  • The Best: Lizz Wright

There is no one better out there than Lizz Wright! I can listen to her 24/7...

  • Mesmerizing Underexposed Talent

by Enigmas on 4/8/10Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

I'd spend over a $100 to see her perform—what a gift at less than half the cost! Lizz Wright is beyond the real deal—sultry, rich, powerful vocals coupled with an enchanting stage presence that draws her audience into an experience that you wish would never end. In the past six months, next to Maxwell performance, she is second to none in the industry. Her sound is timeless and I reach for it when I need a warm caress. Looking forward to seeing her perform over the next 20-30 years.

  • Lizz Wright At the Birchmere

    by Lizz4Life on 4/8/10Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

I first came across Salt during a deployment to Al Asad Air Base, Iraq. Looking at the jewel cover, she reminded me of Tracy Chapman. While listening to the CD I instantly became a fan. “As Soon as I Get Home” touched my heart over and over again. Her music is so real, yet romantic. When I returned home I searched the internet for her concert locations. Sadly, she was not performing near my home. I wanted to fly to ATL in May 07 to see her, but my wide disagreed. On Jan 22, 2010 Ticket Master’s notification indicated that Lizz would be at the Birchmere on April 7th. I quickly purchased tickets. Last night my wife and I enjoyed her live performance. Her demeanor was so mature and her personality is so fitting for her profession. Of course the musician opened the concert. They presented so much talent and emitted so much love for their craft. Lizz’s voice brought tears to my ears as I sat next to my wife, amazed of her performance of “Old Man”. She easily transitioned as she sang a well developed selection of songs. On a scale of 1 – 10, I give her performance an 11.

  • Transcendant Lizz Wright

by BuffaloJohnny on 4/8/10Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

Perfect marriage of venue and performer with the Birchmere in NoVa hosting Lizz Wright Wed April 7th. This Georgia-raised chanteuse spilled rich tones, both delicate and deep, from an impossibly relaxed, lithe physique (1st time seeing her live; there was love between us, I'm sure!). Her instrument was in control throughout the evening, and in so doing allowed the packed crowd to relax as one might normally be able to in the privacy of own home/screen porch on a hot summer's night with Lizz on the (insert your music gizmo provider). Ms. Wright's (yes! - an adult at barely 30 years old!) approach assumes a certain maturity going into the experience. Her easy sophistication, style and sense of inclusion of musical forms would charm just about anyone who is feeling "dumbed down" by all too much popular music currently. From the ethereal atmospherics that accompanied her bend of Neil Young's "Old Man" which opened the show, to the sparse stride/rag infused -set of "sacred songs" at show's mid-point, all the way through to shows "done already?" closing numbers, this was simply a delightful 90+ minutes with a woman who deserves to be heard by more, but you almost hope remains what you feel her following thinks of her: As in juicy gossip, told well, LIzz Wright allows her audience to feel intimately involved in a secret that might be spoiled if too many find out.

  • Simply an amazing performance

by Dandelion on 4/8/10Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

I have been to a lot of concerts in my time, but never have I been so filled with joy and peace as I was last night at the Lizz Wright concert. She is simply a wonderful songbird that brings her spiritual essence and bright light into the atmosphere, that all you can do is surrender to the power of her voice and captivating smile. The words of the music are just the tip of the volcanic energy that exuberates from this beautiful and talented woman. It is a true blessing to witness the gift that God gave her and how she maintains the old-school music style...no smoke and mirrors, just down right AWESOME SINGING! PRAISE GOD FROM WHOM ALL BLESSINGS FLOW...keep flowing Lizz, keep flowing!!!

  • What a beautiful, soulful singer

by Chocolatinha on 4/8/10Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

Lizz Wright is such a versatile singer/songwriter. Her renditions of Neil Young's, Old Man (take a look at yourself...) and Amazing Grace were heartfelt and gorgeous. She can sing gospel, country, folk, rock, jazz and any mixture thereof. Her own compositions are the most precious like Stop, Hit the Ground, My Heart, Speak your Heart and Wake Up LIttle Sparrow (although she did not sing the last song- it is one of my favorites). Her voice is soulful in every sense of the word. Thoroughtly enjoyed her concert.

  • New Material Needed

by DonofDC on 4/8/10Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 3 out of 5

The voice is magnificent to listen to. However, the music is not new and needs new material badly. Electric guitar and bass are too much. Accoustical guitar and bass 100% better. Those who have never heard her live, loved the program. This was my third time in three years and I was very disappointed and even bored at times.

  • Simply Amazing

    by Mus1cl0v3r2 on 4/8/10Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

Simply Amazing. What a beautiful voice, wrapped up in a beautiful spirit. Last night was the first time that I have seen Lizz perform in person, and it was truly a treat. It will not be my last time.

I've always been a huge Lizz fan. Nothing could have prepared me for the show I witnessed last night. She and her band are in total sync. She is a goddess - body, mind and soul. The band couldn't have been more solid and her voice penetrates your every being. If you're a fan you should not miss an opportunity to see her perform live. Her artistry shines through her vocals, body language and stage presence.

  • YLizz Wright

You could feel the soul of the words as she sang them. She made the words living breathing organisms and they floated through out the room. Her voice is a gift from God.

  • Lizz Wright was Awesome

by mibrsa on 4/8/10Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

Simply one of the best concerts I have attended. Her vocals were strong, crisp, and great range. Her passion for her craft is easily recognizable. I was impressed with her range of music, jazz, gospel, country. In a world where reward often exceeds talent it is refreshing to see someone as talented as Lizz Wright. I often measure singers by how they sound in person compared to their CD's. In Lizz Wright's case she sounded even better in person.

  • Lizz Wright is always enchanting!

by LAinthePQ on 4/8/10Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 4 out of 5

This is my second Lizz Wright experience at the Birchmere. It's the perfect, quaint venue for her style of performance. Lizz's vocal interpretations are wonderfully enchanting. Nevertheless, they were presented much LOUDER than necessary in such an intimate space. She truly needs an exceptional sound technician to highlight the beauty and depth of her voice.

  • Lizz was in perfect form

by fanar on 4/8/10Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

This woman was fantastic. Her musical attributes and maturity have soared. This child can moan like none other. She was great. What a pleasurable evening. I wish she would come back more often.

  • LIZZ at Birchmere was AMAZING!!!

by figatree on 4/8/10Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

The venue was ok but it allowed for a personal feel with the artist and her band. The performance was spectacular and I cant say enough words about how it was just a real down home environment where you can see Lizz and her awesome band. I loved it from beginning to end and would suggest her to anyone on the planet that hasnt heard this wonderful songstress sing!!!

  • The Most Amazing Vocalist!!

by Sneed on 11/24/09Luckman Fine Arts Complex - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

I have every Lizz Wright album and I find her music moving, thoughtful and inspirational. Her live performance exceeded my lofty expectations. Lizz is very personable and engaged with the audience often. Her voice is pitch-perfect. The set had great balance of uptempo and ballads. I will not miss Lizz in concert in the futre!

Introduced to Lizz at this year's Monterey Jazz Festival (CA) I had to find out where, and when she was performing in the So Cali area; she did not disappoint. Lizz and her band was, and is AMAZING. Her concerts are not just a performance, it's an EXPERIENCE like no other; it's original, soulful, spirital, and afterwards, you feel very uplifted, joyful...May God continue to use of gift of singing to bless many others...
