LA LUZ IN CONCERT:
LA-based surf rockers La Luz explore the seductive underbelly of the traditionally sunny '60s genre, offering a shadowy take that transcends the style’s vintage origins. The all-girl foursome calls it "surf noir," and while there’s a melancholy current to laid-back tracks like "What Good Am I," La Luz's shows remain buoyantly light-hearted . Taking the stage in wildly patterned vintage duds, the band packs a serious live punch, keeping the energy high from start to finish and encouraging enthusiastic fans to crowd surf (this is surf rock, after all). But they don't stop there – La Luz also spurs serious moves with Soul Train-style dance contests during upbeat numbers like "Brainwash" and "You Disappear." The band's sun-soaked guitar riffs, soaring ooohs and ahhhs, and brisk drumming are a blast to rock out to, and their shows are the next best thing to a crazy fun party at the beach.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
La Luz formed in Seattle in 2012 and forged a unique sound that put a noir spin on the surf rock stylings of classic favorites like The Ventures and Dick Dale. The following year they released their debut album It's Alive on Seattle-based indie label Hardly Art, drawing praise from critics for their confident songwriting and fresh approach to retro rock. The attention earned them a place on tour with acclaimed indie outfit Of Montreal, but La Luz was forced to pull out after their van slipped on black ice in Boise and their gear was destroyed. Fortunately none of them were seriously injured, and by 2014 they were back on the road opening for garage rock mainstay Ty Segall. He was so impressed by their live-wire performances that he offered to produce their sophomore album, resulting in 2015's Weirdo Shrine, an acclaimed effort that added a hearty dose Segall-inspired fuzzed-out guitar to their songs. Since then La Luz has relocated to Los Angeles, the birthplace of the surf rock sound that continues to inspire their songwriting.

November 6,2024 Harlow's ,Sacramento Ca I went to the show to see the opening band (Tele Novella), had no idea who was headlining until that night. It was my first time hearing their music, but to also see them perform live was amazing! Loved them, I'm a fan!!
Absolutely one of my all time favorite bands, Shana is out of this world and the current lineup is super talented: they put on an amazing live show from start to finish. Though I loved the band with Mirian, Lena, and Alice, the new band members are totally bringing it and filling those shoes. Audrey's drumming rocks and locks right into the groove.. some Spacemoth to send things into orbit.. Guitar drenched in surfy reverb and fuzz, beautiful vocal harmonies.... no need to keep reading the reviews, just buy their albums, some tickets to go see them, and get ready to take a ride through all of the emotions. Thank you, La Luz, for existing, touring, bringing us the music, laughter, and aliens... dare I say, you really are a light for us earth people. We, fans, love you.
La Luz is such a fantastic band. We got there super early to be right at the front of the stage, and had the pleasure of meeting the band after the show to get the setlist signed. Shanas guitar playing was face melting, and the rest of the band had a very fun energy. I can't wait to see them again if they come to Madison or Chicago!
A few different bars to grab a drink…no waiting. super chill spot
Tropa Magica and La Luz played a great show!!! They sounded so good Live 💫🔥
Meh. I've been telling my wife about wanting to take her to see La Luz for FIVE years, ever since we missed them playing at Sonic Boom records, and realized they played a show across the street from a bar we were at one Halloween night (I found out the next day). She really likes Quinton Tarantino films and I thought a lot of their music was in "that" style. So here it was, a night of anticipation and excitement. The Neptune had a great, old-school theater vibe, their opening band was great and really brought energy to the crowd and had us clapping our hands and such and singing the lyrics we'd just discovered in our attempt at crowd participation and support.... this is great! and then La Luz began playing. Now, mind you - I know their sound. I know it's not the most upbeat music, but the group of songs they played, to my dissapointment, all sounded the same. To make matters worse, even after the lead guitar was turned down as reported to us by the band, I couldn't hear not one, not one word they were singing. It was too muffled. So we were left to hear the melody of each song which honestly after a while, all literally sounded like the theme song to The Munsters. I hate to say it, but I was disappointed. We left before the end of the show, and weren't the only ones.
