MANNHEIM STEAMROLLER: CHRISTMAS IN CONCERT:

Mannheim Steamroller have been innovators of the neo-classical genre for over 40 years, blending the finest orchestral sections with electronic elements and a hint of rock to arrive at their remarkably unique sound. Not only are their live performances sonically robust, but they're visually stimulating as well, featuring an incredible light show and illustrations that dance across giant projection screens. Whether they're playing originals like "Catching Snowflakes on Your Tongue" or classics like "Joy to the World," Mannheim Steamroller will have fans in the holiday spirit this season on their 2014 Christmas tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Mannheim Steamroller is the alias of composer Chip Davis, who created the moniker from "Mannheim roller", a musical technique that was popular in Germany during the 1700s. Davis initially sought a record label to release his music, but the lack of interest led to the creation of his own label American Gramophone for his 1975 debut album Fresh Aire. He went on to release seven more albums in the Fresh Aire series, six of which were certified gold by the RIAA. His biggest success, however, came in 1984 with the release of Mannheim Steamroller Christmas, a massive hit and enduring classic of contemporary holiday music. Since then, his Christmas catalog has grown to include thirteen records, containing some of Steamroller's biggest hits and holding the distinction of being some of the most requested Christmas music of all time.  With more than 28 million albums sold in the US, Mannheim Steamroller will carry their musical enthusiasm with them throughout their 2014 shows.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Great concert with remarkable renditions of Christmas music. They are a very professional ensemble that made the event enjoyable and memorable."

"I loved the Christmas concert!! The music, the video, and the interaction with the audience is amazing! I would definitely go see them again!"

  • Awsome concert

by Tiger on 11/19/24The St. Augustine Amphitheatre - St AugustineRating: 5 out of 5

Fantastic music with a motion picture back drop featuring wonderful visual effects. Old England castles and period costumes compliment the heart pounding original version of Christmas classic songs.

  • Wonderful Concert

by Taz on 11/19/24The St. Augustine Amphitheatre - St AugustineRating: 5 out of 5

The Concert was just wonderful. it was a wonderful night and the Venue was nice. There were a few minor issues. But in the grand scheme of things it was a lovely evening. For folks in the future if you can snag the premium onsite parking grab it and don't rely on the shuttles. We used the shuttle from the park and there was plenty of parking once you got there. Getting there was not very well advertised and the amount of shuttles that were in service could almost guarantee you were going to be late getting to your seat. The shuttle issue really stood out at the end of the concert since it took well over a hour to a 90 minutes to get back to the car. I don't thing they had many shuttles running. I would be surprised if there were more than 6 to 8 shuttle vans running. even the security staff appeard to be a bit concerned about how long it was taking for folks to exite the venue. As for the seating of the venue the seats were comfy enough and there really wasn't a bad seat in the house for the concert it self. Now the background screen effects and that part of the show using that background picture screen, now that is a differant matter. On both sides of the stage hanging down from the scaffoding were the house speakers these impeded seeing the full screen at the back of the stage and unless you were directly in center stage seating, they were going to block your view of that added part of the performance. Was that a deal breaker for the performance of the show, by no means no. The concerrt as I said was fantastic and I would come to see it again but would look for seats that would not be obstructed by stage material. As a side note these speakers looked they could have been place on the extreme edges of the stage and then no one in the audience would have be even noticed the speakers as they would have just blended in the walls of the stage. Thanks and I hope this helps for future concert goers.

Great concert to get us in the Christmas spirit! The full moon and clear sky added to the magic of the night in the outdoor amphitheater!

  • Disappointed in concert

by roespin on 11/19/24The St. Augustine Amphitheatre - St AugustineRating: 2 out of 5

We were very disappointed in the concert that Manheim Steamroller did this year. We have been to their concerts in the past and they were much better i.e. more lively music, more Christmas music , and more relevance to the Christmas spirit. We will not be buying tickets in the future.

  • Excellent!

by LDR on 11/19/24The St. Augustine Amphitheatre - St AugustineRating: 5 out of 5

Excellent concert! It was the best concert I’ve seen in a long time. We plan on seeing them next year if they play here.

  • Just Meh

by BytheSeaBob on 11/19/24The St. Augustine Amphitheatre - St AugustineRating: 3 out of 5

We had average seats, mingle of stage but up in 300 section, actually an area we like. The music was good, not overwhelming or as uplifting as I had expected. Musicians are talented, it seemed uninspired, going through the motions. My biggest negative was the lighting, which appeared to be developed 40 years ago when the troupe started. Inadequate with today’s tech heavy options for visuals, graphics and live shots. Probably wouldn’t recommend

  • Talented Musicians

by Doctor Curt on 11/19/24The St. Augustine Amphitheatre - St AugustineRating: 4 out of 5

The group featured two keyboardists, a bass guitarist, a electronic violinist, a drummer and another percussionist who also played the recorder. They were backed up by some additional violins, violas, french horn, trumpet and a superb oboist. The group played all the classics and the visuals added to the music. This was classic Mannheim Steamroller, and a wonderful evening.
