The first half new music was uneventful and a bit boring. Second half old music was good as previous shows.

MANNHEIM STEAMROLLER: CHRISTMAS IN CONCERT:
Mannheim Steamroller have been innovators of the neo-classical genre for over 40 years, blending the finest orchestral sections with electronic elements and a hint of rock to arrive at their remarkably unique sound. Not only are their live performances sonically robust, but they're visually stimulating as well, featuring an incredible light show and illustrations that dance across giant projection screens. Whether they're playing originals like "Catching Snowflakes on Your Tongue" or classics like "Joy to the World," Mannheim Steamroller will have fans in the holiday spirit this season on their 2014 Christmas tour.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Mannheim Steamroller is the alias of composer Chip Davis, who created the moniker from "Mannheim roller", a musical technique that was popular in Germany during the 1700s. Davis initially sought a record label to release his music, but the lack of interest led to the creation of his own label American Gramophone for his 1975 debut album Fresh Aire. He went on to release seven more albums in the Fresh Aire series, six of which were certified gold by the RIAA. His biggest success, however, came in 1984 with the release of Mannheim Steamroller Christmas, a massive hit and enduring classic of contemporary holiday music. Since then, his Christmas catalog has grown to include thirteen records, containing some of Steamroller's biggest hits and holding the distinction of being some of the most requested Christmas music of all time. With more than 28 million albums sold in the US, Mannheim Steamroller will carry their musical enthusiasm with them throughout their 2014 shows.

by Carlalynn on 11/15/10Progress Energy Center's Mahaffey Theater - St PetersburgThe concert was fabulous. I saw the program and was surprised they didn't list Silent Night and Deck the Halls, but they had planned those for the encore and it was a fabulous way to end the night! I thought it was a little early for a Christmas concert, but it has jump-started my Christmas spirit and I am excited now!

by cotuit1942 on 11/15/10Progress Energy Center's Mahaffey Theater - St PetersburgHighly energetic performance with amazing sychronization. So professional ; yet total fun. Loved the screen activity; but the music over rides all!!!!! Never ceases to amaze me how the live instruments are blended with the synthesizer...that is their greatest distinction. beth

Rating: 4 out of 5 Great concert, horrible seats in Topeka, KS
by crawfora on 11/15/10Topeka Performing Arts Center - TopekaThe music was just what we expected, Mannheim Steamroller is the main Christmas music we listen to every season, so it was wonderful to hear them live. Bottom line: Don't sit in balcony E at TPAC if you want to see the video presentations. Mannheim Steamroller uses a video screen plus lighting to set the atmosphere for each song. Our seats were so horrible, we could only see a sliver of the screen. This was a big, frustrating distraction. It was hard to fully enjoy the music as we were unable to get the full experience. I will definitely go the next time they are in town, but get better seats.
Rating: 5 out of 5by Anonymous on 11/15/10Topeka Performing Arts Center - Topeka I really enjoyed it. The acoustics were great! It was not to loud like some concerts in other locations are. I have always liked their music, and have most of their tapes or CDs. This was the first time I have been able to attend one of their concerts.
Rating: 3 out of 5 Expected more
by ncza on 11/15/10Progress Energy Center's Mahaffey Theater - St PetersburgThe music of Manheim Steamroller was very good, but the production around the show was very lacking. The videos they showed seemed very dated and did not add to the performance at all. My husband was not that excited about going to hear an instrumental performance, but I told him it would be different than just listening to the cd's because they would actually be putting on a show along with the music. I guess my expectations were set a bit high as there was not a show, just music. For the price of the ticket, I expected much more. I will still enjoy their cds this holiday season, but will know in the future to skip the live performance.
Rating: 5 out of 5 A Christmas Tradition
by cloud55 on 11/15/10Topeka Performing Arts Center - TopekaThe music was wonderful, and the musicians had so much fun onstage that we were caught up in the performance. There was not a moment that I was in any way disappointed, but was so glad that we were there. Reliving the experience every time we listen to Mannheim Steamroller's music will be a blessing. Looking forward to next year's concert and hope they return to Topeka.

Rating: 5 out of 5 Mannheim steamroller did not disappoint
by Sherry1541 on 11/15/10Progress Energy Center's Mahaffey Theater - St PetersburgGreat music and plenty of it. Was so interesting to actually "see" how the music of Chip Davis is created. A fun night of music for every age.
Rating: 1 out of 5 Disappointing
by Disappointed77 on 11/15/10Topeka Performing Arts Center - TopekaI was looking forward to this concert and it completely disappointed. The music was lackluster and the accompanying video is in need of a complete update. In all honestly, save your money and listen to the music at home or in your car.
Rating: 5 out of 5by Anonymous on 11/15/10Topeka Performing Arts Center - Topeka Wonderful way to begin the Christmas Season with two full hours of music with Steamroller. Couldn't ask for a better performance.

Rating: 4 out of 5 Exactly what I expected
by stussygoose on 11/15/10Topeka Performing Arts Center - TopekaIt is a tradition in our family to listen to Christmas music while we open presents Christmas morning. MS is what we always listen to! I have always been very involved with music and went to college on a music scholarship. This music was even more amazing live then it is on cd!!!
