  • Lily Tomlin still has it!

by Magginum on 10/25/10John H. Mulroy Cvc Ctr Theaters at Oncenter Crouse Hinds Theater - SyracuseRating: 4 out of 5

Lily Tomlin's recent performance in Syr NY was great! She reviewed her characters on screen and brought to life some of the most memorable. Lily spoke to current events as well as her up bringing in Detroit. She obviously did a little scouting of the area prior to the perfomance mentioning Solvay and eating at the Dinosaur BBQ. The crowd was all ages and we all enjoyed.

She was amazing. That was the 5th time I have see her perform and she gets better with age! We love her!

Energetic Lily provided a great, funny show. The two-hour event flew by.

  • LILY

We flew to Los Angeles in 1985(I think it was that was the year)...saw her and she was FABULOUS...that woman is exceptionally talented and entertaining. Thank you to Lily and to Jane for their spot-on creations of the wonderful variety of human beings...The evening at Saratoga was fabulous. J.M.Harkins.

  • A bundle of energy

by linzap on 7/19/10Montalvo - SaratogaRating: 5 out of 5

Lily is amazing. She is as hysterical as ever and has more energy than most 5 year olds.

  • Lily was good!

by Anonymous on 7/19/10Montalvo - SaratogaRating: 4 out of 5

The comedy show was decent, I did not get all the jokes, etc., but nevertheless, the show was quite entertaining. The venue was amazing, though a few heat lamps would not have hurt.

  • Not enough new material

by Skylinelee on 7/18/10Montalvo - SaratogaRating: 2 out of 5

I've loved and admired Lily for 30 years, but her performance 7/17/10 at Montalvo was 85% old stuff, with only a half-hearted attempt to add a fresh take on current events. But that 15% was her best stuff, at least that night. It was good to revisit her many characters, but each one could been give a new lease of life by addressing the problems, stupidity, and villainy of the day. She was physically energetic and agile on stage, but the material wasn't near so lively. I felt a bit like I did after a Simon & Garfunkle concert a few years ago at the Oakland Arena, which was, in effect, a nostalgia performance--no new materials at all. Lily was better than that, but it still felt lazy, and I hope she'll rework her characters and bring her trademark snarky insight to bear on what's happening now. God knows there's plenty of raw material to lampoon.

  • I love Lily Tomlin!

by AmyCNM on 7/18/10Montalvo - SaratogaRating: 5 out of 5

Lily will always be at the top of her game, because she is an amazing performer. Her old material is as fresh as ever, and she is so right on when she comments on what is current. This was a performance I'll never forget (and the venue was terrific, too!).

  • Too long an intermission

by Shlimazel on 7/18/10Montalvo - SaratogaRating: 3 out of 5

Lily Tomlin was scheduled to perform at 8:00PM, but after a twenty five minute opening act, we had to wait until 9:05PM for Lily to appear. The opening of her act was great and the ending was quite good, but in the middle some of her material could have been left out.

  • Lily was a bit frenetic and tooo short

    by srtakay1 on 7/18/10Montalvo - SaratogaRating: 3 out of 5

The opening act was fun and funny - but could have played a little longer rather than playing the canned music. ROBROCKS is a website I will probably check out. A half hour plus between the opener and Lily was toooooooo long. THen when she finally came on, she was on for less than 1 1/2 hours and checked her watch multiple times. It felt at times like she wasn't really sure she wanted to be there. Many of her routines were great - but it was a mixed bag. Her updated Ernestine was great and it would have been nice to have more of that.

  • Brilliant!

by Anonymous on 7/18/10Montalvo - SaratogaRating: 5 out of 5

Lily was brilliant as always. There was a fair amount of new material that we had not seen before but we never tire of her old stuff which is probably the reason we keep going back to see her. Her material is always very clever, funny and thought provoking. Her talent of shifting from character to character in a split second is amazing. She is not to be missed.

Opening act was not good. Lily was good but, I would have been disappointed if I paid full price.

  • Lily Tomlin Continues to ROCK!

by ChrisInSunnyvale on 7/18/10Montalvo - SaratogaRating: 5 out of 5

Lily Tomlin is the best combination of intelligence, compassion and humor on this planet. I can't say enough about how terrific she *always* is. It will be a dark day for performance art when she decides to retire, which she mentioned. We've seen her live many times since the 1970's, and she never disappoints her audience.

  • Tomlin is as funny as ever!

by norska on 7/18/10Montalvo - SaratogaRating: 5 out of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed her spontaneity. She kept us laughing for 1 1/2 hours shifting from one liners to portrayals of her wonderful characters. I would have put 4 1/2 stars for the way the evening was arranged. The lead act was very good, but the 1/2 hour intermission so early into the evening was annoying. Many people had just gotten their seats when they were invited to get up and spend money on food/wine/memberships. Then for us on the concrete seats we were uncomfortable towards the end of her performance. But she was wonderful!

  • Timelessly funny!

by PCDC on 7/18/10Montalvo - SaratogaRating: 5 out of 5

what a fantastic performance of the best of Lily Tomlin's characters and the brilliant writing of Jane Wagner! the evening was filled with " laugh out loud" moments.

  • The venue was a challenge

    by Sunday1234 on 7/18/10Montalvo - SaratogaRating: 3 out of 5

Lily had her ups and downs. As a first timer to see her, I was a little disappointed. However, it was the venue I found most challenging. There was no one to direct you about lines, where to find this or that and things were just not marked well. The line to get on the shuttle was rediculous and it was hard moving about. I did not like the 30 minute break between the opening act and Lily. It was an attempt to sell memberships and more wine, while the audience awaiting what they came for. It was spendy, especially to park on the grounds.

  • Extremely funny and entertaining

by KimOnPeninsula on 7/18/10Montalvo - SaratogaRating: 5 out of 5

Lily's show was extremely funny and entertaining. I saw her show "The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe" many (20+) years ago - it was one of the funniest shows I've ever seen. I took my daughter to see the current show and was curious to see what she'd think of it, if younger people would enjoy the humor. We both had a delightful evening. It was amazing.

  • A Wonderful Night of Comedy for A Cause

by Cinta56 on 4/18/10St. George Theatre - Staten IslandRating: 4 out of 5

Kate Clinton did a good opening with many funny moments, riffing on the contemporary political scene (teabaggers, race, LGBT issues). Lily Tomlin was wonderful, recycling many classics (reprising her "worries" from the one-woman shows, and then 2 longer pieces from On Stage - Miss Sweeney and Stop Talking About the Cake). Her long set was punctuated with old videos of Ernestine, Tommy Velour, Judith Beasley and other classic characters who she also did live. The Edith Ann pieces were very funny and physical. Ernestine modernized as an HMO rep denying coverage for everything were scarily on point. Tomlin also hammed it up with Clinton in a semi-staged Q & A set where they each asked one another questions written on cards from the audience. The crowd was mostly vintage Baby Boomer lesbians and the location gave Staten Island a night to show off its best.
