I was looking forward to going to her concert but it ended at 10pm. She didn't come on stage until around 845pm. She included some other songs in her show from other artists. I would have prefer for her to utilize that time with her own music considering her concert was only 1 hour and 15 mins. SMH
Great seats,good vibe all around. I was disappointed how Leela didn't get to much of new album. She did about 5min of d type music đ¶. Would have rather heard her perform. I have seen her at smaller intimate venues and truly enjoyed the show and experience
Sheâs amazing a few mishaps with wardrobe and sound but she definitely sounds like her record. Fox theatre turned the sound up like midway through and that made the words distorted. The parking sucks but the venue is small and intimate. You will walk from wherever you park so be comfortable!
We were so looking forward to this Leela James Concert at the Fox in Oakland. Unfortunately, Ms. James had other plans. A third of the way into her less-than-an-hour show, she pulled off her boots, left the stage (to the confusion of her band) and returned wearing a hoodie. Okay, so she wanted to be more comfortable. I've got no issues with that. But she then kept demanding that the house lights be turned up so she could see the audience, and then she went to a laptop and proceeded to play dance music. The entire concert stopped for around 20 minutes while she and the band danced on stage and kept yelling at the audience (Make some noise, Oakland over and over) to get the energy of the room up. Finally, they returned to concert mode for about 20 minutes and then it was all over. I hope she enjoyed the evening because we sure didn't.
The sound system at the FOX Theatre was horrible and poor quality For the price of the tickets I was expecting to be entertained. I was NOT the stage performance was lacking. I REALLY love Leela James music. I think she is dynamic but the performance in Oakland was not good. We left when (30 minutes into the show) she began DJâing and announced that she only had 5 minutes left. Also the back up singer (1 person) sounded like more than one person which leads me to assume that they were playing a recording. Again for the money charged I was expecting more.

Our evening with Leela James was great. Leela commanded the stage with her energy and of course her voice. The band and her backup singers were awesome. Leela definitely loved up to her nickname, the God Daughter of Soul.

I have seen Leela various times in smaller venues. Her performance in Oakland, CA was dreadful! She barely sang 5 songs and none completely. Her back-up singer and hype man( who has a hype man at a soul music concert?) carried her. She left the stage for like 10 or 15 minutes and it was clear that the back-singer and hype man didn't know if she was returning but they were trying to keep the crowd engaged. She returned having taken off her boots replaced by sneakers and a hoody looking like she was either going to rap on a street corner or make a grocery store run. Before the wardrobe change her outfit was confusing with her wearing camo cargo pants, sparkling boots and a see through sheer top revealing her black bra and some sort of gold shingled vest. Anyway back to the performance, at least 20 minutes of it was her pretending she was a DJ playing excerpts of songs and getting the crowd to sing and dance. If I wanted to go to a club that's what I would have done. I came to and paid for a concert; I can sing and dance for free in my living for free via Spotify. Overall the concert gets the grade of D. It escaped an F because of the back-up singer. I have throughly enjoyed Leela in the past. Possibly she needs to stick to smaller venues. She coins herself the God-daughter of Soul. Well if the Godfather, James Brown, saw this performance he is rolling in his grave... I truly hope this is one bad performance and future ones are much better. Leela is a great talent with a great voice and vibe, but none of that came through that night.
Super disappointed in the show at Oakland's Fox Theatre on 1/26/24, she was on stage less than 1 hour and only actually sang for about 40 of those minutes. She played recorded old school (not singing, but actually played recorded music) for 5 - 7 minutes mid show, her and her MC and her backup singer spent more time yelling "put your hands up, put your hands up"rather than focusing on what the crowd came for, her beautiful voice. Love her music, second time seeing her live, thought the other bad / short show was a fluke... now I know... last time live for her.
The entire performance was a vibe. Very entertaining and so much fun. I can not wait until she returns!!!
Leela put on a wonderful show. I really enjoyed how she was getting the audience involved. EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE!
Leela came to sing and entertain the crowd. Leela was high energy performing to a lackluster, non- engaging crowd. Detroit Lions had just won the championship and the audience should have been riding the wave but they fell flat and needed much motivation. Shout out to Leela to maintaining her professionalism . Her vocals are A-maze-ing! I will see her again.
LĂ©ela is extraordinarily talented with such a deep moving voice that keeps us all fully engaged in her performance. I took a friend that was not familiar with her music, and he is now a fan of her music. True soul to my soul.
After one song, she stopped and fussed at the audience for not being hyped up. I came to hear her sing her songs that generally don't get me in the mood to party. I didn't come to be hyped up for the Leela James party and listen to music from the 70s, 80s and 90s that she played.
Ms. James is the real deal. Her voice is amazing. I just wish she sang my favorite song a bit longer. Your the one!!!
Strong voice. Her rendition of Simply Beautiful was a show stopper. Some of her vocal skills were lost to muffled sound equipment.
