MANNHEIM STEAMROLLER: CHRISTMAS IN CONCERT:

Mannheim Steamroller have been innovators of the neo-classical genre for over 40 years, blending the finest orchestral sections with electronic elements and a hint of rock to arrive at their remarkably unique sound. Not only are their live performances sonically robust, but they're visually stimulating as well, featuring an incredible light show and illustrations that dance across giant projection screens. Whether they're playing originals like "Catching Snowflakes on Your Tongue" or classics like "Joy to the World," Mannheim Steamroller will have fans in the holiday spirit this season on their 2014 Christmas tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Mannheim Steamroller is the alias of composer Chip Davis, who created the moniker from "Mannheim roller", a musical technique that was popular in Germany during the 1700s. Davis initially sought a record label to release his music, but the lack of interest led to the creation of his own label American Gramophone for his 1975 debut album Fresh Aire. He went on to release seven more albums in the Fresh Aire series, six of which were certified gold by the RIAA. His biggest success, however, came in 1984 with the release of Mannheim Steamroller Christmas, a massive hit and enduring classic of contemporary holiday music. Since then, his Christmas catalog has grown to include thirteen records, containing some of Steamroller's biggest hits and holding the distinction of being some of the most requested Christmas music of all time.  With more than 28 million albums sold in the US, Mannheim Steamroller will carry their musical enthusiasm with them throughout their 2014 shows.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"The band delivered from start to finish. What a wonderful way to get in the holiday spirit! Their musicianship is top notch and their performance is very entertaining."

"Great concert with remarkable renditions of Christmas music. They are a very professional ensemble that made the event enjoyable and memorable."

"I loved the Christmas concert!! The music, the video, and the interaction with the audience is amazing! I would definitely go see them again!"

  • Very disappointed

by EngKen on 11/26/24Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts - GreensboroRating: 2 out of 5

I have listened to their music for years and it was terrible live. The videos were also terrible. I was so very disappointed. I won’t be going to see them ever again. It was a waste of $180.00.

  • fun and relaxed enviroment

This was a very pleasant orchestra to see in person. The atmosphere was awesome.

A wonderful mix of the traditional Christmas classics with a "new age"twist.adyetful musicians.

  • Great concert, lousy venue

by Jerry on 11/26/24Ilani Cowlitz Ballroom - RidgefieldRating: 4 out of 5

The seating chart for the tickets implied that it was an auditorium, not a ballroom I, therefore, chose tickets which I assumed were in a balcony I was very disappointed that we were seated on a flat floor approximately halfway back in the room The concert, however, was most enjoyable The dynamic pricing of the tickets took me aback, and I will never order through Ticketmaster again.

  • Excellent show

Such a great performance. Hope to see them return. Loved the upbeat style and especially the violin and flute pieces.

  • Okay, not Great

by RJ on 11/26/24DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 2 out of 5

Experience was okay, not great. Not much interaction with the audience except for introductions at the beginning and a thank you at the end. Other than that they just played their songs. The video slide show seemed very outdated and the light show was mediocre. I have many Mannheim CDs but this was my first live performance. Likely is also my last. Went to Derek Hough’s Dance for the Holidays a few days later and the difference was considerable as he interacted with the crowd throughout the show.

  • Great concert.

Just an excellent performance. Wonderful performance and good acoustics.

  • Not as good as expected

by PBH on 11/26/24Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts - GreensboroRating: 4 out of 5

Sound mixing off. Harsh at times. Musicians placed too far back causing the video screen to be so high that lights obscured the top portion.

  • Mannheim

I thought the show was great, very exciting and fast paced. I would definitely see it again! Musicians were very talented and multi functional on the instruments! 🎹👏🏼👏🏼

  • great music/ graphics could have been better

by Jo on 11/26/24Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts - GreensboroRating: 4 out of 5

The music was fantastic...I've been listening to Mannheim Steamroller since the late 80s and love their sound. The lights were great and fit well with the music. The films that ran behind seemed very dated and really did not add to the experience at all. I think it would have been better with none at all or something a little more updated. venue was comfortable and easy to get in and out of and the sound level was perfect.

  • Expected better

by Sandi on 11/26/24Ilani Cowlitz Ballroom - RidgefieldRating: 3 out of 5

The show was fine, however the seating was not the best. The rows were very crowded, we had to walk sideways to get to our seats 6,7,and 8. Seats were small and for the average person, most were touching at the hip and shoulder. I would think twice before paying that kind of money to be that crowded for two hours. Not really worth it. At intermission 3 people in our row left and did not come back . They were not together

  • Good concert, seating was awful

    by Mauryp48 on 11/25/24Ilani Cowlitz Ballroom - RidgefieldRating: 3 out of 5

This venue was in the casino ballroom with individual chairs like one would have at a lecture. we were 'cheek to jowl' packed in and at intermission my wife's back hurt enough she wanted to leave. We stayed through to the last song, but both agree we are not returning to this venue for any other concerts.

  • Wonderful concert with Mannheim Steamroller

  • Girls Night Out

by Wally on 11/25/24Ilani Cowlitz Ballroom - RidgefieldRating: 5 out of 5

The venue surprised us-but happily so-the room was packed and the music was festive! Our trip was fun!

  • Just nice wholesome Christmas music with a twist

by Jeff on 11/25/24Ilani Cowlitz Ballroom - RidgefieldRating: 5 out of 5

I really liked the show. Musicians are very talented and engaging with the audience. It was nice to have the intermission between the two 55 minute sessions.

  • Outdated and overpriced

by Agibson on 11/25/24DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 1 out of 5

Show hasn't changed in 30 years. Same songs, same videos. DPAC theatre sucks in comparison to DCPA in Denver CO and since you all use Ticketmaster tickets are far more expensive than they need to be.
