  • Best of Both Worlds

by Levee813 on 5/18/15Mahalia Jackson Theater for the Performing Arts - New OrleansRating: 5 out of 5

My son & I went to the concert together. We both had a wonderful time. Rarely do we attend events that entertain both of us immensely. However, this one fit the bill. Worth every penny. Also very wheelchair friendly venue. On the negative side, more bartenders needed.

  • Music of Pink Floyd

by MikkiT on 5/18/15Mahalia Jackson Theater for the Performing Arts - New OrleansRating: 4 out of 5

The only thing I was disappointed in for this performance was the use of prerecorded tracks for the special sound effects found on Pink Floyd albums. I was looking forward to seeing how these sound effects would be reproduced by orchestral instruments.

  • LPO, Windorne Music, Pink Floyd Outstanding!

by Dan5050 on 5/18/15Mahalia Jackson Theater for the Performing Arts - New OrleansRating: 5 out of 5

Cannot rave enough about this collaboration of talent. The featured musicians and vocalists from www.windbornemusic.com with the backing of the LPO gave a performance without peer. Cannot wait to see a future collaboration down the road.

  • An Evening of Award Winning Movie Music

by JackoSheba on 3/12/15Mahalia Jackson Theater for the Performing Arts - New OrleansRating: 4 out of 5

Loved most of the selections. My favorite was Sound of Music, followed by Over the Rainbow, followed by West Side Story. All others were good, but not personal favorites as much as the ones I selected. LPO was fabulous, as was the conductor. Sideline comics were ok, but not in my taste, although it was funny seeing the Stompers!

  • With the orchestra, he was stellar

by MisterDigger on 1/20/15Mahalia Jackson Theater for the Performing Arts - New OrleansRating: 4 out of 5

I had never seen Randy Newman before, so I jumped at the chance to see him backed by the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra. The highlights for me were not expected at all and was a very pleasant surprise, which was him conducting the orchestra for his four soundtrack suites. The Toy Story and Maverick Suite were the best part for me. The low points were him playing solo piano on such rockers as Kingfish, whereby you could hear folks in the balcony above stomping their feet. I would say that only about half of his songs from his own albums were with the orchestra, and the other half were him going solo on piano and vocals. For the very humorous numbers, solos worked out very well, but the rock numbers left this listener wanting a backup band.

  • Randy Newman delights

by groovedog13 on 1/20/15Mahalia Jackson Theater for the Performing Arts - New OrleansRating: 5 out of 5

Randy Newman gave a witty and fun performance along with the outstanding Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra. His music is engaging with a style all its own; and when he sits down to the piano he draws the audience in with his personality and sense of humor. Add to that the full orchestra playing some of his musical scores from the movies and it was truly a delightful evening.

  • Randy Newman gives us a music lesson

by VermontCynic on 1/20/15Mahalia Jackson Theater for the Performing Arts - New OrleansRating: 5 out of 5

I've been listening to Randy Newman for over 40 years. This is the first live show I've seen him do and it did not disappoint in any way. It was fabulous. He did a good range of his popular tunes, including some from his personal history and some that were charmingly political. He ran through three orchestral scores with the LA Philharmonic Orchestra and reminded us all what a phenomenal composer he is. Even if you are a short person, go see him if you ever have the chance.

  • Randy Newman & Orchestra were phenomenal!

by BROLA on 1/20/15Mahalia Jackson Theater for the Performing Arts - New OrleansRating: 4 out of 5

In his 70s now, Randy Newman proved he's still got it and is attracting a new generation of fans as evidenced by my 16 year old son who was wowed by the performance. Randy is always entertaining but even more so when backed by or leading a full orchestra.

  • Bela Fleck and the LPO

by BillStill on 1/12/15Mahalia Jackson Theater for the Performing Arts - New OrleansRating: 4 out of 5

Interesting performance by Fleck; he made the banjo sound like it belonged in the orchestra. I enjoyed the piece, but, am glad it was only one piece. More of that would have gotten old. The Bernstein was good, but, very American. The Dvorak was excellent. Seat 1 was against the outside wall, with no aisle; not indicated on seat diagram. If I had known we would have to climb over people, I would have arrived earlier.

  • Beethoven Symphony No. 9

by MariaRB on 5/27/14Mahalia Jackson Theater for the Performing Arts - New OrleansRating: 5 out of 5

The program was wonderful, although the first part of the program was a bit awkward in its brevity. Beethoven's 9th was inspiring and invigorating. The chorus was beautiful and strong at the same time. The Alto soloist was stellar; her performance was a standout in a top notch performance.

  • Remember the King was awesome!

by copwife on 5/25/14Mahalia Jackson Theater for the Performing Arts - New OrleansRating: 5 out of 5

I thoroughly enjoyed this program and would hope that it would come back to the city again! The orchestra was great and the artist portraying Elvis was incredible with an awesome voice and personality. It was a great tribute to the King of Rock and Roll.

Super show all around. Band was great and the LPO was also.

  • Great fun

by LittleLioness on 5/21/14Mahalia Jackson Theater for the Performing Arts - New OrleansRating: 5 out of 5

The vocals were excellent. The singer did not imitate Elvis as much as he captured the passion and style.

  • LPO, Robert Shaw, Jonathan Tessero: Amazing Trio

by asugar on 5/20/14Mahalia Jackson Theater for the Performing Arts - New OrleansRating: 5 out of 5

What a fabulous tribute to Elvis! The orchestra, Mr. Shaw and his band, and Jonathan Tessero had a camaraderie that enhanced the experience. Everyone on stage looked like they were having such a good time. It was contagious. We all felt the electricity! Thank you for a fabulous experience. I enjoyed the stories that Mr. Shaw share about Elvis' life. Very educational. There was a song that I had never heard before.

  • Remember the King!

The show was awesome! I loved it.....just wish it were longer, I didn't want it to end! The singer and the band were great, and very entertaining. What can I say about the LPO? They are amazing. Highly recommend this show for all Elvis fans!

  • Very Entertaining

by Abitalady123 on 5/20/14Mahalia Jackson Theater for the Performing Arts - New OrleansRating: 5 out of 5

I really enjoyed Robert Shaw. I found him very entertaining. He would give a bit of Elvis history between songs and he had a great sense of humor. The Phil Haromnica Orchreastra was simply FANTASTIC!!!!!

  • The LPO Remembers Elvis Through the Years

by thewolf51852 on 5/20/14Mahalia Jackson Theater for the Performing Arts - New OrleansRating: 5 out of 5

Robert Shaw and the LPO was great. The conductor was really in tule with Robert Shaw and the Lonely Street Band.. I particularly enjoyed the first half of the show. In the second half even though Robert Shaw has a great voice and the songs were great. He didn't do Elvis as strongly.

  • fiesta fabulosa

by duna1 on 3/25/14Mahalia Jackson Theater for the Performing Arts - New OrleansRating: 5 out of 5

Fabulous--intense yet light. Paquito's humor is as on key as his virtuoso playing. Let's do it again soon.

  • Great concert! I would definitely go again!
