MANNHEIM STEAMROLLER: CHRISTMAS IN CONCERT:

Mannheim Steamroller have been innovators of the neo-classical genre for over 40 years, blending the finest orchestral sections with electronic elements and a hint of rock to arrive at their remarkably unique sound. Not only are their live performances sonically robust, but they're visually stimulating as well, featuring an incredible light show and illustrations that dance across giant projection screens. Whether they're playing originals like "Catching Snowflakes on Your Tongue" or classics like "Joy to the World," Mannheim Steamroller will have fans in the holiday spirit this season on their 2014 Christmas tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Mannheim Steamroller is the alias of composer Chip Davis, who created the moniker from "Mannheim roller", a musical technique that was popular in Germany during the 1700s. Davis initially sought a record label to release his music, but the lack of interest led to the creation of his own label American Gramophone for his 1975 debut album Fresh Aire. He went on to release seven more albums in the Fresh Aire series, six of which were certified gold by the RIAA. His biggest success, however, came in 1984 with the release of Mannheim Steamroller Christmas, a massive hit and enduring classic of contemporary holiday music. Since then, his Christmas catalog has grown to include thirteen records, containing some of Steamroller's biggest hits and holding the distinction of being some of the most requested Christmas music of all time.  With more than 28 million albums sold in the US, Mannheim Steamroller will carry their musical enthusiasm with them throughout their 2014 shows.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"The band delivered from start to finish. What a wonderful way to get in the holiday spirit! Their musicianship is top notch and their performance is very entertaining."

"Great concert with remarkable renditions of Christmas music. They are a very professional ensemble that made the event enjoyable and memorable."

"I loved the Christmas concert!! The music, the video, and the interaction with the audience is amazing! I would definitely go see them again!"

  • A wonderful experience!

by Grandpa on 12/18/24Mountain America Center - Idaho FallsRating: 5 out of 5

My wife and I are grandparents with few computer skills. We had to use our Apple wallet for the first time. With a little help from the kind lady at the entrance we were able to get into the concert. Judging from the hair color of the audience I would guess we weren’t the only ones challenged by technology. It was a wonderful and well executed event. The music was over the top. A great experience!

  • Awesome concert

by Ross on 12/18/24Clowes Memorial Hall - IndianapolisRating: 5 out of 5

Music and video displays behind stage were awesome. What made the sound great was the acoustics at Clowes Hall. I would never attend a concert at a fieldhouse.

  • Expected more

by Sam on 12/18/24Coronado Theatre - RockfordRating: 3 out of 5

The show seemed”tired”. I feel they depended on the lights to be the entertainment. Maybe it was 10 years ago.

  • We loved every minute of the concert

by swimmer on 12/17/24Coronado Theatre - RockfordRating: 5 out of 5

Our seats were towards the back but could see the screen well and hear every note of the music

  • Fantastic Show

    by Alicat3671 on 12/17/24Coronado Theatre - RockfordRating: 5 out of 5

The Coronado is extremely well suited for hosting an event like Mannheim Steamroller Christmas. Acoustics are exemplary.

  • Horrible lighting

by Music was good at best on 12/17/24Coronado Theatre - RockfordRating: 2 out of 5

The music was just ok. The lighting was absolutely horrible!! Blinding lights straight into the crowd. No one could see the stage.

  • Worth every penny

by Awesome!! on 12/17/24Coronado Theatre - RockfordRating: 5 out of 5

They were awesome! The music, technology, electric instruments, acoustic instruments together create a cacophony of sound that reaches deep inside. I had goose bumps and want to go again!

  • great show

by little on 12/17/24Coronado Theatre - RockfordRating: 5 out of 5

Great show, great venue....mu only complaint is handicapped seating. Our handicapped seats were not in a handicapped seating row, even though it showed as such on. the Ticketmaster seating chart. We were moved 3 times before we were in our final spot. There might have been an even bigger problem if the people who bought the seats next to ours showed up..fwe would not have fit in the space.

  • Absolutely awesome!

The best performance i have ever seen and this make 5 times.

  • Just ok

by Ron on 12/17/24Coronado Theatre - RockfordRating: 3 out of 5

We have seen Mannheim Steamroller 3 years in a row. The first was amazing. Great high energy show. The second was not as amazing and this last one although still a good show didn’t compare to either of the last two. They seem to be going in the wrong direction. This show lacked the energy we saw the first time we saw them and even in the second time. A lot of people will disagree with this but in comparison we found this show kind of boring.

  • Mannheim Steamroller Christmas 2024, Fox Theater, Detroit

by Jack on 12/16/24Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

When you go to the Mannheim Steamroller Christmas show, you know what to expect, they did not disappoint! Enthusiastic crowd, spectacular venue, great sound system. Can't wait til next year!

  • Fantastic as Always

by Dan M. on 12/16/24Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

I've seen them every year but 1 since 2003. The Fox is one of the nicest venues around and Manheim's music just makes it a wonderful Christmas experience. I couldn't highly recommend this show! The only drawback this year is they didn't play Greensleaves which is one of my favorites from them. Other than that, it was awesome as usual!

  • Tired show

by Mike on 12/16/24Fox Theatre Detroit - DetroitRating: 3 out of 5

This marked my third event and, while the music is good, the overall experience seemed tired. The Fox Theater is an amazing venue, but I simply couldn’t get excited about the performance.

  • First time - WOW

by AlexCheryl on 12/11/24The Theater at MGM National Harbor - National HarborRating: 5 out of 5

This was our first time seeing Mannheim Steamroller and we absolutely loved the show. The venue was great and they sounded sensational. We are already planning to see them again next year.

  • Fun Celebration of Christmas!

by rynoelway on 12/10/24The Theater at MGM National Harbor - National HarborRating: 5 out of 5

Lots of favorites plus a few I hadn't heard. Nice visuals. They even handed out a nice program to follow along with the setlist.

  • Another excellent concert

by Tim W. on 12/10/24The Theater at MGM National Harbor - National HarborRating: 5 out of 5

We, like many others, have been following Chip Davis (RIP) & Mannheim Steamroller since the 1980's. What a creation of music over the years. This Christmas concert like the others really puts you in a festive mood. Excellent renditions of their Christmas songs are the best. No other concert comes close. If you've never seen them in concert, highly recommend it. Only negative was the light show during some of the songs. They move the spotlights up, down & all around. Which makes the spotlights go into audience. They are blinding and quite annoying. Others around us were also complaining. So if the band and crew read these, which I hope they do, please consider not shining into the audience.

  • Fantastic Mannheim Steamroller

by May on 12/10/24The Theater at MGM National Harbor - National HarborRating: 5 out of 5

This concert was absolutely great. I love the way they show videos behind the orchestra as they’re playing.

  • Needs an update

by Sue on 12/10/24The Theater at MGM National Harbor - National HarborRating: 2 out of 5

The music could have been enjoyed in The comfort of my own home. The video portion was so dated. We would have left after the first song but… We and MANY others departed at intermission. I bet it was obvious so maybe they’ll take the hint. They need to update the “show”. Not worth the trouble of going to MGM.
