Los Angeles Kings History

The Kings were founded in 1967 as part of the six-team influx that saw the NHL expand to 12 teams. There were some shining stars; Rogie Vachon was a stellar goaltender, while Hall of Famer Marcel Dionne lit the lamp at a furious pace alongside his "Triple Crown" line mates Dave Taylor and Charlie Simmer. The Kings’ biggest postseason success during this time was with 1982's "Miracle on Manchester," where the Kings made the largest comeback in NHL playoff history to win 6-5 over the heavily favored Edmonton Oilers, who were led by a 21-year-old phenom named Wayne Gretzky.

Six years later, the Kings landed The Great One. Alongside fellow stars Jari Kurri, Luc Robitaille, Rob Blake, and Kelly Hrudey, the team flirted with success for several years, ultimately losing to the Montreal Canadiens in the Stanley Cup Final in 1993.

Shortly after the turn of the century, the Kings broke through in a big way, winning the Stanley Cup Championship in 2012 and 2014 under coach Darryl Sutter.

  • Great Venue To Watch Hockey!

by JimmyB17 on 10/7/14MGM Grand Garden Arena - Las VegasRating: 5 out of 5

I've been trying to go to Frozen Fury for about 10 years now and was finally able to make it happen this year. Now I'm even more bummed I missed it for all these years cause it was a blast. We had nose bleed seats and still had a better view of the game than some mid level seats at Staples Center. MGM Grand Arena is an awesome place to watch hockey. I hope the Kings continue the Frozen Fury tradition for many years to come so my wife and I can make it our new October tradition.

The only down on this event was exiting from the venue. It was so congested coming out and then joining right in with the casino traffic.

I loved the excitement of the game and being with all the King's fans in Vegas. Even though we lost in the shoot out it was an amazing game. We had fantastic seats. The charity poker game the night before hosted by Luc. It was great to see Justin Brown playing poker. All in all it was a great event that I will attend again next year. Go Kings!!!

  • Really bad seats

by Rickrock23 on 10/7/14MGM Grand Garden Arena - Las VegasRating: 1 out of 5

When ordering these tickets shortly after going on sale, never did it say the view was gonna be obstructed by a section 12-20 rows. Very frustrating as game went on especially since my team scored both of their goals in that side of the ice.

  • Kings Rally

    by Keeny27 on 6/22/14STAPLES Center - Los AngelesRating: 4 out of 5

After the parade, we got shoved over to get inside the Staples Center for the Rally and we were in a line a mile long and the line was across the street and the cops started to tell us to get out of the street and onto the sidewalk. We lost our spots and were all shoved over like cattle. The only complaint I have really! Seeing out kings players inside was awesome!

  • We are all Kings!

    by Beatles59 on 6/22/14STAPLES Center - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

In 2008 Dean Lombardi invited all season ticket members to the Toyota Center in El Segundo for a chalk talk session. Dean asked for our support in his master plan to bring the Kings organization to prominence. The goal being Stanley Cup champions. Dean executed the plan masterfully and with a little luck the Kings are two time champions. I now understand what Dean meant by the statement "We are all part of the Kings family." The private Championship Rally confirms the commitment of the Kings organization to the season ticket members, fans, and city of Los Angeles. Thank you on a job well done. GKG!!!

  • GO KINGS GO!!!!!

  • Rally was great but outside staff were clueless

by CountesssAwesome on 6/20/14STAPLES Center - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

Once we got inside, everything was great. The rally was fun and happy. Unfortunately getting inside was a terrible experience. None of the AEG/LA Live/ Staples staff knew where we all were to go to enter the building. We were getting no information, conflicting info, and just plain wrong info. Someone even started a rumor that if you weren't inside Staples before the parade started, you wouldn't be allowed inside for the rally. A man in an LA Live shirt, who was guarding the entrance to the plaza off of George Street, was telling people they had to go back to Olympic, down Figueroa, and enter at the 12th St entrance. He was unaware that the entrance 1/2 a block from him was open. There appeared to be 2 entrances open for the 15,000+ people trying to gain entry: 12th Street and the one near Georgia Street. The Star Plaza entrance was reserved for the small amount of "VIP" ticket holders that had been the only ones allowed to watch the parade from Chick Hearn Court (unlike the parade in 2012). When there is another parade and rally, I'm not sure that I'll go. We were so angry at our treatment that it ruined part of our day.

  • GO KINGS GO

Loved it because it means we got the Cup. AGAIN. This long time fan has waited a long time for this. My only complaint is no rally towel this time. GO KINGS GO
