction as opposed to a positive addition to the show. The production would be better served by the use of additional lighting or computer generated backgrounds rather than very old videos projected via a poor quality projection system. I would go to the show again tomorrow for the music...not the production.
Bought the tickets for my wife she loved it! I had fun and the music ranged from intersting to down right fun. Sound in VBC still needs work. It took the group and sound techs about two songs to get the sound right. It still was not perfect and the drums were a bit to loud at the wrong time on several occasions. Did not really care for the screen projects behind the group. At times they were distracting and abit cheesy. I did pick up the sight gags in several of the videos and thought those were funny. Seats were perfect for this type of venue. Could sit back and relax and listen with no trouble. Any closer and the sound would have been way to loud. Bad thing about the seats were that they were to small and wife and I felt cramped. Seats were a little low with limited leg room.
I think I have almost every CD Steamroller has made. As much as I love listening to their CDs, to see them live is a memory of a lifetime.
It was amazing.. They wqere the best!! I would love to see them moee often, but the tickets are so high. If you sit further back you cannot see the wonderful interaction they have with each other
This was my first time to see Mannheim Steamroller and it was everything that I expected and more. Look forward to other events in the future.

A wonderful show in a beautiful venue. Awesome to see and hear the live performance of great Christmas classics.
It was just all right. Maybe my expectations were too high but it just wasn't great.
