LILY ALLEN IN CONCERT:

Pop chanteuse and controversy queen Lily Allen has been stirring the pot ever since her debut single "Smile" topped British charts in 2006. While she may have matured as a songwriter, her stunning soulful voice hasn't changed a lick and neither has her risqué attitude -- after a several year hiatus, Allen made a triumphant return to the charts in 2013 with "Hard out Here," a no-punches-pulled critique of the cutthroat world of pop stardom.  Equal parts flirty and brash, the provocative Allen will treat ticket buyers to classics like "F*ck You" alongside newer hits like "Air Balloon" on her latest tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

London-born Lily Allen got an early start in show business, landing several acting roles in childhood thanks to her actor father and producer mother. After a tumultuous youth that saw her attend 13 different schools -- several of which expelled her for smoking and drinking -- Allen was overheard  one day singing Oasis's "Wonderwall" by budding soprano Rachel Santesso, who quickly took Allen under her wing for vocal lessons. In 2005 she signed to Regal Recordings, but due to budgetary constraints she was left to promote her music via Myspace, where early singles like "Smile" and "Alfie" attracted hundreds of thousands of fans. By the time her debut album Alright, Still was released the following year  she already had a substantial following, paving the way for the album's quick rise to No. 2 on the UK Albums Chart. Her next two albums, 2009's It's Not Me, It's You and 2014's Sheezus, both skyrocketed to No. 1 on the British charts, cementing her role as a dominant force in English pop music and paving the way for continued touring.

  • AMAZING

Amazing venue, Lily's voice was amazing, and she's just so lovely. Better than Jay Z and Beyonce last week. So much fun! Venue staff were awesome, answered questions/remembered drinks. Overall best venue in the bay!!!

  • Lily Allen Back with Zero Shame

by aheyheynow on 10/9/18Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 5 out of 5

Lily Allen came roaring into the Fox Theater - Oakland tonight with a streamlined set focusing almost entirely on her brilliant current “No Shame,” project with a few nods to still timely catalogue items like “F—k You” and “The Fear.” Opener Producer @S-X was excellent as well.

  • Great Artist - Poor Sound

by LordSqueasel on 10/9/18Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 3 out of 5

I very much like Lily Allen's lyrics and music but was underwhelmed with this show. We were house left on the Dance floor and the speaker stack near us sounded awful and distorted (same during the opening act S_X), and seemingly unable to produce a full range of sound, or the person at the mixing table was having a rough evening. Either way, sound was bad. That said, Allen's lyrics are fantastic and insightful. The usually interesting music from her albums was missing in the show ... just some recorded background with badly mixed piano and guitar.

  • Lily always fun!

Good music, interesting opening act, nice venue. Just wish there was seating....

  • Lilly Allen Disappointing

    by Bowie99 on 10/9/18Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 1 out of 5

Song set and order disappointing. She kept promoting her merchandise. Sound bad.

  • Karaoke night

by Chicapaz on 10/9/18Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 2 out of 5

Lily has clever lyrics. Disappointed she only has two keyboards players in her band . One can barely hear her sing because the keyboard players were so loud. They were so loud it sounded like a second class of karaoke. And it’s not the venue because I have seen many concerts there before. Plus Lily started her concert at 9:20... I almost thought our tickets were going to be refunded.

  • Lily Allen was QUEEN af!

  • Ran super late

    by Sarah95825 on 10/9/18Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 4 out of 5

The concert was supposed to start st 8:00, she had an opener come out and he sucked & then she didn’t come on until 9:30 and the sound quality sucked

  • A bit disappointing

    by SB2012 on 10/9/18Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 3 out of 5

I love Lily Allen but her performance lacked energy. Her new songs are great on the album but bored me live. For her old songs, except for F*** you which was great, she sang them in kind of a campy karaoke way rather than putting a fresh spin on them.

  • Very disappointing!

by DrPepperSir on 10/9/18Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 1 out of 5

The opening act was terrible. The music was painfully loud, especially the bass. The "artist" wandered around the stage, with no purpose. He sang over recorded music. And then there was the wait for Lily Allen to appear ... and wait ... and wait. When she came on stage, the lighting was the first assault on my senses - it was blinding and prevented me from seeing the artists on the stage well. It did not let up during the portion of the performance we attended. The sound was muddy and far to loud - as painfully loud as the opening act. I barely recognized the songs, even those I have known and loved for years. I attended the show on her last tour and loved it! I am puzzled as to why she chose to perform her beautiful music this way. We left mid-way through the first set - about 20 minutes in. I assume there was a second set or an encore. The people in front on the floor seemed very happy. But, I was happy to get out of there and put on her CD in the car.

  • Lily Allen, Alright still

    by jim1972 on 10/9/18Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 4 out of 5

It’s Lily Allen. She sounds as good as she always does. She played a great set and a good cover of Lykke Li’s Deep End.

  • Lily Allen was great

by DOlson on 10/21/14Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 4 out of 5

the show was great, loved the music and the song selection. the seating was a bit cramped For the price of tickets...I would definately go again if lily allen came back to the fox theater.but would like to sit closer the sound... was a bit loud and distorted and was not as clear as others indoor concerts ive been to. unfortunately had someone in front of us standing up dancing most of the show...but thats to be expected.

  • Lily was wonderful

    by Jack945 on 10/16/14Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 2 out of 5

Lily was wonderful but... The sound was horrific. The venue acoustics were totally fine but whoever was running the sound had the band turned up to where you could hardly hear her voice. When you could hear her voice, it was angelic but 95% of the time the bass just stomped your head. The musicians were phenomenal but the sound level was painful even after putting in ear plugs. Sorry about all the negativity but it seems like something that could be fixed pretty easily. Lily and the musicians were totally amazing!

  • Best show I've been to in a while!

by ICantComeUpWithAnything on 10/15/14Fox Theater - OaklandRating: 5 out of 5

Lily Allen was adorable, fun, cute, and just overall a great performer at this show. I waited in line 5 hours and was able to be in the very front. And I can say without a doubt it was totally worth it! I loved her band's costumes and her sense of humor, definitely the best show I've been to all year!

The only reason I gave Lily Allen concert only 3 stars is because the band really did her disservice. I went to the concert to listen to her music and hear her sweet voice and the band just over powered/drowned her voice almost through out the evening. That was dissapointing. I would have prefered just to hear her voice with no loud band behind her or maybe softer/low background music . I was upstairs in the balcony and couldnt even make out her face. Why no screen? Even if its a small screen we (upstairs) could have at least see her/performer's face to feel like we are right there. That was dissapointing also. Due to my bad knee and heights I couldnt have done the first floor for more than 2 hours.. I doubt very much if I'll buy another ticket in the Fox Theather. Although, the staff (elevator man, seat finder, etc) were very friendly and outstanding helpers. It was a fun night but it would have been much better if there would have been a screen where we can see her, even if the band drowned her voice all night.. that would have been the difference.

Lily Allen was the most courteous and affable artist that I have ever watched live. She treated the audience like an old friend that she had been anticipating to converse with. I felt that I was better treated at her show than at any other show that I had attended.
