About

From rock to country to opera, there's hardly a genre that 11-time Grammy winner and multi-award nominee Linda Ronstadt hasn't tackled with tremendous success. When Ronstadt performs live in concert, fans get a dynamic singer with a powerful voice that could shatter glass. Tickets to her tours sold out repeatedly as she broke all kinds of gender barriers, proving that a woman could hold her own in male-dominated rock and roll. Tucson-native Ronstadt met guitarist Bob Kimmel in college. With him and another guitarist, Kenny Edwards, she formed The Stone Ponies, a folk-rock trio with an ultra-hip California sound.

After experimenting with a variety of styles, she settled on a soft, country rock sound that became her signature style for many years. With the release of 1974's "Heart Like a Wheel" – which shot to No. 1 – Ronstadt was off and running, enjoying a slew of hits, such as "You're No Good," "It Doesn't Matter Anymore" and "When Will I Be Loved." These songs made Linda Ronstadt's name synonymous with her sweet vocal style. However, with her career as an interpretive singer, taking covers and transforming them into unique works with a flavor that belonged to her and her alone, Ronstadt ensured her place in the pantheon of great live singers. Her efforts did not go unrewarded. 1977's "Simple Dreams" went to No. 1 as well, winning three Grammys. In 1978, Ronstadt grabbed four of Billboard's top awards across four separate genres. After dazzling listeners in theater, opera and other genres, Ronstadt eventually settled into adult contemporary, a genre that suits her versatile voice perfectly. She continued to receive the industry's highest accolades for her vocal work across the field, her many collaborative efforts and her influential place in music history as a truly groundbreaking female artist.

This event was as advertised to be evening with Linda & nothing was mentioned about all Mexican music & mostly Mariachis preforming. I did not pay to see them & dancers. Linda's voice is fantastic and should get with David Foster & Clive Davis & step away from this loud boring & truly monotonous venue. A great talent being overshadowed. She needs to go back to rock, country, jazz, even the classics. Why would she loose herself in this?

Did not know it was in Spanish Only

We had no clue that the show was Spanish. We thought it would be her old music...not happy with the event.

worst show I have ever gone to

by sstro on 11/8/09San Antonio Municipal Auditorium - San Antonio

this was not an evening with Linda Rondstadt but an evening with the Mariachi Band! Linda sang about 30 minutes total. She did not sing any of her old music....only Mariachi music. That is not how it was promoted on the radio. I spent $200 on music and words that I could not understand. VERY, VERY disappointed.

If you want to hear linda, I wouldn't recommend her event - she came out an hour after the show started and sang ten minutes went off stage came back ten minutes later and sang again for ten minutes and again walked off. She sang, maybe, thirty minutes. I rated fair because the dancers and mariachis were great.

    She was Awesome

by dapinga on 11/8/09San Antonio Municipal Auditorium - San Antonio

I enjoyed the concert between her singing, the Mariachis, and the dancers it was fabulous. I even overheard a comment by someone close by wondering why she was singing in Spanish when she used to sing in English. The music inspires our culture the songs are recognized by the people.

    Mariachi made the show

by dsaenzsr on 11/8/09San Antonio Municipal Auditorium - San Antonio

Lind is showing her age. She came out in a non-inspiring blue skirt and jacket with the "Virgen de Guadalupe" on the back. She needed to stick to the flavor of the Mariachi music and history. None of us look like we did in the late eighties but Linda could do more to liven up the show. Her personal demeanor was too reserved. Her "Canciones de Mi Padre" several years ago did that and it was great. Linda's voice is showing her age too. She missed a couple of notes and her voice broke during a couple of longer note "holds." Quite a few empty seats in the $70 areas. Would have been nice to have been shifted over to these seats before the show started.

    Never More Sad or Disappointed

by FormerCustomer on 11/8/09San Antonio Municipal Auditorium - San Antonio

We paid over $200 to hear Linda Ronstadt singing in ENGLISH. The entire program was in SPANISH! We don't speak Spanish. The title of the event was completely misleading. After checking postings in other cities, there are many who feel as we do. Where was the good stuff? I was so distraught that I honestly cried all the way home. What a GIGANTIC DISAPPOINTMENT! I'm not knocking anyone's culture, it's just not what we paid to see. We left before she even came on stage. We listened to an hour of her singing in Spanish before the event even started, presumably from one of her CDs they were selling in the lobby. That was it for us. Where is our old Linda!!!??? It was NOT An Evening with Linda Ronstadt.

