About

KURT VILE AND THE VIOLATORS IN CONCERT:

Kurt Vile is the shy guy at the eye of a swirling hurricane of beautiful sonic textures. With his hypnotic fingerpicked guitar melodies and mumbled, cryptic lyrics, Vile lays the dark and earthy groundwork of the group’s sound in concert. His backing band the Violators take the folk-inspired tunes into the stratosphere with lush, spiraling guitars, driving drum patterns, and melodic basslines as each song builds to a climatic conclusion that envelops the listener. Ticket buyers can’t help but get swept up in the warm washes of folk, indie, and psychedelia that Kurt Vile and the Violators consistently deliver in performance.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Kurt Vile (born in Lansdowne, PA in 1980) began his musical journey when his father gave him a banjo at age 14, though he soon switched to guitar to begin recording demos. His career picked up in 2003 when he met Adam Granduciel and formed The War on Drugs, a project that remained his primary focus until the release of the band's 2008 debut Wagonwheel Blues. With his own music calling, Vile left The War on Drugs during the ensuing tour to focus on his solo career, releasing his debut album Constant Hitmaker later in 2008. He inked a deal with Matador for the 2009 follow-up album Childish Prodigy and gained exposure by touring with high-profile labelmates like Dinosaur Jr. and Thurston Moore. His third solo offering Smoke Ring for My Halo arrived in 2011 and signaled a major commercial and critical breakthrough for the singer/songwriter as publications like Pitchfork, Mojo, and Uncut ranked it as one of the best albums of the year. Kurt Vile and the Violators continue to work on their fifth album while perpetually thrilling live audiences with their increasingly sophisticated songs and superlative sonics. Over the course of his career, Kurt Vile has played at famed venues like the Old National Centre in Indianapolis or Webster Hall in New York City.

Opening act Chastity Belt really set the table for Kurt Vile. They were amazing and I am so happy I got to see them. Kurt and the Violators were great. It was my first time seeing him and I will have to see him again and again.

Kurt is by far one of my core influences as a professional.

by ERIKJUSTFORTODAY on 5/17/22The Fillmore - San Francisco

Great Show as always. I have seen Kurt 2 times at the Fillmore. He is one of my favorite current Musicians in this day and age. I also loved his set because he played a lot of songs from my favorite album of his.

    Great live show!

by momo on 5/13/22The Observatory North Park - San Diego

My first time seeing him. Even better live than on media. He is authentic and genuinely conveys the feeling that he wants to give the audience the best performance he can. The Violators were also great. I will definitely strive to see these guys again.

Solid show with some deep cuts

by Max on 5/13/22The Observatory North Park - San Diego

Overall, Kurt and his band filled the room with some great tunes. The older cuts seemed to really stand out more, but the newer ones are still pretty solid. The acoustic song, Peeping Tomboy, was gorgeous and makes me wish he did some more solo numbers. Freaktrain, Hunchback, and Wakin’ we’re all incredible, and the band really shined. I feel like having one more member for guitar/instrumentalist would have been rad like his older live set ups, but they still sounded fantastic.

    Incredible Show!!

by The Toddfather (FUJAWA) on 5/9/22Austin City Limits Live at The Moody Theater - Austin

I love Kurt. He has never compromised his music for commercial success. His success has come naturally, authentically and without compromise, and few can say they have done so. Thanks so much Kurt it was a blast.

We are new fans of Kurt Ville and decided to go see him in concert at The Filmore. He played for two hours straight exchanging different guitars and a banjo. Kurt Ville did not disappoint us. We highly recommend you seek out this talented musician. The venue and crowd was friendly which added to a comfortable experience.

Kurt Vile was amazing, the State Theater DOES NOT HAVE AIR CONDITIONING, so it was a very hot and sweaty event...

    Ryman Auditorium nice venue.

    by M. on 3/20/19Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

Was in Nashville only 2 nights. Wanted to go to show at iconic Ryman Auditorium. Friday night show sold out. This was not my particular type of music. Lead in band played for over 45minutes. Then almost 45minute break. Acoustics were not good. Could barely understand words sung. Was sitting in orchestra level 2/3 way back-so not like i was in balcony all the way back. Venue intersting to see-glad I went, wished bands were better. Many people attending seemed to enjoy. A LOT of people, including myself, left early.

    Better than I expected!

by LMB on 3/18/19Revolution Live - Ft Lauderdale

Better than I expected! The venue was perfect as you had a view of the stage from so many angles. Kurt sounds just as good live as he does on the record, maybe even better. The opening band was also pretty capturing - “The Sadies”. So glad I could make it to the show at such a good ticket price.

    Mediocre

by JR on 2/25/19Taft Theatre - Cincinnati

The Sadie’s opened and were great. Talented road band that played a great set. Kurt and band came out and just underwhelmed. No energy from band (unlike Sadies) and so many songs just sounded the same. Kurt played heavily off newer albums which doesn’t help.
