Meaning "red-haired one" in French, La Roux is the synth pop project of flame-haired singer/songwriter Elly Jackson and keyboardist/producer Ben Langmaid. Before they collaborated, Jackson, the daughter of actress Trudie Goodwin, grew up listening to folk artists and singer/songwriters like Nick Drake and Joni Mitchell, and drew inspiration from their sounds for her early music. However, Jackson's style changed as she got into the rave scene, taking her music in a more electronic direction. Meanwhile, Langmaid had gone to school with Rollo from Faithless, and the two recorded as house duo Huff & Puff in the mid-'90s; Langmaid also recorded as Atomic and as one half of Huff & Herb for Rollo's label, and was a songwriter for the group Kubb. Jackson and Langmaid began working together in 2006, when they were introduced by a mutual acquaintance. Initially, they called their project Automan and wrote largely acoustic music before scrapping that name and sound for the sleek Prince, David Bowie, and the Knife-inspired style they pursued as La Roux, a moniker Jackson found in a book of baby names. Their debut single, "Quicksand," was released by Kitsune in fall 2008, and earned the band acclaim from the BBC and the Guardian. La Roux supported Lily Allen on her 2009 U.K. tour around the time their second single, "In for the Kill," was released that spring and debuted at 11 on the U.K. charts, reaching a peak position of two; that summer, the single "Bulletproof" debuted at number one a week before La Roux's self-titled album was released. La Roux arrived in the States that fall. Late that year, the duo began working on new material that steered away from the heavy '80s influence of its debut. In early 2010, Skream's remix of "In for the Kill" won Best Dancefloor Filler at the NME Shockwave Awards. That summer, "Bulletproof" entered the Top Ten of Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart, and La Roux released the mix album Sidetracked. ~ Heather Phares, Rovi

Great show! They rocked it! Venue was good, didn't like the control of the pit.
She apologized about her voice but she sounded astounding. The entire set was very entertaining and the venew was very intimate. The atmosphere was great as all the other guests where very courteous. Totally recommend!
La Roux's performance contributed to one of the best days of my life. They were completely professional and fascinating while capturing their audience both visually and by auditory means. Elly Jackson's ability to connect w/ an audience through music is rare and formidable. It was made clear, she is the type of rising star that this day & age has not yet seen. I am truly thankful for her & the band's presence on this planet. Awesome show!
To be honest, I only knew of La Roux because Bulletproof was a free iTunes download a long time ago. I downloaded it cause it was a good song and didn't think much of it until it actually started playing on the radio. I figured based off of that one song that the whole concert should be fun even if I didn't know any other song, and guess what? I was right! I got there a little late so I'm not sure who the opening act/DJ was, but he/they were alright. Then La Roux came on and it was amazing! I had only wish I knew the other songs to sing along while I was there. The crowd was cool, the venue (4th and B) was good, and La Roux was awesome.
La Roux's performance was great! The opening act and management of the venue was sub-par, however.
It was a great show and I'd heard the venue wasn't great but I liked it!
Got there after 20 minutes of the act being on. Great show, but too short! Great sound.
I saw La roux perform in San Diego last night and let me tell you it is an experience I will not soon forget. The night started with a very good dj that set the mood just right. Anticipation built to a fever pitch until La Roux in all her glory came out on stage. The lighting and effects were thrilling to say the least, especially the designer tv screen at the back of the stage. La Roux's energy was brilliant and her costume matched the scene to a T. I can not say enough good things about this show. I had an amazing time.
This concert was mind blowing! Ellie was incredible and her band gives her amazing musical support! She was so humble and down to earth, I'd tell anyone to go to this concert!
la roux was amazing...except for the fact that they only played for about 30 mins! I'm so bummed I paid as much as I did for the show. If you weren't there right on time, chances are you only got to hear two songs. If it were a $15 show, I wouldn't be complaining, but come on, at least throw in a good headliner or two to make it worthwhile. i used to loveee la roux, but now i get bummed out every time i hear one of their songs.
La Roux brought the electro-pop (and shall I say superior) sound of England right to New York for a thrilling night. Her songs use a nice electronic mix of Human League, Yaz, and even Depeche Modish sounds along with thought-provoking, storytelling lyrics to energize her audience. The fact that Elly was kind enough to take a picture with me after only added to how much I already love her and her work.
Energetic and entertaining! A bit short of a set still awesome
I love her music and she is absolutely amazing! she really knows how to entertain the crowd and her props were awesome! I LOVED IT!!!
La Roux kicked some serious arse Monday night @ Terminal 5! The floor was so packed that I may have appeared like I was seizing while dancing in place. Elly's voice was filled with emotion and she danced and didn't miss a beat. Her band were all on point--and even if it sounded 80's, it didn't sound synthesized! I love La Roux!!!
Better than expected. She performs with serious heart.
The concert was absolutlyy amazing- the venue was really nice and her preformance was like nothing I have ever seen before. Elly Jackson herself is extremely talented and has an excellent voice live, as well as her other band mates. Although the venue only have one exit and it could seem a little crouded the staff was friendly and helpful. Unfortunitly I dont really have anything good to say about the opening act, they were just horrible. But La Roux's light show was very impressive. Elly showed excellent showmanship and energy even when she talked to the croud about how her parents were in the house and tid bits like that she seemed like sure a sweetheart.
She always puts on amazing shows, and I really enjoyed this one.
La Roux put on an energetic show. Elly sounded great and looked really hot. The only criticism I would note is the fact that the music was, at times, drowning out her voice. Overall, it was a fabolous show. She did all the songs I wanted to hear (Cover My Eyes, Colourless Colour, etc.)
I loved La Roux! Elly's energetic and fun and the concert was truly a great time. Everyone went crazy for bulletproof and the venue was nice. Met her outside by the back exit, she was so friendly and willing to take pictures and sign autographs for people. loved itttt!
