  • Pink Floyd Lives

by Timprn on 5/25/10Mahalia Jackson Theater of the Performing Arts - New OrleansRating: 5 out of 5

A simply wonderful evening of Pink Floyd. We were visiting from California and felt truly blessed to be able to experience The Music of Pink Floyd at the Mahalia Jackson Theater. It was a great setting with perfect acoustics and an outstanding light show. The Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra was the perfect compliment to Pink Floyd. We especially enjoyed the extended version of "Money".

The LPO was amazing. The only glitch was the vocals from Randy Jackson. I am a fan of his; however, his voice during the first half was more conducive to a rock concert that requires high pitch. I have a feeling someone asked him to soften up for the 2nd half of the show, as he was fantastic the rest of the night.

  • Orchestra was rocking out

by PinkyPolarBear on 5/18/10Mahalia Jackson Theater of the Performing Arts - New OrleansRating: 4 out of 5

I really enjoyed the show. I was lucky enough to hear the real Pink Floyd in 1994 at the New Orleans Superdome. It was good to visit the tunes again. I have a very discerning ear and my only concern was with the vocals. It was still worth seeing.

  • Simply put, incredible show

The show was fantastic. The mix of the orchesta and the rock and boll fits hand in hand. Great time, would definitely see the show again.

The overall show was great. I never got to see Pink Floyd live and wish I could have so it was great to have the opportunity to see this show. I just wish they would have played some more of Pink Floyd's songs. I hope to be able to see the show again.

  • Excellent Show!

I thoroughly enjoyed the performance. Tom Jones' guitar work was truly amazing and Randy Jackson was added bonus with his awesome vocals.

The sound and mix were good from any spot in the theater. Havens did a great job with the arrangements and he certainly brought out the best in the entire troop. The light show was just enough to enhance the mood without distracting people away from the music or the orchestra. It was nice to hear all the Pink Floyd favorites again after having seen the band, live, many years ago in Baton Rouge. There was a whole bunch of fantastic talent on the stage last night but you can`t beat a night with Randy J. This guy gives you everything he`s got even if he didn`t get his beauty rest and he always leaves you wanting more. Thanks Brent and Randy for another terrific " Music of " show.

  • A pleasant surprise!

by isladreams on 5/16/10Mahalia Jackson Theater of the Performing Arts - New OrleansRating: 4 out of 5

Pink Floyd is one of my favorite all time bands and their music is so unique and awesome. I really didn't know what to expect, but was excited to attend this concert with the LPO. I was pleasantly surprised and completely impressed! The music was fantastic. I will admit though, that the first half of the show, the orchestra was kind of overpowered by the rock band, but the music was still fantastic. The second half however, the orchestra came alive and was much more in the forefront. This was a powerful and amazing show and I would go back and see it again and again LOVED it!

  • Pink Floyd music, Randy Jackson and LPO!

The show was incredible. First time at Mahalia Jackson Theatre and I loved that it was a smaller theatre which translates to good seats no matter were you sit. Sound system was good and if you closed your eyes and just listened it felt as if you were at a Pink Floyd concert. Randy Jackson did a great job and still has good vocals even after 40 years in the business. The audience was really into the show. It was a fantastic evening of entertainment by the LPO. How about the next show being the music of Led Zepplin? I would say another sold out show.

  • The orchestra DOES get better each performance!

  • Louisiana Philharmonic at The Mahalia Jackson!

LPO is always a great entertainment option, and in The Mahalia Jackson Theater of the Performing Arts, Beethoven No. 8 & No. 9 were Amazing (five star). Having booked late for the concert, me and friend were in the dead last row, and very apprehensive of the event. To might delight, this was the best acustical venue ever and the view, well 'I was there!' This is truely a world class theater that is so underpromoted. We're very fortunate indeed to have such a hall in New Orleans, and who better to bring it to life than the LPO! Oh, and champagne at intermission was ice cold; perfectly refreshing and affordable.

  • Big and Beautiful Beethoven

The TPA was a mirac ulous setting for the orchestra; in addition to a well directred, well played performance, the singers were an added attraction well worth viewing. In a word, top notch. We'll be back!!
