About

A Chicago original and international hit, LATE NITE CATECHISM started in a Chicago storefront theater in 1993, and is still going strong.
Call it Carol Burnett meets Whoopi Goldberg. This interactive comedy is part catechism class, part stand-up routine. Since its beginning, LATE NITE CATECHISM has been performed in almost every major U.S. city, plus has done successful stints in Australia, England, Ireland, Canada, and Malaysia.
The New York Times calls it, "hilarious, well-written and inspired." Jeffrey Lyons from TV’s Sneak Previews calls LATE NITE CATECHISM "something to savor and enjoy....one of the most intimate, rewarding shows in town."
The role of Sister, the wise-cracking, lovable character of LATE NITE CATECHISM, was created in 1993 by Vicki Quade and Maripat Donovan, both products of the Catholic school system.
Among the many reviews it has received, the New York Times called LATE NITE CATECHISM “hilarious, well-written, and inspired,” the Chicago Reader called it “gloriously funny,” and the Catholic Explorer called it “a habit-forming hoot!”
Schools and parishes throughout the United States have used all of these shows as a way of raising much-needed money to balance their budgets. In addition, the shows are used to help raise retirement funds for Sisters. Since the collections started, LATE NITE CATECHISM has generated donations of well over $3 million, which has been sent to various orders of nuns throughout the United States.

    Nite of catechism

by Papawsam on 10/4/17Embassy Theatre - Fort Wayne

Bought tickets to take my terminal mom in law but she had a bad dY and couldn't go, insisted wife and I go as she had seen it 40 years ago and knew we would love it. We did except for her absence . Not a catholic but married one 4 years ago, loved the show and interaction

If you ever get a chance to go to "class" and participate in Late Night Catechism, I would say GO!

Very good and funny. Amazed the "nun" could keep it going for two hours. A lot of ad libbing. At times it would have been funnier to have 2 "nuns" going back and forth with each other.

    Great Value!!

by CatholicStudent1 on 7/11/17Royal George Theatre - Chicago

JMJ The show was great and more than I would have guessed given the price. It was also longer than expected (2hrs). Highly recommend to anyone, especially looking to take parents who went to Catholic school.

    Highly Entertaining

by 414141 on 7/11/17Royal George Theatre - Chicago

We had a fantastic time. Lots on interaction with the audience. We came in a couple/ minutes late and received an earful from Sister. I felt like I was back in my school days.

The show was a great way to spend an early evening in Chicago before dinner reservations. The performance was flawless, combining script, improv, and audience participation.

    Enjoyable evening

by IamI on 3/28/17Royal George Theatre - Chicago

The performance was interactive and filled with ever changing topics. Sister's ability to interact and pick up on subtle clues was impressive. If you had the experience of attending a catholic school with nuns as teachers this will bring back memories. Recommend seeing this.

You will be rolling aisles. Great audiance interactive time - perfect place for dress-up for those who went to Catholic schools and hoot for all those unfortunate souls who went to public school.

We really enjoyed the show. It was funny but respectful. The audience participation was great. The actress was witty and quick to ad lib and make the humor real.

    This Nun is Fun!

by KimMusk on 2/16/17Royal George Theatre - Chicago

Late Nite Catechism was a blast! Sister kept the classroom under control while instructing us on Catholicism with her quick wit and humor. If you're not Catholic, you might learn a thing or two from this witty nun. This is interactive, but not to the point of making anyone feel uncomfortable and was just a lot of fun and had everyone laughing throughout and leaving with smiles on our faces! This is one you shouldn't miss!!

    Late Nite Catechism - Disappointment

by PBGFL on 1/31/17Abdo New River Room at the Broward Center - Ft Lauderdale

I saw the play last year at the Kravitz in West Palm Beach and the actor did a fabulous job - sticking with the funny items related to the Catholic church. This performer was a disappointment and used he platform for improv comedy, it appeared. I took a friend and had to apologize, mentioning that the actor was not the same as the actor in West Palm Beach.

    What a Fun Sunday :)

by dewey2222 on 1/31/17Broward Center - Ft. Lauderdale

What a great time! Comfortable setting with a very funny and witty Sister! Comic material was hilarious and tasteful - a rarity these days. Based on Sister's interaction with the audience/class, it is obvious she loves her job! Would highly recommend to anyone who appreciates a very good laugh.
