LOTUS IN CONCERT:
Lotus is the kind of band that thrives during live performance – they put on electrifying, highly creative shows that are, in the very apt words of ticket buyers, “euphoric” and “energizing”. The group's unique combination of roots rock and electronic beats makes for a diverse sound, and it's no surprise that their influences range from jam band greats The Grateful Dead to electronic pioneers Kraftwerk. Their self-described "jamtronica" tracks are full of funky beats, energizing rhythms, and screaming guitars that get even the most closeted dancers on their feet. Especially dazzling are their complex lighting arrangements, which create a truly unique stage atmosphere. The band keeps their shows thrillingly unpredictable with constantly varying setlists and frequent improvisation, but one thing they always deliver is a truly transcendent concert experience.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Electronic jam band Lotus formed in Indiana in 1999 while all five members were attending Goshen College. After playing local stages they made their recording debut in 2002 with the album Vibes, a compilation of live performances from the year before. A deal with Harmonized Records followed, and the band released three albums over the next three years, including 2004's Jammy-nominated Nomad. In 2006 they signed to SCI Fidelity Records and released the live double album Escaping Sargasso Sea, which was nominated for a Jammy award for Best Live Album of 2007. Over the next few years they continued to release albums at a steady rate and toured extensively in North America and Japan, typically playing around 100 shows a year. They've built much of their fanbase by word of mouth, encouraging concertgoers to record and share footage from their live shows. They've also become festival favorites, performing on stages at Bonnaroo, Outside Lands, Camp Bisco, Wakarusa, Rothbury, and more. In 2014 they released their eighth studio album Gilded Age, a stellar record comprised of six new rock tracks and four electronic remixes.
Unbelievable. MSTRKRFT was incredible, Lotus was incredible. The combination of the two was amazing. One of my favorite concerts of all time.
lotus is amazing everytime. mstrkrft was a good transition between sets
This event kicked ass!! Lotus brought the house down. They had some excellent mashups and the dancing kept going all night long!
Awesome party great DJs and an awesome performance by lotus.
the combination of attire and musical perfection converged very nicely. lotus blows my mind every time i see them. i always go into a show thinking i am ready for what is about to come but every single time it is unexpected and amazing. they are probably the most amazing people in this world.
Lotus played an amazing and unforgettable set list. They played covers like MGMT's Kids and classics like Sun Rain. Definitely one of my all time favorite NYE and concert.
1st Lotus set was slammin minus the spunions pushing towards the front like their brain was on fire :) MSTRKRFT wasn't my cup of tea but they did jam their asses off and props to them for bringin in the New Year right! The 2nd Lotus set was sahweeet and the guitarist shredded it during a solo during their cover of "Crazy Train". Thanks for a really good new years!
the whole show was amazing,.. the music and the lights and everyone there was so wonderful i wish i could do it all over again right nowwwww!!
Great show, but there should have been an encore. Otherwise, phenomenal.
My first show at the Electric Factory... amazing! The light show was great... sound was fantastic. The 21+ balcony offers a whole other experience. No long waits for drinks and really awesome employees.
Awesome. Lotus sounded great with a nice blend of laid back beats and bumpin' electronic synth, along with a brilliant laser light show (as always). Mstrcrft also represented well with some bangin' tunes. Excellent time had by all.
This was a truly amazing show, Lotus never disappoints, I would see them again any time anywhere, if you are questioning whether to see these guys, just do it! It is a mind blowing experience!
this show was truly incredible. they played an amazing set, and had an incredible encore. if you were a fan, you went crazy. if you werent a fan, you became one.
The show was unforgettable. Lotus's setup was so unique. They had a guitarist on the right with a keyboard, a bassist in the middle with a keyboard, and a guitarist on the right. Also, the percussion groove was present for the entirety of the show. They had a main drummer in the back left and a auxillary percussionist (still had a full kit+bongos) in the back right. They covered David Bowie's "Space oddity" and a disco biscuits track along with several of their trippy originals. They did a great job of coming in and out and building energy with their music. The concert was non-stop excitement from the start. I recommend anyone anywhere to go to any lotus show in the future.
Lotus was insane, and I wasn't expecting anything less than that. I have seen them several times, and they cease to amaze me.
Awesome- just like every time! Lotus performs some of the best shows I have ever seen
The staff at The Vic were all apparently in terrible moods. Very rude. That was all that really detracted from the show, looked like the guys were having a great time up on stage. Of my three vantage points I'd say being up on the balcony was by far the best, had an entire row to dance to myself, while being able to look down on everyone else. Right up by the stage on the ground floor allowed for a good view and good pictures, but a very restricted ability to dance. Coolest part about what they played, was that they'd start and end with songs from albums, but they were filled with awesome jams that didn't seem to end.
Once again, Lotus put on an incredible show. Tons of energy over their 2 sets. These guys are highly recommended....they flat out rock! Crowd was real good...or course, at shows in this genre, there can be some younger kids who still don't know their limits, but for the most part, they are harmless, lost in their own worlds for the evening. Bathrooms at the Vic are as usual, disgusting! I'd probably drink at this show....but those bathrooms don't make it easy. My gf said the females were is poor shape as well. Opener was a DJ named Hood Internet.......no good at all. Had this video montage that he just kept repeating. Feel like I saw the same 7 videos over his hour set......and those videos were put through some type of filter that changed their colors. Not original....and the crowd didn't seem too much into him.
Lotus is the best. I am never going to miss them again
This show was absolutely amazing! The lights were insane, the music was insane, total awesomeness.
