MANNHEIM STEAMROLLER: CHRISTMAS IN CONCERT:

Mannheim Steamroller have been innovators of the neo-classical genre for over 40 years, blending the finest orchestral sections with electronic elements and a hint of rock to arrive at their remarkably unique sound. Not only are their live performances sonically robust, but they're visually stimulating as well, featuring an incredible light show and illustrations that dance across giant projection screens. Whether they're playing originals like "Catching Snowflakes on Your Tongue" or classics like "Joy to the World," Mannheim Steamroller will have fans in the holiday spirit this season on their 2014 Christmas tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Mannheim Steamroller is the alias of composer Chip Davis, who created the moniker from "Mannheim roller", a musical technique that was popular in Germany during the 1700s. Davis initially sought a record label to release his music, but the lack of interest led to the creation of his own label American Gramophone for his 1975 debut album Fresh Aire. He went on to release seven more albums in the Fresh Aire series, six of which were certified gold by the RIAA. His biggest success, however, came in 1984 with the release of Mannheim Steamroller Christmas, a massive hit and enduring classic of contemporary holiday music. Since then, his Christmas catalog has grown to include thirteen records, containing some of Steamroller's biggest hits and holding the distinction of being some of the most requested Christmas music of all time.  With more than 28 million albums sold in the US, Mannheim Steamroller will carry their musical enthusiasm with them throughout their 2014 shows.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"The band delivered from start to finish. What a wonderful way to get in the holiday spirit! Their musicianship is top notch and their performance is very entertaining."

"Great concert with remarkable renditions of Christmas music. They are a very professional ensemble that made the event enjoyable and memorable."

"I loved the Christmas concert!! The music, the video, and the interaction with the audience is amazing! I would definitely go see them again!"

  • Awesome show!

by Jan on 11/25/24DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

We went to see Mannheim Steamroller again this year. I could go every day and never get tired of their performance. Beautiful music and great light show. If you get the chance to see them, DO IT!! You will be glad you did! It's an experience you'll never forget!

  • Needs to be updated

by Matt on 11/25/24DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 1 out of 5

Video program was from 1984 per the very visible copyright on the video. Grainy film , clumsy “special effects” within the videos. Music was as expected, no added benefit to seeing it “live”; I suspect some parts are needed by synced or augmented with pre-recorded performances. Save your money and buy the CD if you must, only benefit of attending is being able to say I’ve been there md done that

  • Fantastic Holiday Concert

by Joe on 11/25/24Ilani Cowlitz Ballroom - RidgefieldRating: 5 out of 5

Trans Siberian Orchestra concert is just fantastic! This is a great way to kick off the holiday season! The singers are great, the musicians are great, and the lights and special effects are great as well! If you’ve never been, then you should go!

  • Disappointed

by Garyincary on 11/25/24DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 2 out of 5

I had seen Manheim Steamroller before, and absolutely loved their performance. However, I was disappointed in them this time. Except for the introduction of the musicians at the beginning, there was absolutely no interaction with the audience. There was a "sameness"to the songs. When I saw them the first time, I left feeling very inspired. When I left this time, I left feeling that I was glad it was over.

  • Disappointed

by Bill on 11/25/24DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 1 out of 5

My wife loved it and I didn't. I didn't care for the music and the background that went along with the music. The show was supposed to be a Christmas show.

  • Excellent Concert

by Karen on 11/25/24DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

Great arrangements of Christmas classics and a very professional show. The performers seemed to enjoy themselves and had great stage presence. The sound was also fabulous.

  • Loved Every Minute of the Performance

by PatH on 11/25/24DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

Best ever! I have always wanted to attend one of their concerts. I have all of the CD’s and listen to this music every holiday season.

  • A perfect evening!

by MusicFan on 11/25/24Rialto Square Theatre - JolietRating: 5 out of 5

It had been several years since we attended a Mannheim Steamroller concert. Can't imagine why we waited so long. The group was amazing and reinforced that their music is timeless. The Rialto theatre was a perfect venue for the event. Everything about the evening was perfect!

