Liberty Smith - great fictitous revolution romp

by TimDL on 6/2/11Ford's Theatre - Washington

It was a great fun musical. Thought I was in for a rough performance when the Old Liberty forgot some of the words to the opening song. But everyone showed true professionalism and performed admirably - including Old Liberty. Seeing the last show was well worth rearranging my flight schedules.

It's pure fiction and cute. There is a lot of "Liberty" with historical facts. It is fun for all ages.

A pre- through post-Revolutionary War play interspersed with music! It was superb, in particular, as it was also set against the backdrop of Ford's Theatre!

The show was excellent. Very funny and moved at a good pace. All of the actors did a great job. The actors portraying Liberty Smith were outstanding. The scene involving the trip to France made me laugh out loud. The costumes are also a double thumbs up. If this is coming to a theater near you, it is worth the trip.

Our whole family of six truly enjoyed the Ford's Theatre production of Liberty Smith. The quick witty dialogue contained laughs for all ages! And the wonderful, historic and intimate Ford's Theatre makes you feel you are a part of the production. Thank you for a great evening.

The last Liberty Smith show was great, and the actors acted like they had never done the show before... All of the costumes, theatrical timing and music were very well done... I rank it among my Top Five of All-time!

    Liberty Smith - A Winner

Loved it! Clever premise - funny, lively, great performers, delightful music. I'm sorry this was the last performance as I would highly recommend it as a family friendly production. Great way to recap American history with a modern twist. This was the world premier- hope it has a future.

Liberty Smith was awesome in every way!

by FoundingFathers on 5/23/11Ford's Theatre - Washington

Liberty Smith is a fantastic musical. I felt like I was watching a show on Broadway. All the actors were in character every single second, no matter if they were the focus or not. The set was small, meaning not ornate, but used so well. Every performer had a beautiful voice. The artistic "liberties" that were taken were fun, for example, Jefferson being so afraid and not wanting to write the Declaration of Independence. My 15 year old daughter, Emily, has a boyfriend named Andrew. So, when the Liberty Smith character, Emily Andrews, introduced herself, that brought a twinkle to my Emily's eye. But her eye twinkled so much more through the performance. She loved it. My mom love it as did I! My almost 13 year old daughter was a little frustrated and not understanding all the jokes, but she did like it too. The references to history and present day situations were great-- so funny. I would go again in a heart beat. Just loved it.

We all enjoyed this wonderful show. Very clever. The writing, music and performances were all first rate. I am sorry that it is closing because we'd like to return and bring friends to see it. Great for the entire family. Many students on Friday night. They loved the show, too.
