WELCOME TO LA CAGE AUX FOLLES!

Winner of three 2010 Tony Awards® including the award for BEST MUSICAL REVIVAL, this hilarious new production of LA CAGE AUX FOLLES was the biggest hit of the 2010 Broadway season, leaving audiences in stitches night after night!

LA CAGE  starring George Hamilton and Christopher Sieber tells the story of Georges (George Hamilton), the owner of a glitzy nightclub in lovely Saint-Tropez, and his partner Albin (Christopher Sieber), who moonlights as the glamorous chanteuse Zaza. When Georges' son brings his fiancée's conservative parents home to meet the flashy pair, the bonds of family are put to the test as the feather boas fly! LA CAGE is a tuneful and touching tale of one family's struggle to stay together... stay fabulous... and above all else, stay true to themselves!

With a glorious score of hummable melodies and a dynamite cast featuring the "notorious and dangerous Cagelles," LA CAGE is an indisputable musical comedy classic... and this extraordinary new version shows you why!

Interesting - Just like the movie

by msjensing on 12/26/11Bank of America Theatre - Chicago

I went to the show knowing only 1) it was with/about a transvestite show club 2) the show received rave reviews on broadway 3) it had George Hamilton and that guy from Pushing Daisy's (aka: Christopher Sieber). The audience was clearly a mix of straights, gays, older people, younger, etc. etc. etc (a tranny came out before the show to entertain and took a poll) and yet the response between the actors and the audience was awkward. Even during "I Am What I Am" the cheering was tense and limited. About halfway through I realized that La Cage Aux Folles had been made into a movie called The Birdcage with Nathan Lane and Robin Williams. Many scenes and lines were actually VERY similar if not identical. That being said, Christpher Sieber made the character his own and was FANTASTIC! He is worth seeing this show, and the show had a wonderful message about family .... but the show was not worth $95 a ticket. Also, at the beginning there are HUGE beach balls that are thrown around the audience (forwards and backwards). Be very careful because these balls are not soft by any means and getting hit on the back of the head without warning can be painful and potentially dangerous.

    Save your money

Poor production at best. Dancers looked sloppy and out of sinc. George Hamilton needs to retire. He looked like he could barely dance and he definitely cannot sing. Very disappointed. Left at intermission. Doesn't get worse than that

    Star not at all bright.

by Bielzebub on 12/26/11Bank of America Theatre - Chicago

George Hamilton, playing George in this delightful play, brings nothing to the production. He literally shuffles and mumbles his way through his part. He gives no life or comedy to the production. The fine efforts of Christopher Sieber (Albin) and the other talented members of the cast are the reason that I gave this production three stars. Hamilton is just So-o-o-o-o-o BAD. See this production after he leaves it. It's bound to be 100% better.

    Better without George

by GmaV on 12/26/11Bank of America Theatre - Chicago

I really enjoyed the play. It was very different from the movie with all the musical numbers which were very good. The play would have been much better with someone else in the part George Hamilton played. I realize that sometimes "names" are needed to draw audiences, but his performance was flat. I still recommend it.

    La Cage is great fun!

by southbendghosts on 12/26/11Bank of America Theatre - Chicago

While George Hamilton seems to be the big name draw for this production, Christopher Sieber steals the show. A lot of Hamilton's jokes fell flat, but Sieber's timing and brilliant comic turns kept the show going. He kept the character real while still getting the laughs, not an easy task. And the Cagelles, the show's drag queens, were fantastic! One could really believe they were night club performers. Lots of laughs and a few tears. What more can one ask for a night's entertainment?

    Disappointed

by xyzLou on 12/26/11Bank of America Theatre - Chicago

Unfortunately I can only say this was a fair production and only because of the "Star". George it is time to retire. No voice, no timming, stiff performance at best! Everyone else in the show was wonderful and you could tell they were trying to support him the best that they could. Don't bother going unless you can ignore the lead!

    La cage was forgetable!

by Fetsey on 12/26/11Bank of America Theatre - Chicago

George Hamilton is to old to be on stage. His voice is gone and he has troubles moving. Christopher Sieber was outstanding! However he can not carry Hamilton. The writing is great the songs are fun and it has the potental of a smash. Excpet for Hamiltons lack luster performance, and inabliity to perform. We wished the understudy was performing.

    Wa$te of Time and Money

by Shanna0802 on 12/25/11Bank of America Theatre - Chicago

It was awful. Tha acting, espcially by George Hamilton, was robotic and cold. It was as if the were reading all their lines and stage directions. It was terrible. The only mildy good thing was the male chorus dancers.

Come for the talent, stay for the story...

by FORMERDODGER on 12/25/11Bank of America Theatre - Chicago

In addition to the humorous interactions between characters, and AMAZING dancers, the touchingly human story remains current in our unfortunately homophobic world. Hamilton plays his father role in a thankfully understated way, leaving the humor (and the empathy) for his immensely talented counterpart. Well cast, fun lyrics, with great melodies you will be happy to hear again and again. Live a little, GO!

    La Cage was lifeless

by ChicagoCirqueFans on 12/25/11Bank of America Theatre - Chicago

George Hamilton was lifeless and without emotion. Half the audience left at intermission. This was a horrible lifeless show that needed no amount of glitter could have saved.

    Truly Entertaining

by EXIBO on 12/25/11Bank of America Theatre - Chicago

You will be entertained from the moment you approach the theater. Christopher Sieber makes the show. A great showman with a strong voice.. George Hamilton seemed to be a little off in his performance. He doesn't dance very well and his singing is lacking also. Other than that, his stage portrayal as Georges was good. The cast of "Les Cagelles" was fantastic.

    Utterly enjoyable

by Calcias on 12/25/11Bank of America Theatre - Chicago

We've been fans of Chris Sieber for a long time. We knew he was talented but did not know anything about his very powerful voice and singing ability...simply amazing. The entire production was fantastic...the dancing, the singing and we were quite happy it was a production based on the original story which takes place in St. Tropez and not Miami. We would highly recommend it and would certainly see it again.

    Great musical!

by LynnieG on 12/24/11Bank of America Theatre - Chicago

Love the films La Cage and The Birdcage. This was a new musical version. The music and lyrics were really good, with lots of singing and dancing. Sieber has the best singing voice and he is as funny as Nathan Lane was in the Birdcage. (That's saying alot!) George Hamilton never ages and looked fantastic as ever. The finale of the Birdcage show, where they smuggled the family out - in drag. The "lady" who came out on stage and did the warmup before the play was very funny.
