About

The hip hop self-starters Macklemore & Ryan have gone far in a short time: they brought thrift stores to the masses with breakout No. 1 single “Thrift Shop,” released their debut album Heist to a No. 2 spot on the Billboard 200, and came out in support of same-sex marriage with gay rights anthem “Same Love.” Combining Macklemore’s thoughtful, funny verses and Lewis’ expertly crafted productions, their unique take on hip hop has struck a major chord with audiences, but what ultimately makes the duo a success has been their ability to write some of the year’s catchiest hooks. As a performer, Macklemore radiates positive energy and delivers his rapid-fire lyrics with crystal clear precision – Lewis takes a supporting role, cueing the beats, hyping the crowd, and engaging in the occasional crowd surf. The pair are on tour in 2013 in support of their debut album, and tickets are in high demand thanks to their reputation for dynamic, must-see live shows.

The Seattle-based duo first joined forces in 2006 when Lewis became Macklemore’s promo photographer, but the focus quickly shifted to music with the release of The VS. series, which included The VS. EP in 2009 and The VS. Redux in 2010. Their 2013 debut The Heist took three years to write and record, and it shows – from the extensive list of collaborators to the appearance of the Seattle Rock Orchestra, the record oozes originality and craftsmanship. In addition to producing, recording, and mixing all of their recordings, Lewis also directs their music videos, including the video for No. 1 single “Can’t Hold Us,” an epic seven-minute-long mini-film that earned them an MTV Video Music Award for Best Hip-Hop Video. As for the music’s point of view, Macklemore isn’t afraid to challenge the status quo of his chosen genre – from questioning the materialism of hip hop culture in “Thrift Shop” to lamenting homophobia among rappers in “Same Love,” these are songs that embrace diversity and endorse keeping an open mind.

by myopinion1234 on 10/29/13Maverik Center - West Valley CityRating: 5 out of 5

What a great party! Macklemore and Ryan Lewis brought it. They are fun, talented, humble and it was a really great show...one of my all time faves! Why were so few people there? It should have been sold out PLUS!

  • Macklemore & Ryan Lewis were amazing!

by Viking63 on 10/29/13Maverik Center - West Valley CityRating: 4 out of 5

The venue was great and the main event was great once they came out. It's been awhile since I've been to a concert but is a 2 hour wait for the headliner normal? The concert started at 7:30 pm and the 2 warm-up bands were ok but then we waited until 9:30 pm for Macklemore & Ryan Lewis to come on stage. They put on a GREAT show! I love his honesty and connection to the audience. The music and stage presence are amazing along with the dazzle of the show. I'd see them again but would arrive much later next time.

  • One of the best!

by Chznrice on 10/29/13Maverik Center - West Valley CityRating: 4 out of 5

Awesome show!! Macklemore and Ryan Lewis were awesome, very personal and connected with the audience. The show itself seemed to take more than 30 minutes to start, which seems like it should have been faster but that was my only issue with the show. Other then that it was awesome!

  • Most amazing concert of my life.

This concert was absolutely amazing all three acts had incredible energy from Big KRIT to Talib Kweli to Macklemore and Ryan Lewis they all blew me away. Definitely go see them if you get the chance.

  • The Greatest Night of Our Lives

by BluejayV on 10/29/13Maverik Center - West Valley CityRating: 5 out of 5

This review is really simple. Macklemore and Ryan Lewis? The greatest concert event in the history of ever. I bawled. I learned. I grew as a person. And I got to see my hero live. Tone there when a stadium full of people sing "Same Love" is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen. It's a night I'll never forget. That's all there is to it. You will NOT regret going to see them in concert. I guarantee it.

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis were and still are amazing! The event was perfectly balanced with an awesome party vibe and strong life messages. I felt like I was at a party, but after I left, I had a new direction in life in regards of the messages that Macklemore shared with the crowd. Haters are haters, but if you are one, you would still respect the event and Macklemore's stance on human equality.

  • Simply Amazing.

One of the best things I have ever done on a Saturday night. You won't regret it.

  • Macklemore was amazing

by absmiles on 10/29/13Maverik Center - West Valley CityRating: 5 out of 5

I really liked that Macklemore spent the time to explain what his art means to him and what each of his songs meant to him. His show was fun and upbeat. Never lacked a good laugh and an honest sight into his life.

  • Opening acts nots so good

by Lolobabe on 10/29/13Maverik Center - West Valley CityRating: 2 out of 5

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis were great. Their opening acts were horrible. Not only were they hard to hear clearly, they were completely foul and crude. I wish I showed up two hours late and just heard Macklemore, he had a good message, the opening acts did not.

  • Macklemore was the best mane!

by YoungKTurn on 10/29/13Maverik Center - West Valley CityRating: 5 out of 5

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis are always an unforgettable duo. The openers always hype you up and get you ready to go berserk all night. I personally enjoyed Big Krit and Talib Kweli was a lyrical genius. Macklemore is such an inspiring artist and also a great actor and storyteller. He has many characters that he plays to go along with his songs which gives the song more meaning. His stories are unforgettable and will make you laugh your ass off! Bottom line he is one of the best performers out there and I would recommend him to anyone interested in Hip-Hop music.

The macklemore side of the concert was the best I have ever attended!! Complete performer and really fun. His two warm up acts though were the worst 2 performers in every way!!! Next time get a descent warm up act and this would be the best possible event!!

  • Macklemore will leave you speechless!!

by sdubb824 on 10/29/13Maverik Center - West Valley CityRating: 5 out of 5

Macklemore was an amazing preformer. He kept the crowd jump the whole time. He did two encore songs and kept everyone wanting more. They openers were good. The first one, Big KRIT, was really very good but the second one left me bored. But macklemore was killer.

by Alivewithyou2013 on 10/29/13Maverik Center - West Valley CityRating: 5 out of 5

Hands down one of the best shows I've been too. Never saw someone so humble, entertaining, and down right talented all at once. Highly entertaining, funny, but was still meaningful.

  • Macklamore & Ryan Lewis - the BOSS!

by Pandahead13 on 10/29/13Maverik Center - West Valley CityRating: 4 out of 5

Had a fantastic time! He didn't hit the stage until 9:30 and finished up by a little after 11. Wished he had played longer, told allot of stories to make it more personal but really missed some of his big hits.

  • Macklemore & Ryan Lewis was amazing.

by rjshooter on 10/29/13Maverik Center - West Valley CityRating: 5 out of 5

I had the best time. They put on an incredible show. I even took my 3 boys (they love Macklemore) and they loved it. The only thing missing was he didn't play my 10 year old sons favorite song "My Oh My". I son even had his Mariners shirt on... Yes I recommend seeing Macklemore. I can't wait until he comes again...
