Los Angeles Chargers History

Established in Los Angeles in 1959 as a charter member of the American Football League, the Chargers moved south in 1961 and played in San Diego through the 2016 season. Advancing to five of the first six AFL Championship games ever played, the Chargers claimed the 1963 title and later joined the National Football League when the two leagues merged in 1970.

Since the merger, the Chargers have appeared in the playoffs 15 times and went on to appear in Super Bowl XXIX in 1999. They have captured 15 division titles to date. In 2017, the Chargers moved back to Los Angeles after 56 seasons in San Diego. The team has a total of 15 inductees into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, including LaDainian Tomlinson, Lance Alworth, Ron Mix, Sid Gillman, Dan Fouts, Kellen Winslow, Charlie Joiner, Fred Dean, Bobby Beathard, Don Coryell, and Junior Seau.

Los Angeles Chargers at SoFi Stadium

The Chargers called the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum home during the team’s first year of existence in 1959. After relocating from San Diego to Los Angeles in 2017, the team played at Dignity Health Sports Park through the 2019 season while SoFi Stadium was under construction. As the first indoor-outdoor stadium in America, SoFi Stadium is a state-of-the-art venue that can accommodate up to 70,240 fans for Chargers games. Costing $4.9 billion to construct, it is the most expensive NFL stadium to be built.

Located on the site of the former Hollywood Park racetrack, the stadium has played host to a variety of sporting events, including Super Bowl LVI in 2022 and the 2023 College Football Playoff National Championship, and will be the site for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies at the Olympic Games in 2028. It is also the home field for the Rams, making SoFi Stadium one of two stadiums currently shared by two NFL teams.

Using smartphone as the only ticket option is risky

by What is my phone dies? on 12/14/22SoFi Stadium - Inglewood

SoFi stadium (and most every stadium) requires you to show your ticket to enter, move from corridor to corridor, and re-enter after a bathroom break, etc. Transport to the stadium, entrance, game duration can be as long as 8 hours. This is seriously a bad way to require ticket holders to show tickets as the only (required) option. Seriously a bad idea and I won’t do this again.

    Amazing!

by Mo on 12/14/22SoFi Stadium - Inglewood

It’s like you’re in a video game! I was mind blown by the whole experience from walking into the stadium, to the street vendors, the sheer size of the stadium.

    First time at So-Fi

by BiGG House on 12/14/22SoFi Stadium - Inglewood

Really enjoyed visiting the new stadium! It's like a small city! The food selection could use an upgrade, I guess Petco Park (San Diego) spoils us San Diegans!

    Excellent experience

by Jordi on 11/23/22SoFi Stadium - Inglewood

SoFi Stadium is an excellent venue to enjoy an NFL game, before and during the game. Must fix issues concerning having faster exit routes from the parking lot

    Disappointed

by Chargers Fan on 11/23/22SoFi Stadium - Inglewood

Purchasing expensive tickets in the "VIP" section is just a money grab - the tickets were incredibly expensive with the understanding that food and drinks were included - the food was unimpressive stadium food but the worse part was the excessively long lines throughout the entire game - the "free" drinks were poor quality alcohol and i spent the better part of the 3rd quarter in line for a one ounce pour of 2nd class vodka. It also took over 45 minutes to exit the parking lot after the game. Traffic control is non-existent.

    SoFi was a new experience

by Tony L on 10/31/22SoFi Stadium - Inglewood

This was the fourth stadium I’ve visited away from my usual Lumen Field. It was on a whole new level. Still need to see the other newer stadiums but this was cool. Sad I couldn’t get to field level but very nice. Only improvement would be more accessible activities for pregame entertainment. Rest was beautiful. And Seahawks win was outstanding!

There were actually 2 teams playing.

by Cathy on 10/27/22SoFi Stadium - Inglewood

The announcer seemed to not notice that there were two teams playing. I’ve been to other games where the Seahawks were the guests and the announcer would acknowledge the Seahawks team members involved in a play. This announcer didn’t acknowledge the presence of the Seahawks even when he talked about the coin toss at the beginning of the game. I don’t know if he was that lacking in knowledge about the Chargers opponents or if he was just rude. It was the most bizarre announcing of a game that I’ve ever heard. On the positive side, the women’s bathroom did not have a line at all, even during halftime. The designers of the stadium definitely did some thing right.

NO FOOD AFTER THE THIRD QUARTER???

by Whitwag on 10/26/22SoFi Stadium - Inglewood

I love the stadium and my club level seats were amazing. But why did the food places close at the end of the third quarter? Of the four places, three closed...DELI, BBQ, and BURGERS. Only BAJA was open. WHY?

    Beautiful stadium

by Larry M on 10/4/22SoFi Stadium - Inglewood

First time at SoFi. Beautiful stadium. Concessionaires we’re all super nice. Only complaint is that no one new exactly where to guide us to guest services. 22 different people had 12 answers and none were correct. Finally a gentleman with a walk-in talkie walked us half way around the stadium to the correct place.

    Nice venue but tight seats

    by M. J. on 9/28/22SoFi Stadium - Inglewood

Great venue, it’s very fancy and I love the open air concept. But it gets really hot inside with a glass roof and the seats are extremely narrow if you’re not sitting in the 100 level seats. Worth going but be prepared to leave sore

    The parking lot is terrible!

by Disapointed on 9/20/22SoFi Stadium - Inglewood

After tailgating we all had to be funneled on to a bridge into and out of the stadium. People were very rude and justifyibly upset. Not to mention there seems to be NO ventelation in the 500 seating area.

Good views everywhere but no AC!

by Lee M on 9/14/22SoFi Stadium - Inglewood

Seems you’ll have a great view wherever you sit but there’s no AC and the clear roof kinda creates a greenhouse effect. There’s two openings on each end of the stadium to allow a breeze through. Unfortunately on this ridiculously hot day.. there was no breeze! Other than that, great to see the Chargers win against the Raiders. FTR!
