It was a beautiful show! One of our favorite every year. The costumes! The dancing! We love it all!
A Masterpiece done in a Masterful way. Set design gorgeous, especially at end of first act. Fantastic orchestral support and of course, one great dance after another.
A truly delightful production. Choreography was wonderful. The use of Children through made it more relatable to the kids in the audience. Having a live orchestra enhanced the richness of the music and made a world of difference overall. Dancers were good to great. Only the set design was subpar.
Parking self pay machines were broken 1 out of 2 on each floor Should have better system
Well done! The snow at the end of the first act was magical. The dancing top notch. Wardrobe very creative and considerate. The venue here was also very tall, with impressive acoustics.
It’s hard to believe how disrespectful the audience was and that ushers were letting people in even 40 minutes after curtain. I was honestly a little disappointed by the entire production with dancers faltering, unimpressive lighting, sets and costumes.
We loved it and plan on going again next year. Beautiful sets, excellent dancers and costumes. Loved seeing so many people in the audience dressed up as well.
We felt this was the best performance we have seen with great costumes, much more humor and excellent dancers. I usually feel a little bored with the first half but not with this production. I loved the life sized nutcracker who was fun to watch and there wasn't the conflict with brother/sister. The rats were so funny and adult size while the toy soldiers were kids and the "conflict"was more entertaining and not scary. It was overall a total delight. I am so impressed with the LAB.
I REALLY don't want to recomand this show to others the ballet was AWFUL and the show doesn't make any sense the stage was awkward and I believe it was slippery because one of the snowflakes slipped while dancing. there wern't many dancers in the stage so their performance wasn't grand at all. I got really confused about the whole nut cracker universe because the story didn't make sense that much and the original story isn't shown correctly the show isn't nutcracker any more they started in the house and all the kids were already in there even when it has to start outside and the kids should have been outside coming into the house later! the stange uncle(?) keeps interupting the show and he also interupts the relationship and it bothers me as if micky and minnie is dating privately and goofy trying to interupt them the show is full of awkward things and I cannot agree that the show took any effort.
We loved the venue, parking was tight below the theatre, and the ovation shopping center was so festive at Christmas with live performers. The Dolby theatre was very beautiful, the staff and door attendants were all very pleasant, smiling, and helpful! The performance was awesome too!
We enjoyed the LA Ballet Nutcracker for the most part. The dancers are very talented. Our Clara shined on stage, I wish her choreography showed off her talent better with a solo as the tree grew. Snow was performed beautifully and did not disappoint. The second act lacked fairyland magic due to the bland backdrop and costumes. However, the dancing was superb, especially the breathtaking Arabian. 12/21
I went with my family to th Nutcracker, intended as a Christmas gift for all of us. And we were all delighted. The experience was amazing. I asked everyone if they enjoyed it and they all agreed that we would do it again.
A must see for all ages! Amazing performance. The Dolby is awesome.
Great scenery, props, staging, etc. Very traditional, as I like it. Great dancers, as to be expected with the LA Ballet. The orchestra was pretty good most of the time, and at times good. But there were a few sour notes here and there, which is a little surprising given the pool of instrumental talent in LA. (Maybe they went cheap on what they paid and thus couldn't get more stronger players?) And the amplification was weird: lots of reverberation, like the sound was really far away. Still, live music always creates a more authentic experience. All in all, enjoyable and I would attend again next year.
The ballet was spectacular, specially the second part. Dancers and scenario were great I enjoy it.
Just an incredible evening with LAB. Staff at Dolby was super efficient and polite.
A very disappointing experience. The venue was disorganized, the temperature inside was much too hot, the performance was weak - dad costumes, tired dancers.
Great dancers, interesting stage direction, was an enjoyable time. Nothing wowed me that much, no dancer really stood out, but they are all very good.
We have seen the L A Ballet perform The Nutcracker once before, and it is a strong company with versatile and engaging performers. The choreographer has also adapted the story and some of the choreography to an LA setting and to remove some ethnic and cultural stereotypes that society no longer accepts. Some of the new elements make sense to a Southern California, family audience, and some don't, such as replacing the bound-foot Chinese character dancers with The Harlequin and his Columbina. Huh? First, what is a harlequin? Most of us have had little exposure to comedia dell arte (sp.) and second, the new choreography is dull and doesn't fit the music. The harlequin is often portrayed as an acrobat. How about using that? I know this because I looked up "Harlequin" in Wikipedia, after the show. The venue. We had seats in the fourth-to-last row in the upper balcony, but still had a great view. However, late comers were admitted continually through the first act, the later ones left to plow back and forth thru their desired rows with their cell phone lights on. Very distracting, very rude and the ushers should not have allowed it.
Honestly one of the best performances of the Nutcracker Ballet I have ever seen (and I've performed in and seen a lot)! So very special to experience it with a live orchestra and at the Dolby Theatre! The dancing was spectacular and the costumes amazing (especially the snowflakes and mice). I love how they kept with the traditional storyline and choreography but added some fresh new takes -like that it takes place in Los Angeles and the dabbing moves of the mice and the surprise gingerbread mother. The restless little boy sitting next to me said to his mom, "this is the most boring thing ever, when do they talk?" but as soon as the mice came on stage he was memorized and when the snow scene began he was quiet and entranced from then on. I will be making this a tradition!