    L. Rondstadt's Canciones de Mi Padre

by SanDinas on 11/8/09San Antonio Municipal Auditorium - San Antonio

Sadly, Linda's voice is not what it used to be. She was clearly straining to hit those notes that were distinctively hers in all her recordings. After singing two songs, she'd have to exit the stage for a couple of numbers while the Mariachi Group and Folklorico dancers performed. (Nice, but we paid to see Linda) The most impressive part of the show was the Mariachi Group, which was outstanding. Not hard to believe that they've won two Grammys.

by Antoinette on 11/8/09The Midland by AMC - Kansas City

My husband and I enjoyed the concert even though we do not speak Spanish. Her personality and genuine warmth was present throughout the evening whether she was speaking to the audience in English or singing to us in Spanish!

    Linda - 18 years later

by Raquelina on 11/8/09San Antonio Municipal Auditorium - San Antonio

I remember attending Linda's Canciones de Mi Padre show at the Majestic Theatre (18 years ago?) It was amazing, magical, colorful, and packed with high energy. All the voices were tuned, every move was rehearsed and flawless, every costume selected carefully. Fast forward to last night. Linda delivered her songs with the powerful voice we love and were craving to hear. She had some difficulty hitting and holding some notes and the right key. Her outfit was boring. Her energy level was very low and it appeared that she really did not want to be there. I guess this can be attributed to her illnesses. I am still glad that I went and I enjoyed the few songs she sang. The mariachis were amazing and the dancers were delightful. Linda did mention this was her last concert. I wish her well and thank her for the beautiful songs which will live on in our hearts forever.

    An evening with Linda Rondstadt

by GonzKC on 11/7/09The Midland by AMC - Kansas City

The evening was memorable...it gave me a chance to share with my children the music that their grandparents loved so much. It was an evening the whole family will remember and it helped my children feel closer to the grandparents that they never got to know.........

Did not know entire program was in Spanish!

by Anonymous on 11/6/09The Midland by AMC - Kansas City

Love Linda - actually drove 5 hours to hear her; however, we were TOTALLY UNAWARE that the program would be entirely in Spanish. That information should have published. Had no idea that it was a benefit until we visited with those sitting around us. Glad for the school, but not for us.

    All Spanish...Who Knew???

by Briggle on 11/6/09The Midland by AMC - Kansas City

No notification was give that this was a concert totally in Spanish. Imagine my dismay to discover all performances were 100% in Spanish, which I do not speak nor understand. She did not perform any of the songs made famous throughout her career, nor sing even one song in English. I checked my tickets and there was no indication on the tickets nor during the purchase process. Had I known in advance I would not have bought these tickets. I do not blame Linda for this, but, think the theater or ticket master should have made clear to the public that the concert would be appropriate for those speaking or understanding Spanish.

Go See Her If You Can !!!

by LindaFanFromWayBack on 11/6/09The Midland by AMC - Kansas City

Linda Ronstadt can be best described as "class and talent"". She speaks and sings from the heart. She has aged with grace. Everything about her show and those who performed with her was all about the art and the passion and the preservation of Mexican cultural heritage. It was vocally, instrumentally, and visually stunning! You won't be disappointed.

    Linda Ronstadt was forgettable

by DEEET on 11/6/09The Midland by AMC - Kansas City

while one could appreciate the Mexican musicians, many people did not realize this show was done in Spanish. I paid over $100.00 per ticket to understand nothing about the performance. We left eraly disappointed and will never be back

    Linda and Mariachis

by volver1 on 11/6/09The Midland by AMC - Kansas City

The Mariachis were amazing.... singing voices that would give any opera singer a run for their money! Linda's voice was so strong and clear.... gave me chills! The Folklorica reminded us of Mexican River Dance.... just amazing with gorgeous costumers. A wonderful treat and better than I expected! The only drawback was our seating, we were close to stage but on a flat (not tiered) level, a bit hard to see. Would have preferred a balcony seat. If possible, get a raised seat so you can see all the action on stage!

    Linda Rhonstadt

by pella3 on 11/6/09The Midland by AMC - Kansas City

I absolutely enjoyed this production. It was a fantastic tribute to the Hispanic/Mexican culture. The authenticity of the songs, dancers and Mariachi band was a great experience. I wish more children could experience this wonderful rendition of their heritage. Thanks for bringing this to K.C.
