About

Lyle Lovett in Concert

A singer, composer and actor, Lyle Lovett has broadened the definition of American music in a career that spans 14 albums over three decades. Coupled with his gift for storytelling, the Texas-based musician fuses elements of Americana, swing, jazz, folk, gospel and blues in a convention-defying manner that breaks down barriers. Whether touring as a ‘Duo’ or with his ‘Acoustic Group’ or ‘The Large Band’, Lovett’s live performances show not only the breadth of this Texas legend’s deep talents, but also the diversity of his influences, making him one of the most compelling and captivating musicians in popular music. Since his self-titled debut in 1986, Lyle Lovett has evolved into one of music’s most vibrant and iconic performers. Among his many accolades, besides the four Grammy Awards, he was given the Americana Music Association’s inaugural Trailblazer Award, and was named Texas State Musician. His works, rich and eclectic, are some of the most beloved of any living artist working today.

    Awkward & boring

by JAMY on 10/16/23National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

I’m a big Lyle Lovett fan. That is, I’m a fan of his music, not of his interview skills of some guy I’ve never heard of before and sadly this was the show we saw. 40 mins in and Lyle & Leo had played 3 songs. It did get much better after that. Lyle needs a band as well. It was more of a money grab than a concert. Very disappointing show.

Enjoyed this concert of stories and songs. It was very heartwarming. Beautiful voices, lyrics and guitar.

Absolutely wonderful; Lyle Lovett never disappoints.

by Susie on 10/13/23Scottish Rite Auditorium - Collingswood

Lyle Lovett is not only phenomenally talented, but he is a thoughtful, generous and kind man. He seems appreciative for the opportunity to perform and he's so very complimentary to his fellow musicians - and to the audience members. I always come away feeling so uplifted after a Lyle Lovett concert. He is a beautiful man in every way. Can't wait until he's back in the New Jersey/Pennsylvania/New York area.

Lyle Lovett and Chris Isaak @ Scottish Rite

by AG on 10/12/23Scottish Rite Auditorium - Collingswood

Saw Lyle and Chris together last year in Santa Barbara. Really fun duo. Unfortunately, people still feel entitled to have full conversations during concerts. And also, people, PUT YOUR PHONES DOWN! It is very distracting to all around you. You can take a pic or two, or a quick video. But it is not necessary to record the whole show. Also, please learn how your phone works, before taking it out at a concert.

    Enjoyed the show a lot.

by PATTYK on 10/10/23Scottish Rite Auditorium - Collingswood

I didn't know much about Lyle Lovett prior to the show. My friend wanted to see him, and the venue is fairly close to us. We both live in Atlantic County, NJ. I didn't know too much about Chris Isaak, but I came to love his voice (the range is incredible!) I wasn't familiar with Chris as an actor, writer, or singer until the show. After the show, I did some research and found out he's been around for awhile and involved in tons of artistic works. I have downloaded most of his music! I liked the venue; the parking was easy, and the assistance from the staff was incredible! I was recently at a show at the Tropicana in AC. It took three tries asking employees, "Where is the Showroom?"to get someone who directed us "somewhat". :-( At the Scottish Rite Auditorium, my friend and I were taken directly to our seats by one of the theater assistants. They were taking everyone to their seats. Thanks so much for the hospitality! I wish that Lyle and Chris used more time with their music instead of exchanging stories-- even though the stories were interesting. :-)

    Lyle Lovett concert

    by Lorraine on 8/23/23

I have seen Lyle Lovett 8 times. I always love his concerts but tonight I saw probably the best concert ever. The large band and back up singers were amazing. I love Lyle’s story telling and the best surprise was the appearance of Peter Asher. It was a magical night. Can’t wait to see him again.

Lyle Lovett was absolutely amazing! My husband and I both commented on what an outstanding performer he is and his band members are are equally talented. What a wonderful treat the show was.

    Sound quality was a disappointment

by Attendee in orchestra section on 8/23/23

The sound quality was poor. The vocals were drowned out by everything else. My husband wasn't familiar with Lyle's music and didn't enjoy the show because he couldn't understand most of what was sung. The only song he understood clearly was a duet with the pianist that only had the two vocals and the piano. Someone on the first couple of rows told Lyle that we couldn't hear him early on. It didn't get better. Have seen LL&HLB before many years ago in Knoxville. That was a great show. This one was unfortunately not.

    Love Lyle

    by Dene on 8/23/23

This concert was great. The sound in Hobby Center is amazing. The Large Band was fabulous. The only reason I rated this a 4 is that there were times I couldn’t hear Lyle as clearly as I would have liked. A full 3 hours with no intermission. Just loved the evening.

    Hard, narrow seats

    by Rick on 8/22/23

The show was great. After more concerts than I can count, I've seen the best ever. Lyle is a true professional who is personal and truly loves what he does. I love the fact that he is a hometown boy who has reached the top of his craft and is surrounded by consumate artists. He and his roommate Robert Earl Keen are both great examples of Texas music. I have been fortunate to see both fine gentlemen and love their music equally. The seats at Hobby Center, however, leave alot to be desired. They are hard and too close together. If you're fortunate enough to see Lyle lovett, I hope you see him somewhere with better seats.

    Awsome

by humble mr b on 8/22/23

I knew the venue was awesome as I have seen a play or two there before. Even though I was in the upper seats, I had great sight lines to the stage. There were many well known supporters to the show. It had it all with horns drums keyboards guitars and even backup singers, oops almost forgot violin, all of which Lyle were friends of or he had worked with in the past. The music pretty much covered almost everything, maybe even a touch of classical. It was worth every penny and I will gladly see it again. Lyle Lovett really knows how to put on a show

Didn’t live up to previous LL concert experiences

    by Tmastrpatron51 on 8/22/23

This was the fourth Lyle Lovett concert I’ve attended & the third Large Band performance. In my opinion, the two previous performances sounded better & were much more entertaining in general. One expects Lovett to talk a lot, but at the Hobby Center performance there was WAY too much verbiage & not enough music. Plus there seemed to be a glitch with Lovett’s microphone that made his singing voice choppy & difficult to understand, at least from our right orchestra seats.

Great Showby the ultimate professional musician/singer!

    by JC on 8/22/23

As always, a wonderful show by Lyle. Love the way he always highlights and acknowledges the professional members of the band and their careers. These guys are all very professional in their own right, and well rehearsed, and it makes for great music, and a great show. Always interesting to hear Lyle’s stories, you just have to listen carefully since he is pretty soft spoken. A great time.

    Great event

    by Kat on 8/22/23

Lyle Lovett and His Large Band was a better than expected concert. Our first time seeing him live and we enjoyed his personal narration of his life in Houston as a kid, and now with his own kiddos. His mom was there and lots of cousins and personal friends. The Band was superb. The venue was comfortable. We'd do it again.

    Top 10 Alltime

    by Sr. Frito on 8/22/23

The Large Band is awesome. Lyle is humble, funny, dry and incredibly talented. We’re blessed in Houston to be the last stop every year on his summer tour. Don’t miss it.
