About Made in America Festival
There's only one Jay-Z, the self-made billionaire who channeled an impoverished life of crime into a prolific hip-hop career — and ultimately one of the most impressive and improbable personal fortunes in the entire world. There's also only one Made in America Festival, the annual genre-spanning musical extravaganza curated by Jay-Z himself and produced by Live Nation.
Jay founded Made in America in 2012, and it's taken over Philadelphia's Benjamin Franklin Parkway every year since (with a concurrent appearance in Los Angeles in 2014). His purpose, as Jay explained in Ron Howard's 2013 documentary about the festival, is to unite the people of America under the banner of our shared musical culture. "It's a bigger idea than just a concert," Jay said. "We all have the same struggles, the same dreams."
When it comes to scoring the talent for each year's festival, it helps that Jay-Z has perhaps the deepest Rolodex in all of pop culture. He and his wife Beyonce have both performed in past years, of course, as have blockbuster artists like The National, Pearl Jam, Rihanna, Run-DMC, Bassnectar, Kanye West, and Coldplay.
Made in America 2018 featured the fest's most robust incarnation yet, spanning two days in Philadelphia and headlined by Nicki Minaj, Post Malone, Kendrick Lamar, Janelle Monae, and Miguel. With that kind of star power serving as the festival standard, 2019 promises another world-class lineup, returning to Ben Franklin Parkway August 31 and September 1.
The 2019 festival again will host Cause Village, a public area where 50-plus charitable organizations come together as a hub for social action. The festival also will have the midway rides and games, art installations, and mega-budget stage and light production that make Made in America the most unique and spectacular festival experience in the country.
Packed of course, it rained but the main people I wanted to see were amazing and still performed in the rain. And was amazing
Don't second guess yourself about buying these tickets! The festival has a great atmosphere with 4 different stages for performances. One thing I will say is plan accordingly if you want to see your favorite artists up close. Some artists are more popular then others so you will have to find a spot early and camp out. Also be aware you will be on your feet a long time so wear comfortable sneakers.
This was my fourth time and it is always a great time, the musical acts and vibes were amazing, and despite the rain, my whole entire group had a memorable time and we are all looking forward to the show next year.
As someone who has gone to this event every year I would consider myself a pretty good source of information. I love music in general and seeing it live and in a festival atmosphere makes it even better. Made in America has done well keeping my interest and providing a fun Labor Day weekend. However, they still have some room for improvement. For starters, I know that I'm getting older but the average age of the festival goers seems to be getting younger and younger each year. There are way too many kids attending who have no idea how to handle themselves and they kind of put a damper on the experience. Unless you enjoy hanging out with drunk high schoolers then you might want to reconsider attending. If they did something to make the event 18+ or even 16+ then I feel like it would definitely help things. Unfortunately, the lineups for the past several years tend to be saturated with the up and coming "rappers" and other artists who the younger generation is super hyped up about all over social media. Which leads to a situation where a watered down lineup will make more money with the younger kids buying tickets but it'll also take away from the experience for someone with a college degree. All that being said I'm still a sucker for a good time and it's kind of a tradition now so I'm sure I'll be there again next year with my care.com resume for all of the kids to give to their parents while we watch Beyoncé headline for a third time.
Show was amazing! Rain made the venue a little muddy and bathrooms are dirty but that's too be expected at an outdoor festival I would go again and again
Perfect way to end the summer. Lineup was incredible!!!
Best weekend of my life , if you never experienced Made in America please do at least once in your life:)
Fun time however, MIA needs to do a better job of having more hydration stations and making sure they're better located. Having one far from all the stages doesn't help anyone. You gotta make sure the fans have an opportunity to keep themselves well hydrated with convenience.
It was so nice to attend an event where there was no fighting and we all came together as one and enjoyed the day!!
I thought the Made in America performances themselves were excellent. However, the food and bathroom layout was poorly executed. It seemed like there was not even space to move specifically on Saturday.
A great time as always. Even though it poured the first day and was muddy for the second, it didn’t stop the fun
MIA was one of the best experiences I've had! For my 1st music festival, I'm glad I chose this one! I would go back again, the only thing I didn't like was there was no re entry. Being there from 1pm-midnight was rough but overall I had an amazing time.
3rd years going. Awesome venue and setup. Great lineup 10/10
Best way to end the summer! Beyond Amazing!!!!!!!!
The performances themselves were amazing... HOWEVER my girlfriend and i took advantage of the option to register our credit card to our wristbands so that there would be no need to carry cash. The entire weekend the wristbands DID NOT WORK! We both tried to make purchases from several different vendors and it was a no go. The vendors all said that they had beg having issues with people making purchases all day, probably due to bad reception. We left all our cash in our vehicle but of course there was no reentry so leaving to get it was not an option. THIS WAS A HUGE INCONVENIENCE! Never again
MIA was hyped up more than I thought it would be. It just wasn't my kind of festival. A lot of young students and was messy and crowded. I did not feel like it was worth $180
MIA was fun, but the rain and the mud created a muddy mess. It was so cold that I couldn't feel my fingers at times. The performers were great otherwise. J. Cole was my fave. If you are a young adult be aware, this is a teeny bopper festival. Tons of young girls in little shorts and tanks. The audience was young, white middle America. You know, suburban white kids that love hip hop and know all the lyrics.
Artist lineup on point...It was great as usual! My friends and I will continue to make this an annual trip of ours!
This was an incredible experience! I enjoyed myself! The artist put on a great show!!! Fireworks, laser lights, smoke machines etc.. I was soo impressed! Not even the annoying rain stopped the show lol. 2 things could have been better. The porter potties needed service & tissue. The food lines were very unorganized & slow so it would take about an hour to get a bite to eat in between Artist. Other than that it was a small music world for all types of music lovers. Jay-Z did his thing on Day 2!!!!!
Solange and J. Cole were definitely worth standing out in the pouring rain for! The ground was gross and muddy, but what can you do?! Lol. Lots and lots of people. Even more garbage. But, I had a great time and plan on going next year.
