About

From rock to country to opera, there's hardly a genre that 11-time Grammy winner and multi-award nominee Linda Ronstadt hasn't tackled with tremendous success. When Ronstadt performs live in concert, fans get a dynamic singer with a powerful voice that could shatter glass. Tickets to her tours sold out repeatedly as she broke all kinds of gender barriers, proving that a woman could hold her own in male-dominated rock and roll. Tucson-native Ronstadt met guitarist Bob Kimmel in college. With him and another guitarist, Kenny Edwards, she formed The Stone Ponies, a folk-rock trio with an ultra-hip California sound.

After experimenting with a variety of styles, she settled on a soft, country rock sound that became her signature style for many years. With the release of 1974's "Heart Like a Wheel" – which shot to No. 1 – Ronstadt was off and running, enjoying a slew of hits, such as "You're No Good," "It Doesn't Matter Anymore" and "When Will I Be Loved." These songs made Linda Ronstadt's name synonymous with her sweet vocal style. However, with her career as an interpretive singer, taking covers and transforming them into unique works with a flavor that belonged to her and her alone, Ronstadt ensured her place in the pantheon of great live singers. Her efforts did not go unrewarded. 1977's "Simple Dreams" went to No. 1 as well, winning three Grammys. In 1978, Ronstadt grabbed four of Billboard's top awards across four separate genres. After dazzling listeners in theater, opera and other genres, Ronstadt eventually settled into adult contemporary, a genre that suits her versatile voice perfectly. She continued to receive the industry's highest accolades for her vocal work across the field, her many collaborative efforts and her influential place in music history as a truly groundbreaking female artist.

An evening with Linda Ronstadt was minus Linda R.

by Anonymous on 11/10/09San Antonio Municipal Auditorium - San Antonio

Since I was little, I heard Linda Ronstadt, and she was my father's favorite artist. LR came a couple of years to San Antonio, and unfortunately my father was ill, and we were not able to make her concert. We lost my father almost two years ago, and I was excited to see Linda Ronstadt in memory of him. The concert was names an evening LR... well we waited almost 45 minutes for the opening act to intorduce the artist. Ms. Ronstadt then would walk on stage sing 1-2 songs then leave the stage, and so on. I grew up with her spanish songs so I enjoyed them, but was dissapointed that she did not sing anything else. Ms. Ronstadt seemed that she was not that interested in being there as well. The dancers she selected and the Grammy award winning Mariachis she worked with were wonderful!!

    Misleading

by wisemanjro on 11/10/09San Antonio Municipal Auditorium - San Antonio

Linda still has a fine voice. But I think Ticketmaster should have been more descriptive on the event itself. Based on the online description, I had no idea the show was in Spanish. Since I don't speak the language, I wouldn't have paid the money I did to attend.

totally NOT an evening with Linda Ronstandt

by Stunk on 11/9/09San Antonio Municipal Auditorium - San Antonio

The show was not advertised as being a spanish language show. It was titled An Evening with Linda Ronstandt. We paid $100 a seat to see her and saw mariachis and dancers. Her singing spanish I suppose traditional songs. We saw her sing 3 songs and left. Very disappointed and a waste of money.

    Disappointed

by Coop1951 on 11/9/09San Antonio Municipal Auditorium - San Antonio

My wife and I wanted to see Linda Ronstadt and to hear some of her old songs, but to our surprise it was all in Spanish. The problem with that is neither my wife or I speak Spanish. I feel like I was mislead because there was no advertising saying that it was all Spanish. We would not have spent $200.00 if we had known.

    Event was disappointing

by Pesky on 11/9/09San Antonio Municipal Auditorium - San Antonio

I was extremely disappointed with the concert. For a two hour event, Linda Ronstadt was on stage for approximately 45 minutes (and that's being generous). Her Mariachi ensemble performed with more enthusiam and energy than she did. She appeared to be going through the motions of droidly performing her songs and getting them over with. She came out a full hour later than ticket time...Mariachis performed incredibly but if they were her opening act, it should have been stated as such. I kept wondering "When is she coming on?" and when she finally did it was not worth the price or time to attend. She looked as bored as I was, only I wasn't paid for it. People walked out and it was difficult for me to stay through the whole event. Sad. Sad. Sad.

