About

LIZA MINNELLI IN CONCERT:

As long as Liza Minnelli continues to cast her spell over captivated concertgoers, life will remain a cabaret, ol' chum. Nearly 50 years after she made her stage debut, the Broadway legend turned Hollywood superstar remains an indefatigable performer, thrilling fans around the world with nostalgic performances of beloved classics like "New York, New York" and "Say Liza (Liza with a 'Z')." Following a string of critically acclaimed 2013 performances alongside Cabaret co-star Alan Cumming, Liza has fans busting down box office doors for tickets to her coveted 2014 tour dates, which include a lushly orchestrated appearance alongside the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the city's iconic Walt Disney Concert Hall.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

The daughter of Judy Garland and Vincente Minnelli, Liza is Hollywood royalty by birth, appearing in her first film at age three. Far from relying on her pedigree, Liza trained extensively as a child, achieving success on her own terms with her considerable talents as an actress, singer, and performer. Following several major roles in the late '60s, Liza launched to international superstardom for her portrayal of Sally Bowles in Bob Fosse's 1972 smash Cabaret, taking home the Oscar for Best Actress. A laundry list of successful films, albums, and television specials followed, cementing her role as one of the most enduring icons in American popular culture.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"The show was just so Liza. She was everything you ever want to see in an artist. She pays attention to detail, tells stories, and makes it her own."

"The show was absolutely amazing. Liza still can sing , move and crack jokes as if she was 35."

"Liza with a Z is still on top of her game. At 67, her energy, vocals, humor, and pizzazz light up the stage."

Liza was amazing. I do wish that people would learn theater etiquette! Too much talking and screaming inappropriately even to the point where her piano player had to signal to stop!

    LIZA was fabulous!!!!

by Jamzlyn on 7/27/15IP Casino Resort and Spa - Biloxi

Knowing her history and that she isn't the girl she once was and couldn't "bust a move" across the stage anymore. I knew that I wasn't going to see her dancing and moving a lot due to her hip and back surgeries. But I did know that her voice was still going to be there and I was going to love hearing her sing. And I did!!! She was very impressive and put on a fabulous performance for her history. I am so glad that she was in good health to be able to make it and give it her all. I was especially glad that I got to enjoy it with my dearest friends - who are bigger fans - and see the light in their eyes. A great weekend was had by all. Thanks again to LIZA with a "Z" not Lisa with an "S" for giving it her all! We love her!!!

    Legend is the Correct Term

by Boomerchild on 7/27/15IP Casino Resort and Spa - Biloxi

Liza Minnelli came "back" with a vengeance on Friday night before a sell-out crowd. Nothing short of a "love-fest" where she could do no wrong. Billy Stritch opened the show with 4 or 5 great tunes, then LIza came out & did 90 minutes without a break - Truly amazing. Great set list, good mix of her standards, as well as some more obscure tunes, but whatever she did, she had the audience in her hands. Sure, she can't hit all the "big" notes anymore, & she forgot some lyrics, but all was forgiven instantly by her adoring fans. We helped her with lyrics, gave her at least 10 standing ovations though the concert, & one of the longest ovations for an encore I had ever been a part of. Eerily, if you looked the right way, in the right light, she looked to be channeling her mother - hand gestures, body language, etc.Liza would never consciously imitate Judy, I'm sure, but I almost felt like I was at Judy's legendary show at Carnegie Hall. Truly an amazing evening.

    Liza minnelli

by reidistoocute on 7/27/15IP Casino Resort and Spa - Biloxi

This is where Liza needed to open. The common man will think her voice is gone, she can't can't dance, forgot some words but she was Liza!!! That's all we wanted was to see Liza & boy did she deliver!!!! She wasn't her young self, she aged as her audience did. She reminded us of our youth & we reminded her of hers. Whenever Liza is anywhere near New Orleans I will go see her. She is after all Liza Minnelli! !!!

worst concert we've been to. Missed notes, forgotten lines tried to cover by coughing. Slouched in a chair almost the entire show. had to restart numbers. Very sad to witness. She should retire now before she totally humiliates herself

Liza Minnelli Charms Davies Symphony Hall

by Fiend4Music on 4/19/14Davies Symphony Hall - San Francisco

In my efforts to see the legends before they leave us I saw Liza Minnelli at Davies Symphony Hall. She did not perform with the symphony but rather her own band. I had wondered how she would do considering how fragile she had looked at The Oscars. Liza walked out in her signature black pants and off the shoulder top. She had a very long red scarf that almost touched the ground. There were times I was concerned she would step on the scarf and fall. Thankfully this never happened. She started the first song center stage and then walked over to the piano, which moved a bit when she leaned on it. She made a comment about it, which made the audience laugh. She dragged her director’s chair to center stage and sat down. I couldn’t believe she didn’t have someone to do this for her, but maybe it was part of her shtick. Again I was concerned that long scarf was going to be an issue. I thought she might choke herself with it as she sat down. Finally her piano player took the scarf and placed in on the piano. For the most part Liza’s voice was solid, but she did struggle with some of the big notes. She would pause to take a drink of water before trying to hit the notes saying she wanted to really hit it for us. While she didn’t hit them she definitely entertained and charmed the audience with her performance.

