MANNHEIM STEAMROLLER: CHRISTMAS IN CONCERT:

Mannheim Steamroller have been innovators of the neo-classical genre for over 40 years, blending the finest orchestral sections with electronic elements and a hint of rock to arrive at their remarkably unique sound. Not only are their live performances sonically robust, but they're visually stimulating as well, featuring an incredible light show and illustrations that dance across giant projection screens. Whether they're playing originals like "Catching Snowflakes on Your Tongue" or classics like "Joy to the World," Mannheim Steamroller will have fans in the holiday spirit this season on their 2014 Christmas tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Mannheim Steamroller is the alias of composer Chip Davis, who created the moniker from "Mannheim roller", a musical technique that was popular in Germany during the 1700s. Davis initially sought a record label to release his music, but the lack of interest led to the creation of his own label American Gramophone for his 1975 debut album Fresh Aire. He went on to release seven more albums in the Fresh Aire series, six of which were certified gold by the RIAA. His biggest success, however, came in 1984 with the release of Mannheim Steamroller Christmas, a massive hit and enduring classic of contemporary holiday music. Since then, his Christmas catalog has grown to include thirteen records, containing some of Steamroller's biggest hits and holding the distinction of being some of the most requested Christmas music of all time.  With more than 28 million albums sold in the US, Mannheim Steamroller will carry their musical enthusiasm with them throughout their 2014 shows.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"The band delivered from start to finish. What a wonderful way to get in the holiday spirit! Their musicianship is top notch and their performance is very entertaining."

"Great concert with remarkable renditions of Christmas music. They are a very professional ensemble that made the event enjoyable and memorable."

"I loved the Christmas concert!! The music, the video, and the interaction with the audience is amazing! I would definitely go see them again!"

  • Great Performance

by Nicelp3 on 12/4/24The Santander Performing Arts Center - ReadingRating: 5 out of 5

The Mannheim Steamroller teams do a great job of recreating Chip’s music in concert settings. This year’s performance in Reading, PA was wonderful. Listening to a cd or streaming is good, but watching living breathing persons putting their hearts into expressing this unique music is exhilarating! Don’t miss your chance to experience their magic.

  • Did not disappoint!

by Samegks on 12/4/24San Jose Center for the Performing Arts - San JoseRating: 5 out of 5

Theater was pretty well packed but from center of balcony we could still hear every note. This is my 4th Mannheim Steamroller concert since mid 90's and it's only gotten better. This facility is great.

  • BAPAC balcony is bad seating

by DB on 12/2/24Fred Kavli Theatre- B of A Performing Arts Center,Thousand Oaks - Thousand OaksRating: 3 out of 5

I believe the band was very good but my seats were so awful, I could not fully enjoy the show. Usually those large theaters have all seats with at least decent sound and all should be able to see the video. Not the BAPAC in Thousand Oaks balcony. I bought the seats I could afford but I was squashed in between 2 large people, the sound was not even loud enough, and video cut off at the top. Very disappointing.

  • Mannheim Steamroller @ Thousand Oaks, CA

by Doxie on 12/2/24Fred Kavli Theatre- B of A Performing Arts Center,Thousand Oaks - Thousand OaksRating: 5 out of 5

The Fred Kavli Theater is a 1500 to 2000 seat venue. Situated close to the 101 Freeway, access was great. Parking was easy being right next door, so the walk to the main entrance was about 300 feet and level. The venue seats 1800 people and didn't find a bad seat in the theater. Great acoustics, Will go back.

  • Amazing event

The show was amazing, the lights, the music everything was amazing, just would have been nice for better seating, instead of being cramped into the chairs like sardines

Loved Mannheim Steamroller! I've listened to their music for years and it was an awesome experience attending their Christmas show live. If you enjoy listening to their music on the radio, imagine what they were like live. Would definitely love to make this a new holiday tradition if they visit San Jose/Bay Area again. :-)

  • Fantastic show, very entertaining!

by Phyllis & Joe on 12/1/24Fred Kavli Theatre- B of A Performing Arts Center,Thousand Oaks - Thousand OaksRating: 5 out of 5

Because Mannheim Steamroller is a huge group and their venue was much smaller than the first time we saw them at the Verizon Center in DC, I wasn’t sure what to expect. Was i surprised! They have smaller groups of the same show who can play at smaller venues! That took nothing away from their sound or performance! It was spectacular!!!

  • loved it

Amazing and so much fun! I loved it! Heard many favorites and enjoyed watching the musicians playing their instruments and creating some amazing sounds. Came home and filled my cd player with all Mannheim cds and can enjoy them over and over. Was great seeing them in person!

Have been enjoying their music for years. The last time I saw their Christmas show… it was all holiday music. I kinda wish the entire show was Christmas… but enjoyed the evening. Great way to start off the holiday season.

  • Formula Show Lacks Feeling

by AnnEPLV on 11/30/24Fred Kavli Theatre- B of A Performing Arts Center,Thousand Oaks - Thousand OaksRating: 2 out of 5

This show is basically the same formula that's been tossed out there for years. The musicians are basically good, but not great. The "pit"orchestra were treated as Less Than, when in actuality they were probably better musicians. The background video visuals were hopelessly and laughably outdated and sub par quality. The audio mix was shrill and overly bright. The percussionist / wind player was constantly fussing with her hair and in-ear monitor to the point of utter distraction. The show has the potential of being so greater than it was.

  • Great concert

by Joe on 11/30/24Fred Kavli Theatre- B of A Performing Arts Center,Thousand Oaks - Thousand OaksRating: 4 out of 5

Mannheim Steamroller was amazing. However Fred Kavill theater doesn’t allow filming had I known prior I wouldn’t have gone. I would have picked another venue that allows filming. They should inform people of this prior to purchasing your ticket.

  • Awesome experience in the holiday spirit!

by Robocop on 11/30/24San Jose Center for the Performing Arts - San JoseRating: 4 out of 5

Multimedia production with amazing musicians, deftly coordinated sound, lighting, videos, dry ice, "snowflakes"coming down, electric & synthesized instruments well orchestrated, etc. Have always loved the Mannheim Steamroller Christmas music, and seeing/hearing them in concert made for an uplifting experience! Two small criticisms: the concert came across at times with a bit too much of a commercialized, slick production. Secondly, the people sitting right behind us talked through a lot of the concert and one was humming loudly through some of the Christmas classics. Just bad luck on where we sat! That being said, loved the concert anyway and SO glad we attended. A side note: The lead violinist had the most perfect form I've ever seen, in addition to his amazing performance.

  • great show

The concert was great and the help at the theater was also very good.

  • Disappointing

by Rusty on 11/29/24San Jose Center for the Performing Arts - San JoseRating: 2 out of 5

I went to a Manheim Steamroller concert several years ago 8n San Francisco. The show was fun, upbeat, and had lots of energy. The show we saw this year was sad by comparison. The old energy level wasn't there, and it seemed more like a eulogy for Chip Davis than a Christmas Concert. Very sad.
