About

Los Angeles Kings History

The Kings were founded in 1967 as part of the six-team influx that saw the NHL expand to 12 teams. There were some shining stars; Rogie Vachon was a stellar goaltender, while Hall of Famer Marcel Dionne lit the lamp at a furious pace alongside his "Triple Crown" line mates Dave Taylor and Charlie Simmer. The Kings’ biggest postseason success during this time was with 1982's "Miracle on Manchester," where the Kings made the largest comeback in NHL playoff history to win 6-5 over the heavily favored Edmonton Oilers, who were led by a 21-year-old phenom named Wayne Gretzky.

Six years later, the Kings landed The Great One. Alongside fellow stars Jari Kurri, Luc Robitaille, Rob Blake, and Kelly Hrudey, the team flirted with success for several years, ultimately losing to the Montreal Canadiens in the Stanley Cup Final in 1993.

Shortly after the turn of the century, the Kings broke through in a big way, winning the Stanley Cup Championship in 2012 and 2014 under coach Darryl Sutter.

The Rally was Incredible, Awesome, Electric and just flat out Great! The Energy level was about as high as the playoff games themselves. Everyone seemed to be elevated to another dimension or level in being a Kings Fan! You could feel the excitement and hopes of keeping the Cup here in LA!!! Go Kings Go!

  • Unforgettable...!!!!

by Anonymous on 6/19/14STAPLES Center - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

I cant wait till next year!!! I would have like to see the parade. Instead they showed the overtime when the winning goal was scored. It would have been even more exciting that when the winning goal was scored that the Stanley Cup came into Staples at the same time.

  • Better than what I hoped for

by Svensgirl on 6/19/14STAPLES Center - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

This event was spectacular in every way. The LA Kings make the Fans feel like we are an integral part of their team. The level of appreciation from the top down was all encompassing. The owners were sincerely thanked (which says something about them), the BEST speeches from the GM Dean Lombardi, the Coaches including the Fantastic Darryl Sutter (Big Applause), the hockey players Captain Dustin Brown, Assistant Captains Matt Greene and Anze Kopitar, MVP & Conn Smythe Trophy winner Justin Williams. All of the speeches were stunningly appropriate and inspiring! And course, a shout out to down to Earth LA Major Eric Garcetti, for starting the FUN early on.

  • A greet end to an unbelievable season!

by WJKings on 6/19/14STAPLES Center - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

Everyone was there that could be, from staff, to team members, to the players. It gave everyone an opportunity to gather one last time to look back and marvel at the incredible season that was this year's Los Angeles Kings. Videos were shown, some were old, being seen by the players for the first time, some were new, showing the highlights from the games of the three game seven games and the five games of the finals. The unsung heroes were introduced from the front house staff and the supporting staff, the coaches and of course the players themselves. What was shown throughout was a very tight knit of gentlemen who had high level of respect for themselves, each other and the game. What a day!

  • Kings win in Overtime!

by snorkelbob on 6/7/14STAPLES Center - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

The Kings started off like expected with very heavy legs in the first period after coming off a highly emotional 7 game series with the defending Stanley Cup Champion Blackhawks. The turning point was Clifford scoring a goal near the end of the first period to cut the Rangers' lead in half at 2-1. After tying the score in the second period, our defense and amazing goalie Jonathan Quick shut down the Rangers totally by allowing only 3 shots in the third period while the Kings had 20.
