    Santana #1 FAN

by YOLANDA3 on 10/1/09HP Pavilion At San Jose - San Jose

The event was historical. The performers were fantastic, however Carlos Santana did not bring his band. His musicians were MIA, which put a slight damper on his "well known" performance!! I was looking forward to his entire magical experience, band and all. Los Lobos did their best to sing some of SANTANA'S songs and to back him up as a band, but the entire SANTANA EXPERIENCE as I know it to be.....was missing. I love CARLOS and having SANTANA on the list of performers motivated MANY to come out and purchase tickets. I know this venue was to HONOR Cesar Chavez, his birthday and his work and I attended this venue in 2006 when Dolores Huerta held the event at the HOB @ Universal Studios in Los Angeles, Pete Escovedo was the opening performer and then Carlos Santana performed with his entire HISTORICAL BAND. THIS SHOW LACKED in this area. But, I am happy to have my CARLOS SANTANA FIX...I needed to see him, hear his magicial music, and fall in love once again!!!

    santana hopeful

by Anonymous on 10/1/09HP Pavilion At San Jose - San Jose

Little Joe gave one of his most memorable performance with a spectacular voice range. Los Lobos were average. Santana was a real dissapointment. I expected to hear some of his hits that made him famous and all I heard was a lot of "jamming" music with Los Lobos and no special connection with the fans.

    Awesome Event

by Gilroy48 on 9/30/09HP Pavilion At San Jose - San Jose

While yes, the event was awesome there were three things that could have made it superbly awesome. 1) For $85 seats we sat right in front of a huge speaker hanging from the ceiling and could only see the feet of the musicians--it was taken care of when I complained--we got moved to better seats; 2) there was no dancing--how can you not dance as you hear the tunes of LIttle Joe. In some instances the atttendants were rude as they tried to push you back into your seat. 3) Santana didn't play many of his old tunes. Otherwise, all the music was great and it was a wonderful way to celebrate my birthday.

Music was great, just not enough

by s2springer on 9/29/09HP Pavilion At San Jose - San Jose

We loved the show, it just wasn't enough. Little Joe did a memorable performance and Los Lobos was unforgettable. Carlos was the highlight. There just wasn't enough of him. At $150+ per seat, we expected more.

The Mariachi Festival concert was a disappointment

by redroseofTexas on 9/29/09HP Pavilion At San Jose - San Jose

I was extremely disappointed with most of the concert. Little Joe was the best of the night. Los Lobas appeared to be unprepared and at one point mentioned a member was missing. Some kid kept running around the stage during the preformance messing with the equipment. looked very tackie. I love Santana but I was disppointed with that too. it was more like a jam session then a Mariachi festival. I was under the impression that Linda Ronstadt was going to perfrom.. my bad for thinking that since she was listed as the Artistic Director. well the night would not have been so bad if maybe she would have been the one introducing the first band or even reading the prayer / poem at the beginning. so disappointed with the evening!

    Amazing Performances All Around

by 74Athena on 9/28/09HP Pavilion At San Jose - San Jose

We've never seen any of the performers, nor been to HP Pavilion, San Jose, CA, but what a treat. The concert began with a short video on Cesar Chavez's role in uniting the California farm workers followed by Little Joe and the Family's diverse set of opening music. The children were already professional horn blowers and the adults were seasoned artists. Little time was wasted getting the audio just right. Los Lobos followed with masterful numbers that made me wonder how Carlos Santana was going to shine after hearing this remarkably talented group. Carlos Santana was eventually (modestly ) introduced like a part of this one big Mexican Family of Performers and concert goers. He humbly matched his picking with the lead Los Lobos picker and the crowd went wild. Totally awesome!!!

The Mariachi Festival was absolutely amazing

by Olyca04 on 9/28/09HP Pavilion At San Jose - San Jose

I had never listened to Little Joe and not so much to Los Lobos. But what transpired last night was incredible. When Carlos Santana joined Los Lobos well what can I say, "it was orgasmic!" What incedible voices, songs, and memories. I was proud to be among "mi familia." This must happen again next year.

    Los Lobos was Amazing

by Kellygirl53 on 9/28/09HP Pavilion At San Jose - San Jose

The San Jose Mariachi Festival Concert Tribute to Cesar Chavez was not only fun but was for such a worthy cause! Little Joe y la Famila band was first to play. I enjoyed their music. They were very entertaining. The performance of the Los Lobos’ band was incredible. Their versatility from playing old familiar Mexican songs to rock music was awesome. Their energy was infectious. You truly had to hold back from getting out of your seat and dancing. Dave Hidalgo mesmerized me with his musical talent. Not only with his extraordinary talent in playing several musical instruments but his voice is just as beautiful. The entire band has unbelievably talented. When Santana came on stage it was Cesar Rosas that played his guitar surprisingly better than Santana. My husband and I enjoyed this concert immensely. He was already a fan of both Los Lobos and Little Joe y la Familia, We are both fans of Santana’s. All in all it was an amazing night both musically and to be a part of this Tribute to honor the Great Cesar Chavez and his cause!

Carlos, Los Lobos, Little Joe y la Familia

by DaytonaBob on 9/28/09HP Pavilion At San Jose - San Jose

As a tribute to the life and legacy of Cesar Chavez, the event was a an expression of gratitude, love and devotion. Each musical performer brought their own special gifts to the memorable gathering. Both young and old kids witnessed a moving and melodius affirmation to the joy of life and unity of purpose. Little Joe started the festivities, Los Lobos gathered momentum and Carlos revealed his soul. I remember listening to him practice in the mission when we were kids. We parked outside the garage on our bikes and enjoyed the free concert. To reflect on those days and see where we all are now makes me thankful for the gift we share called life. The jam when Carlos and Los Lobos started playing together was essentially the joining , on a spiritual level, of each of the members present. The spirit moved within us. Joyful tears were shed.

Los Lobos were awesome for the most part...

by c4mancala on 9/28/09HP Pavilion At San Jose - San Jose

The show was great w/Little Joe and the familia, then Los Lobos were awesome, Santana was okay, but you couldn't really hear him play his guitar since there so many others playing theirs onstage....and then at the end ...it was just banging....screaming guitars jam which turned me off...with Santana and Los Lobos.
