This was my first time to see her live and she's very personable and high energy. Her new songs are also more driving than some of her old ones. She played for a solid 90 minutes and gave it her all including many of her hits. The SODO sound system is terrible for vocals. While it sounds fine for normal speaking and even acoustic songs, as soon as you add the full band with electric guitars and driving drums, the vocals get muddy and often unintelligible. This also happened with the opening band, Hurricane Bells. Such a waste of a nice venue.
I had not seen a show at the Showbox SODO and did not know quite what to expect. my ticket said the show was at 8 o'clock, but we came to discover, after we had been there a while that KT was not coming on until 10 o'clock. had i know this, i would have planned my night differently. it ended up messing us up...we were tired and hungry by the time she came on...no seats at that venue...but she sounded great and was delightful to watch next time i will try to find out when they expect the headliner to play and rest and snack accordingly!
I really like several of KT's songs and most of the old ones are ok, but don't stand out. I liked all of the songs she sang at her concert. Her voice was great and her music really moved me.
Seriously - next to Atoms for Peace, this was the best concert I've ever seen. The Showbox at SODO sounded great - energetic without overpowering. If you have any like of her studio music, SEE HER LIVE. Between personality, energy, and sheer talent, she's a great performer and the material is outstanding.
KT isn't coming anywhere near Texas on this tour so I had to I to travel to see her. I flew from Houston to Seatle so you know I had high expectations. Even with those high expectations she blew me away. I would definitely jump on a plane to see her again.
KT was awesome! So full of energy and good humor. She and her band put on a great show!
Outside of being inspired by her talent, I was blown away by her performance, her band and her stage presence... Her interaction with the audience was fun and just down-to-earth... I would have KICKED myself had I not made it to her concert (which I found out about on Facebook), so I am beyond happy that I made it! If you love KT Tunstall, you will be blown away if you see her live!
KT was 'drastically fantastic'! She and her new band looked and sounded great and the intimate venue that the Showbox afforded was a perfect showcase. Got there early and stood 10ft. from her the whole time. It was a pleasure to watch and listen while she did what she so obviously loves to do!
KT Tunstall is an incredible talent. The problem was the volume was way too loud, and the bass overrode her voice so much I couldn't understand the lyrics.
I know this will fall on "deaf ears" (from too many dB) but I will say it any way. I have gone to many concerts over 40 some years and am incredibly disappointed in the extreme volume levels that most venues think is necessary. When I listen to music on the radio, CD's, etc. I can hear lyrics, the lead singer, harmonies and individual instruments. Based on the quality and beauty of that music, I try to see new artists to remain current and vital in the music scene...then I go to the concert and the volume is so loud that I can never hear more than about 1 or 2 lyrics, all of the instruments run together and drown each other out. Is that really why the artist wrote those wonderful lyrics when no one can understand them? Do they have all of those different instruments and talented musicians putting in all that time to become good so that in concert the sound becomes a loud, indistinguishable blob? That's a shame for everyone! It's too bad common sense doesn't prevail - I think most people would appreciate reasonable sound levels at concerts that more resemble the artists true vision of their music.
KT is a great guitarist and rocker. She has a great voice and knows how to put on a show. She can go far with a better band. Her band was not as superb as she is.
KT and her gang were dressed to kill (or like dead?), in full Halloween dead rocker regalia. the tunes were lively, soulful, and powerful. only drawback, sound system too loud and a bit distorted... Catch her when you can!
She was amazing! I've been waiting 5 years to see her and was lucky to get to see her US opening show in Portland on Halloween. She and the band dressed up as dead rock stars... great touch! They truley rocked, the sound was great and KT was amazing live. I can't wait to see here again!
KT is so full of energy -- i always worry about the sound and performance at a concert not matching up to the quality of a studio cut -- not a problem with her. The music was fantastic and her energy was great to see. You cannot help but connect with this group of perfectly orchestrated band members...Absolutely wonderful. It was also our first time at the Crystal Ballroom..we managed to get balcony seats even tho most of the show was GA on the main floor. We had a great view of the whole show and loved it.
KT was brilliant and Hurricane Belles was a nice bonus. Would have preferred an earlier start and better acoustics (too loud for me at times---thank god for earplugs).
She was explosive and her new band gelled beautifully. I even loved the opening act. That being said, I was really disturbed at the volume level, especially the bass line. There is no need to crank up the PA that loudly in front of only 1,000 people. Also, a lot of people in the audience were older (over 30) and have children, so we were among a bunch of people who had to leave because it was a school night. If you're going to have a concert on Sunday night, 8 is the latest it should start. We cannot stay at a concert until 11:30 or midnight...even if it's Halloween. Otherwise, we can't wait for KT to come back to Portland.
One of the best shows i have ever seen. Not only is Tunstall a great artist and performer, she's now backed by an equally talented band. They clearly had a lot of fun playing together. The setlist was good, too. Even though it was predominately new music from the new album (meaning, i didn't know it already), i did not feel like i was missing out. She presents her new work well, and will not disappoint old fans.
I think the band thought they were playing in a 10,000 audience arena, it was that loud, but they were in a small venue and the volume blew us away, and not in a good way. I saw people everywhere with tissue stuck in their ears. I think the volume distracted from the talent and basically ruined the show for me. C'mon sound crew, get in touch with what it's really like for the audience and adjust accordingly. I still like KT and have her albums but would not go to a live show again or to anyone at the Crystal Ballroom (McMenamin brothers are you listening)?
KT and her band hit the Crystal Ballroom on Halloween night. They were GREAT. The venue isn't the best for acoustics, but she still rocked. Played all the songs (I think) from Tiger Suit and some old favorite ones. GREAT SHOW
