Good Overall
by E.True on 1/14/20The Charleston Music Hall - CharlestonLoved the storyline that dug into family secrets that relate to the fact that we all have family secrets that we’d rather not be told. Mills was fantastic. Wilhelmina was phenomenal. And Wilhelmina’s biological mom reminds every African american child of their loving but stern grandmother who always does what she has to for the sake of her family. The cast seem to gel well together and it showed. The musical talents (especially Mills) were exceptionally tasteful. Loved that you used a local college choir; involving the city that you’re in is always a plus in my book - we like to see our own people. Things to work on: transitioning from scene to scene made me tired! Get a revolving stage with a better stage set that allows you to get rid of debris (if necessary) from scene to scene. The show started a tad bit late, not exactly at 7:30. These were the only reasons I gave 4 vs 5 stars.
