MANNHEIM STEAMROLLER: CHRISTMAS IN CONCERT:

Mannheim Steamroller have been innovators of the neo-classical genre for over 40 years, blending the finest orchestral sections with electronic elements and a hint of rock to arrive at their remarkably unique sound. Not only are their live performances sonically robust, but they're visually stimulating as well, featuring an incredible light show and illustrations that dance across giant projection screens. Whether they're playing originals like "Catching Snowflakes on Your Tongue" or classics like "Joy to the World," Mannheim Steamroller will have fans in the holiday spirit this season on their 2014 Christmas tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Mannheim Steamroller is the alias of composer Chip Davis, who created the moniker from "Mannheim roller", a musical technique that was popular in Germany during the 1700s. Davis initially sought a record label to release his music, but the lack of interest led to the creation of his own label American Gramophone for his 1975 debut album Fresh Aire. He went on to release seven more albums in the Fresh Aire series, six of which were certified gold by the RIAA. His biggest success, however, came in 1984 with the release of Mannheim Steamroller Christmas, a massive hit and enduring classic of contemporary holiday music. Since then, his Christmas catalog has grown to include thirteen records, containing some of Steamroller's biggest hits and holding the distinction of being some of the most requested Christmas music of all time.  With more than 28 million albums sold in the US, Mannheim Steamroller will carry their musical enthusiasm with them throughout their 2014 shows.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"I loved the Christmas concert!! The music, the video, and the interaction with the audience is amazing! I would definitely go see them again!"

Great performance! Wonderful music performed by a great ensemble of musicians. Atmosphere of the Rialto Theater was a perfect match for starting of the Holiday season.

  • Great as always.

What would Christmas be without their music? The Rialto is far and away the very best venue to see them in. Saw them when they were there last but that was back in 2016. Wish they came to the Rialto every year. You never get tired of hearing Chip’s arrangements. Mannheim has changed the face of Christmas music forever and for the better.

  • Superb as always

I knew the show would be good. My brother saw it last year and raved, but it was above and beyond my expectations! Visually gorgeous and creative. Fun to watch. Expertly arranged. Just fantastic!!!! My only critique is that in the balcony seats you cannot see the entire film screen. The lights block the top quarter. Thanks for a wonderful start to the holiday season. Will be attending this show again. ❄️🎄🕊️

Amazing concert. All the players were great and looked liked they were really enjoying themselves. My favorite was the drummer, Tom Sharpe...so much energy and talent.

  • Best birthday celebration ever!

by Deborah on 11/17/24Rialto Square Theatre - JolietRating: 5 out of 5

Not the first time seeing them, but had the very first row, center stage to capture the entire magic of these artists. Their passion and visible joy gave me tears and goosebumps within seconds of hearing them play. I attended by myself on my 72 birthday. What incredible luck to have them come to my town on my special day. Happy birthday to me, indeed!

  • Number one Christmas show?

  • An excellent experience

I have been hearing Manheim Steamroller every holiday for as far back as I can remember. Learning that they originated less than 70 miles from my home town. It's been nearly 40 years, and I find them playing right here in my area. Had to get the chance to see them live. And they did not disappoint! The live show was better than I could have hoped. I'll probably see them again in the future, but I can at least cross this item off my bucket list.

  • Wonderful!

As always, M.S. puts on a spectacular performance. Their new music pieces are unique and the original Christmas arrangements helped to put me in the Christmas spirit! Always a thrill!

  • It was OK.

by Disappointed on 11/15/24Duke Energy Center for the Arts - Mahaffey Theater - St PetersburgRating: 2 out of 5

I remember Mannheim Steamroller having a lot more visual and cinematic “wow” factor. I took my husband for his birthday. However, the visuals behind (think 80s style videos being shown on a huge screen behind the musicians) seemed very outdated and were just.. weird. The music was OK. There was not a lot of excitement in the crowd. A lot of the people there we’re much older, which told me the music no longer reaches younger audiences. There were about two or three songs that I enjoyed. The other ones were stale, and even the young choir-style musicians on stage left seemed like they were bored with it. I would probably never go see Mannheim Steamroller again. Unless they made some major changes to make it more exciting and the music and props more updated. However, if you just wanna sit around and listen to someone behind you with dementia annoyingly sing-along to a Christmas song while trying to enjoy yourself, then go ahead.

  • Professional Performance... was not "steamrolled"

by DH on 11/15/24Duke Energy Center for the Arts - Mahaffey Theater - St PetersburgRating: 3 out of 5

The musicians were top-notch. However, no interaction with the audience. No glitz. No pizzazz. Could have closed my eyes and had the same experience listening to a CD.

  • Wonderful evening

We enjoyed Mannheim Steamroller very much. The sound and accompanying screen display was incredible. Would highly recommend. It got us in the Spirit of the Christmas Season.

  • Fabulous start to Christmas!

by Teri on 11/15/24Duke Energy Center for the Arts - Mahaffey Theater - St PetersburgRating: 5 out of 5

I attended the show with my family of adult children and my grandchildren. From the first note and the first light, we all were captured by the amazing music of favorite Christmas tunes. I loved watching my littles as they reacted to the orchestra and the light show. This experience has definately helped us welcome the Christmas Season. The sound is strong and has a heartbeat that you share with the instruments. We will be sure to attend the next time they return to our area. I highly recommend this experience to compliment your Holiday Season!

  • Mannheim fantastic

We had a wonderful time. Manheim really put my sister and I in the christmas spirit. The venue was great. Of course we had a few people around us that should have stayed home.

  • Great way to start the Christmas season!

by ML on 11/15/24Duke Energy Center for the Arts - Mahaffey Theater - St PetersburgRating: 5 out of 5

Loved the concert. They play non-stop both their first half and after short break. Music is wonderful. The pictures they display as their backdrop are inspiring. It was a great evening and well worth the price of the ticket. Festive. Amazing that they have been doing this for 40 years! Will be looking for them next year! Highly recommend if you like the Christmas season and want to start it out with festivities.
