Lizz Wright was luminous and lovely sharing the spot light...audience varied and very enthusiatic
Great collaboration on each others songs. Great show! Gave 4 stars because I didn't want the show to end!
What an experience! I went there expecting that Midon was the opening act and that Wright would be the "main act". So when they both got on stage together, I was a little confused...lol. But it turned out to be quite a pleasant surprise. Their voices complemented each other SO perfectly! Every single song they performed (whether from her album or his album) was AMAZING! I'm still in awe...
I have always been a fan of both artists, and their performances Tuesday night just proves why. Their voices are so rich and blend so well. What a wonderful evening!!!
Amazing Concert I was surprised they preformed each others songs as a duet.
It is always refreshing to go to a concert at a venue where the performers are TRUE musicians....their voice is their instrument. The Birchmere Music House in Alexandria, Virginia is a PERFECT venue. Not too big, not too small. We were pleasantly surprised when they BOTH walked out onstage to perform for just over 90 minutes. I am HUGE fans of both and wish they would collaborate on a CD with both their voices!
This is about the 4th time I've seen Lizz live. The first time I saw her was at the Blue Note in NYC and Norah Jones was in the audience and had come to see Lizz. Lizz has a phenomenal voice and an eclectic range. Her low profile is evidence that the music industry is less about talent and more about marketability
Lizz as usual was incredible, in great voice and well worth the cost of the ticket. The music flowed and she connected to every song yet I would have preferred to hear more of the music from her first three works than the last. It all fit in perfectly I simply missed hearing Salt and had hoped for A taste of Honey, yet understand that she has so much music now that it is impossible to give all the people everything they want (which is why we purchase her music). Love her and will be looking for the next concert and cd.
This event was awesome.....Lizz and her band has great chemistry...she has a beautiful way of expressing her music. Lizz is unique, soulful, spiritual, country, classy, fun, & energetic! ....it was truly a wonderful evening celebrating my birthday!!!! A little something for everyone! I will see Lizz tonight in Augusta, Ga!!!!!
I love every show of hers I see! She is beautiful, peaceful, and has amazing musicianship. I can't wait to see her again!
I loved it! Her voice is so powerful, pure and amazing! The Birchmere is an awesome venue and a great way to see a concert. I can't wait to catch Lizz again or other acts that I"m looking forward to seeing up close one day.
My husband and I have been a fan of Lizz for a number of years but have never had the chance to see her in concert. Wow, what we were missing! I know that I do not have words to describe how amazing she and her band were. Very powerful performance, her recordings do not do her justice. There is an energy that she has that you do not get from a CD, the audience was really into every song and I think she fed off that and the audience sensed it. I've seen other artists in concert and you don't always get that vibe. She seems like a genuinely happy person and it showed in her performance! And to see her in a smaller venue such as the Birchmere was a real treat. It's just a shame that their food is over priced and not all that great. I do get that they are trying to feed hundreds of people in a short time but that's not a great excuse; they do it every day.
What a wonderful night! Lizz Wright is an extraordinary singer whose vocals are soulful, joyful and yet so relaxed that it's hard to remember that her performance goes virtually non-stop for over 90 minutes. Her obvious love of song and singing amplify the already high-quality of her performance. She includes the audience without distracting from its enjoyment of her performance, which is, after all, what you pay to hear.
Liz Wright is not just an amazingly talented musician and singer, she feels the music with her entire being. This was aparent during her concert at the Birchmere last Friday. She not only embodied the songs but she brought the entire audience along for the ride. Not many singers have a voice as deep and powerful as Wright, but even fewer bring such depth of emotion to their performance. Add to that a group of four highly talented colaborators and you end up with a truely memorable evening of music performed at the highest level.
I saw her in 2005, missed her in subsequent years, but was so happy I went this year. My husband enjoyed it too. Loved the band (new band it seems) and yes, she is just Wright!
Lizz Wright's performance was one of style, grace, elegance and soul. She has an awesome future as a stylish jazz singer.
The mark of a true artist...they sound better in person than their recordings. Lizz is definitely one of these FEW! This concert transported me to a warm nurturing place that enveloped my whole sprit in love. Her voice is like the Balm of Gilead. I sat down stressed and left flying high.
I thought Lizz Wright was fantastic!!! Her voice was even better live than on her CDs. My only disappointment is that she didn't sing more songs from the SALT cd.
I was not familiar with Lizz Wright prior to seeing her at this performance. My wife and I went with our daughter who knew of her music and had seen her perform in New York. Lizz now has two new fans.