  • Awesome!

Best concert ever! Loved the music as well as synchronized light show with it. Well worth the cost!

  • Very nice Music but weird videos

by Andrea on 11/25/24Ilani Cowlitz Ballroom - RidgefieldRating: 3 out of 5

The videos need updating. Felt like I was watching something stoned. from the early 1980s. Music was great!

  • Loved the show!

by gpl on 11/25/24DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

Every Christmas my husband and I listen to Mannheim Steamroller throughout the season. This was a surprise birthday gift for his birthday and a special date night and it was wonderful. The light show was beautiful and it just seemed to go way too fast. I highly recommend it. The show was a great way to start our Christmas season.

  • Great Show!

What a great way to kick off the 2025 holiday season. Thoroughly enjoyed and Roxanne is quite the performer!

  • Great musicianship, poor sound

by Nd gal on 11/24/24Alerus Center - Grand ForksRating: 4 out of 5

Only complaint, i wished i heard it better. I had even wondered in the beginning if the mains were on, thinking we were just hearing monitors. The musicians were amazing but i feel they heard way more than we did, i guess i had expected that concert feel. I couldnt feel it.

  • less than desireable

by not happy on 11/23/24Columbia County Performing Arts Center - EvansRating: 4 out of 5

The guy in the row in front of me was recording the show on his phone. so I had the distraction of the small screen version of the performance from his phone, The ushers should have stopped him. Oh, there were no ushers in this part of the theater.

  • Greatest show on earth.

by Scortch on 11/23/24Columbia County Performing Arts Center - EvansRating: 5 out of 5

Mere words cannot describe the experience. They’ve only gotten better over the last forty years.

  • I thought it was a Christmas concert but it wasn't

by Jgp500 on 11/23/24Columbia County Performing Arts Center - EvansRating: 3 out of 5

Love their music and the team was very talented. Love the light show part of the program. Did not care for the strange movies and scenes on the screen during most of the music. The items on the screens were old tired and grainy. The Christmas music that was played at the end did not have any coordinating Christmas scenes on the screen, It was very generic, plain and not Christmas. The place card screen at the beginning when you walked in was exactly what i was expecting and the first music and light show was great. It quickly went down hill, I did not leave feeling like I just had the start to my holiday season, Though disappointed with the strange screen presentations, I do want to be sure to restate how good the talent was.

  • Super disappointed - not Christmasy!

by David on 11/23/24Rating: 1 out of 5

Show was BIZARRE, to say the least. The videos they showed were just a distraction that did not add to the performance in any way - dolphins swimming in the ocean is Christmasy how??? ODD photos of Chip's children, it felt like a memorial service of some sort. Not many Christmas songs. The light show blasted us in the eyes so much we had to cover them a LOT. So poorly done. Will never go to another show. Thought about leaving early, but didn't want to waste our money. Beware!

  • Disappointing

by JML on 11/23/24Columbia County Performing Arts Center - EvansRating: 3 out of 5

We were looking forward to this concert to get the Christmas season started but there was not much actual Christmas music. I was not familiar with the style of Mannheim Steamroller and we found it was not our taste in music.

  • Amazing Concert at Wonderful Venue

by Clark on 11/22/24North Charleston Performing Arts Center - North CharlestonRating: 5 out of 5

We love Manheim Steamroller and this year did not disappoint. The concert was amazing and the North Charleston venue was wonderful. We stayed at the Springhill Suites hotel and walked to the venue; it only took about 5 minutes.

  • Great time

by Brian T on 11/22/24North Charleston Performing Arts Center - North CharlestonRating: 5 out of 5

Music was fantastic. Would recommend going. Experienced a multitude of different emotions as the group put their personal touch on each piece of music. Worth the price of admission.
