The theatre management was terrible. Late Patrons were seated 35 minutes into the performance. Seats were swapped at random. The ushers did not do their due diligence. many folks seated around us were extremely upset.
When buying a ticket you get a preview of the seats that you are going to purchase, and a seat number. That is why different seating options are available eitherwise random seating would be offered upon ticket purchase. Upon arrival there was some confusion with the seating from the ushers at the Dolby theatre "I just started seating people randomly anywhere". I knew then I would not be getting the seats I paid for. We were seated good seats with a view similar to what I purchased, we then lost those seats/ours at intermission. So then my friend, and I took the next open seats available as someone was in our seats, and we did not want any trouble. We were then kicked out of those seats by a woman with a child on her lap, because her daughter could not see, and she didn't bring her a booster seat or possibly buy her an actual seat they were full... as she cried "I cant see I cant see " my friend, and I ended up sitting at the end of the row in terrible seats next to the stairs. Nothing compared to the seats I had purchased. My friend had been in The Nutcracker ballet years ago so she was looking forward to a different perspective as an audience member/guest, and it was my first time going. As for the ballet itself the stage was very barren as far as dancers/props on the stage. It really missed the mark as well as far as costume design goes it was really underwhelming. Mediocre at best. There was an overall lack of pageantry so the show itself did not seem like there was much effort put in... You're better off staying home watching Nutcracker motion picture (1986).
I have been taking my Mom to see LA Ballet's The Nutcracker at the Dolby for many years since it is performed there with a live orchestra. We enjoy the music so much as well as the revolving cast members.
Should not allow people to come in 30 mins late it is disruptive to the audience and performance otherwise the show was great!!!!
The show was amazing. I love that you get a great view whenever you are sitting. The love music was absolutely my favorite part and just amazing. ONLY annoyance was they kept allowing large groups of late people during the performance. The ushers were loud in trying to assist them finding their seats which was very distracting. Other than that, the show was great.
I expected nothing less from this ballet! It was wonderfully festive and just beautifully done.

This was my first time at the Dolby Theater and first time at the ballet! Loved it! Great holiday experience with my family. The orchestra was terrific. The performance was magical! And the venue was beautiful!
Disappointing. Bad choreography, uninspired costumes and set. The orchestra were great but the sound quality was bad. Overall a giant miss
The performances were great. Going to the Nutcracker is a great family tradition. It introduces kids and all members to all the features of ballet that make it a special art. The Dolby Theater however sucks. Even though we had a live orchestra, it was fed through lousy speakers. The sound quality was abysmal which was super ironic considering it’s named after Dolby.
AMAZING performance. I will be back for the next one.
My lady could not take the stairs to the seats I had booked, so the staff moved us to third row, center, orchestra. We were so close to the stage we could hear the sound of ballet slippers on wood floor. The performance was awesome.The orchestra perfect. The dancers wonderful. The Nutcracker is the gift I give ourselves for Christmas, we have attended a performance at other venues for the past four Christmas's, this was the best. The staff is so friendly, even the parking staff was so helpful, everything about our experience was wonderful. I highly recommend the Nutcracker at the Dolby for next year.
After seeing the LA Ballet in the Nutcracker during the Christmas season of 2019, I was so touched & moved to tears -- couldn't wait to go for the first time since the Pandemic on 12/22 at the Dolby Theatre. It was such a let-down. It just lacked professionalism, and was almost slapstick. The costuming, choreography and timing were all lackluster and the second half felt rushed. I found out from one of the musicians riding down to our parking that the Conductor had walked off right before the performance. It's our tradition, but I definitely will not attend another LA Ballet performance.
We've seen The Nutcracker many times & feel this Ballet Company one wasn't up to par.
The ballet was face paced and so much fun. Amazing all around.
The show was superb, the venue was hopelessly unorganized. The show was supposed to start at 2. Instead, it started at 2:16. People kept coming in long after the show started. Some late comers completely blocked our view for a good couple of minutes because they could not see well in the dark to be seated promptly. Someone was arguing in the back row over a seart All this happened at around 2:30. When the show starts, doors must be closed. Our tickets and Ticketmaster said 2-3:30. The show ended at 4:10!! Parking was another issue. There are limited pay machines and ridiculously long lines.
I really enjoyed the ballet, however, i thought the venue was a liitle small. The performers were great and without errors. The female soloist gave a great performance, however, brought me back to reality.
We try to see the Nutcracker every year and this production was one of the best. From the beautiful sets to the choreography to the performers it was a totally engaging production.
The ballet and orchestra were supreme. The inside of the venue was beautiful. However, the logistics were severely lacking. There was absolutely no way for us to get any drinks. The drinking fountains are shut off and the line for the concessions was so slow that we never made it to the front during intermission. Try handing out free water at the start. That would really help. Also, the parking machines for paying were not working.
We always love the Nutcracker at Christmas and I’ve seen different productions in NY and LA. We found this show to be one of the best! The costume and set design was top notch and was wat made it so special. The two lead ballerinas were also breath taking. Loved it!!!
