Cameron Mackintosh presents the acclaimed production of Boublil and Schönberg's Tony Award-winning musical phenomenon, Les Misérables. This brilliant staging has taken the world by storm and has been hailed as "a reborn dream of a production" (Daily Telegraph).
Set against the backdrop of 19th century France, Les Misérables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption-a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. The magnificent score of Les Misérables includes the songs "I Dreamed a Dream," "On My Own," "Bring Him Home," "One Day More" and many more.
Staging was magical. Acting and singing were both incredible. It is a wonderful production in every regard.
The unnecessary vulgarity added to this production completely spoils the message that is Les MIs. What a travesty. 3rd and now LAST time seeing this. So disappointed in how this was butchered
This review only applies to Centennial Hall in Tucson. The production on the whole was fabulous, cast, creative adaptions, set... but when going to a live musical, expect to be able to hear the voices, make out words of the songs. It felt like I was watching a show in a different language with so many of the words garbled. I'm not 50 yet so its not my hearing, think it was the acoustics, so that was disappointing. That aside, brilliant. .
Excellent production. Perhaps the best I’ve seen. And I’ve seen it in NYC and London. Great voices and production. I’d highly recommend this tour.
Getting into the venue was easy, beverages available outside the lobby. We bought $7 aluminum cans of water. Yes, $7. Unreal. But hey, we needed the hydration on a hot Tucson night. Staff was all lovely. Theatre was well kept. The performers were absolutely best in class, and did this aging show plenty of justice. We sat on the Orchestra Right in row GG, right on the interior aisle. The sightline was ok (seats aren't tiered to allow you to see over the person in front of you very well). But let me tell you, the audio in this section was completely out of phase. Every word of this show is sung, and it is VERY important that your sound engineer dials in the whole room to allow for intelligibility. This was flat out lousy and a complete waste of money for the first act of the show. My wife and I decided to relocate to open seats directly behind the sound board op in the mezzanine to watch the second act. The sightlines were worse, but the audio improved 500% (not surprisingly). I know enough about audio to know that your best sound will always be in line with where the engineer is sitting, but for the right side of this auditorium to sound as bad as it did, tells me that the travelling audio team either put very little effort into dialing in the sound for the entire room, or were not supplied with the correct speaker array to accomplish that, or simply didn't know how to fix it. It's all inexcusable, and I really walked away feeling I had thrown my hard earned money down the drain. Suffice to say I will be warning my friends and family off from sitting anywhere in this venue other than directly in the center of the room (which, of course, tends to be more expensive), but it must be said. And for any other acts that tour through this building, I sure hope they bring enough additional speakers in their rig to adequately balance the entire room, not just the center orchestra.
Excellent pit orchestra from the downbeat to the last chord. Stage production was great from the set design, special effects, and choreography. We’ve seen this production many times on Broadway, in Florida, and Michigan. This ensemble is superb with many talented musicians and actors. A wonderful evening of laughter, tears, and outstanding music. Thank you.
We have seen this show many times but were disappointed by the acoustics in the hall. It was very difficult to hear the words of some of the individuals singers. I thought it was just me but my husband said the same thing. The singing was excellent but I would have liked to have understood what they were saying better.
I couldn't make out a lot of the lyrics which ruined a lot of it for me. I was pretty bummed about not being able to follow the story, not knowing it going in so i had to connect the dots frequently. Some songs were worse than others leaving me to rely soley on the acting to guess at what was going on. Everything else was great.
This was our least favorite Broadway play. The acting and singing were just okay. It was very hard to understand the actors which made it hard to follow. Wouldn't go again.
The show was well done in terms of scenery and actors. The sound system really was bad. We could only hear about maybe half the singing. It was not clear. The only clear voice was one of the male children. Since the key to the performance was the singing, the play was pretty much a flop.
The talent was amazing for this performance. Centennial hall in Tucson has terrible acoustics, sound and the chairs are awful and very uncomfortable. It’s time for an update of this venue. The venue ruined the show.
Music was wonderful. Had a little difficulty understanding the lyrics but since I know most of them it was not a probes but did not think the acoustics in the theater were wonderful.
This production was equal to any of the many Broadway plays I have witnessed. The actors exceptional, the scenery fabulous, the sound (including the live orchestra) unparalleled. Thank you for a delightful evening.
We enjoyed the recent performance—actors, costuming, staging but had difficulty following the lyrics even though we had seen Les Miserable 3 times previously. It may have been our seat location but sound was not clear.
I loved the talent in this show, but I was disappointed with some of the directorial decisions. The tempo felt too fast, a few of the characters - particularly Valjean - were hard to understand, some of the songs were moved to odd places (why is Fantine singing "I Dreamed a Dream"before anything really bad has happens to her?), details were left out (Why does Valjean's strength give him away to Javert in the overturned cart scene?, Why is Eponine singing about rain if it isn't raining? Why is Marius singing about tables and chairs when there are no tables or chairs on the stage?), and some characters were elevated above others for odd reasons (Grantaire's death is spotlighted more than Enjolras's). Overall, it seemed hard to follow; I felt bad for audience members who were seeing it for the first time. Because of the speed in which the story moved, it was difficult to emotionally connect to the characters and to understand how their relationships intertwined with each other. I've seen Les Mis on stage in two other productions. This one, while still offering tremendous talent musically, missed the mark for me.
The lead actor who portrayed Jean valjean cracked his voice 4 times during the 1st song I know it was his 7th show at this location but he should've warmed up his voice more. I have seen this show many times it is my favorite, but the stranger sitting beside me said it was hard to follow the story and she was VERY confused when the children were at the thenardies home and eponine was a little white girl and when they got to the story for years later she was black. I am all for equal opportunity but if you are going to hire a black actress for the adult role shouldn't you also hire a black child for the child role?
This was a wonderful show with standout performances in all the favorite roles in the musical - a great talented crew which led to a most enjoyable experience.
The talent in Les Mis was incredible, as were the staging and transitions> I thought the lighting was extremely dim for the entire show, which did somewhat dim my experience.
I've seen Les Mes serveral times, both on Broadway and other, but I've never seen a better performacne than this one. Singing, dancing, staging, lighting, orchestra were all A+.
Although the scene is meant to be dreary, it was so dark it was sometimes hard to see. However, the singing was amazing!