Was expecting her to be in a traditional mexican dress maybe a marachi outfit. Was impressed with the marachi group and the mexican dancers. Linda could have exhibited more enthusiasum.

    Same Voice

by CilSanAntonio on 11/9/09San Antonio Municipal Auditorium - San Antonio

About 20 years ago I saw her perform the same songs from her "Canciones" cd at the Lincoln Center in Washington, DC when I lived there. She was fantastic. This time around she gets 4 stars from me, her voice cracked maybe 2 or 3 times that I could tell, but for the most part she still has the same voice she's always had. The most amazing part is that she can actually sing mexican songs with the expression, the emphasis and the passion necessary that makes us enjoy this music. The mariachi's were wonderful, expecially Mr. Hernandez, the mariachi who Linda chose to serenade her personally. Wow, what a voice indeed. Glad I went to see her sing again, and very happy she included us in her tour. Thanks Linda, from a San Antonio fan. God Bless.

    Felt cheated

by Cruma on 11/9/09San Antonio Municipal Auditorium - San Antonio

My husband and I were very disappointed with the show. The mariachi's (who were very good) sang for about an hour before she started. Then she came on and she didn't even sing for a half hour total. She kept going off stage and they had dancers between every two or sometimes three songs. For the money people paid, she should have at least stayed on stage and sang more. It was more of a mariachi and Mexican show.

    disappointed

by tawonda on 11/9/09San Antonio Municipal Auditorium - San Antonio

I pd for $70. seats expecting to see the same show that was on PBS a few years ago. That show had dancers, picturesque scenes, Danny Valdez, and was very moving. Not all the songs that are on the original were performed. Opening of the Mariachi's was too long. Linda should have at least changed costumes. Very dumpy outfit.

    Excellent

by Kety on 11/9/09San Antonio Municipal Auditorium - San Antonio

The performance was amazing. Los Camperos were absolutely awesome. I loved the folklorico. Most of all Linda Ronstadt's voice is still as vibrant and powerful as ever. She can still belt out those rancheras.

    Linda's energy was lame......

by Ilovelatinmusic on 11/8/09San Antonio Municipal Auditorium - San Antonio

Linda's voice was not as strong as before. Although it was slightly entertaing the dancing was very short during songs. Linda would perfrom 3 short song versions then would leave off stage. She has no outfit changes and sounded tired when she addressed the audience. The mariachi was great and saved the show but people were not there to hear only the mariachis. The seating assigment was poor since there were pleanty of great balcony seating along the front row from end to end. All tickets sold were packed from the center towards the outer sides. We moved to the balcony sides where we had the same view as if we would have been on the floor seating!!

    Acknowledge the Past

by BBee on 11/8/09San Antonio Municipal Auditorium - San Antonio

This woman is a tremendous talent whose career has spanned decades and genres. Llike myself and many others, Linda Ronstadt proudly reclaims her Mexican roots. However, we also share a rock/pop period. I really would have enjoyed hearing some of her earlier pre-Canciones de mi Padre songs. Don;t get me wrong, the show was terrific and very moving. But it would have been perfect with some acknowledment of our rock past.

Althougth, I found the overall performance positive, it would have been nice to know the genre of music that would be performed. I love Linda Ronstadt, but I was expecting to hear a different performance.

    Not as advertised!

by SteveTexas on 11/8/09San Antonio Municipal Auditorium - San Antonio

No where in the listing did it mention that it was mostly going to be mariachis and that all the songs would be in Spanish. Linda Ronstadt sang for about a total of 50 minutes. She did not sing a single song in English. I was utterly disappointed as were a bunch of other people who left in the middle of the show. Don't get me wrong, I know her Spanish songs and like them a lot, but this is not what was advertised on Ticketmaster. The mariachis were great and Linda can still belt them out but not worth the $100+ for the tickets.