    Liza was charming

Liza was great. Fun, fun, fun from the moment she stepped on the stage(standing ovation) to when she exited the stage (standing ovation).

She can still belt 'em out!

by LoveLiza on 3/29/14Walt Disney Concert Hall - Los Angeles

I'd never seen Liza perform live before and finally had a chance to see her. Her rabid fans (most of the folks there) jumped to their feet and gave her a standing ovation. More standing ovations followed, with the last one - the longest - at the end of her performance. Everyone left happy that they'd seen her.

    LIZA STILL HAS IT!

by Billandthebears on 3/29/14Walt Disney Concert Hall - Los Angeles

Forget the image you saw of Liza at the Oscars...she was ALIVE and VERY WELL at the Walt Disney Concert Hall. Given her recent birthday of 68 years...she STILL has the stamina and can "sell a song" like no one else! She always maintains that self-deprecating sense of humor...and judging by the crowd...most of us can identify with her ailments to one degree or another. Put that aside...she was in GREAT VOICE and was "obviously" having a great time! YOU COULD FEEL THE ENERGY...ALL POSITIVE! She sang every song that you love...and her personal favorite, MAYBE THIS TIME! Oh my stars and garters, she kept the audience enthralled with each deft interpretation of the lyrics. You feel like you're "getting the message" for the very first time! BRAVO LIZA...you keep going! Your Momma would (and is) very proud of you and so are WE!

    Simply Liza

by Dickythepoo77 on 3/28/14Walt Disney Concert Hall - Los Angeles

Unfortunately Liza is having problems breathing. She made every attempt to put on an outstanding show but her inability to catch her breath hampered her greatly and therefore her voice was not up to par. Liza with a z is an amazing lady who at one time was an outstanding performer.

    Simply Liza

by Disappointed5678 on 3/28/14Walt Disney Concert Hall - Los Angeles

Unfortunately, Liza has lost it. As much as she tried, the pipes are not there any more. She was huffing and puffing. After every song, people around me were saying she needed oxygen. She had to stop several time on her signature song to catch her breath, get a drink or rest. It made me very anxious and uncomfortable to see her struggle like that. God Bless her for trying but this was tough to watch..... Sorry

    She is still great

by Arrooh on 3/28/14Walt Disney Concert Hall - Los Angeles

She doesn't dance like she used to, and she doesn't hit the higher notes so well, but she still puts so much into her songs and is riveting to watch.

    Fabulous Entertainer!

by TravelJunkie247 on 3/28/14Walt Disney Concert Hall - Los Angeles

Liza is pure talent. The kind that you're born with. She looked amazing. She offered quite the show. It was non-stop for an hour and 45 minutes. Had she doubled that the audience would have still stayed.

    disappointing

by hotwheelqt on 3/11/14Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center - Ft Lauderdale

Had waited a lifetime to see Liza and was shocked and surprised to see she was doing one concert while we were on vacation in Miami for our anniversary. Had seen her on Queen Latifa show advertising her upcoming tour (one concert in Florida--then a month later another somewhere else hardly makes a tour). She didn't seem well on TV. It was even worse in person. She said that she hurt her foot at the pool that day and need to sit down for the concert. We couldn't care less if she sat the entire time---cause she started out sounding AMAZING. But as the concert went forward, she made excuse after excuse about sitting, seemed confused, DRUGGED and very very out of it. I kept thinking, why isn't she stopping to drink any water? And the last quarter of the concert she paid for that---she had to continually stop, drink water, wasn't able to finish songs without long breaks in between----it was unbearable uncomfortable for the audience who loves her. She is too far gone to come back and that is truly truly a shame because the first part of the concert---she sounded AMAZING. Even better in person than on CD. What a waste of amazing talent. It left us feeling sad and that we'd watched a legend who was just too far past her time and nobody around to tell her 'don't do it'. Her band, however, was UNREAL. She clearly had the best of the best on stage with her including her long-time piano player.
