About

Kris Kristofferson on Tour

When Kris Kristofferson hits the stage, it's clear why he's become a legend of outlaw country. He plays it like he feels it — as an unfancy, master singer-songwriter, sometimes with a band and sometimes without, strumming his acoustic guitar and delivering his game-changing songs with well-weathered style. His character-rich voice lets you know he's been around the block more than once, and the songs combine a poet's command of language with a country singer's knack for putting things together organically so they go down easy. Along the way, he slips in his one-of-a-kind perspective on things. He might be unpacking the wistful romanticism of "Me and Bobby McGee" or depicting the morning-after madness of "Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down," but he always makes you see the world a bit differently.

Kris Kristofferson in Concert

After Kris Kristofferson first started making waves in Nashville in the late '60s, country music (and American music) was forever changed. Singer-songwriters had never written so frankly about sensuality, and country had never had its own Bob Dylan before. With Kristofferson came a glorious collision of poetry-laden lyrics and countercultural sensibilities with the attitude of rock 'n' roll and the template of classic country. Besides making waves with his own albums, he reached into our collective conscience through his songs' numerous covers, performed by artists like Janis Joplin ("Me and Bobby McGee") and Sammi Smith ("Help Me Make It Through the Night"). Before the '70s were over, his natural charisma and chiseled countenance had helped make him a movie star too, with films like Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore and A Star Is Born. Later he became a member of legendary supergroup The Highwaymen, alongside Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson. As the decades passed, Kristofferson has never backed away from his commitment to write and perform to the utmost of his abilities. He's a true-blue American legend.

  • Best Ever..5 Stars

by John on 4/28/19Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

We've seen many very good performances at the Birchmere. This was the best ever!!! We've also seen Kris Kristofferson before at the Birchmere several years ago. He was solo at the time and still suffering from chronic Lyme Disease and that performance was only so-so. Kris has adopted Merle Haggard's "The Strangers" band and it was obvious that they had all extensively practiced their playlist together. Great show...5 Stars! And, the food service by Kathryn was also exceptional, even refilled our coffee cup. I hope very much that Kris Kristofferson and The Strangers will sometime make a recording of their current playlist.

  • A very disappointing evening

by David on 4/28/19Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 1 out of 5

Kris looked good for his years, but everything else was very disappointing, particularly given the high ticket prices. His voice has never had a large range, but he could barely manage an octave or follow the tune. The best songs were when one of his band members took the lead vocals. It's not clear why he needed the band (apart from singing). The accompaniments were sparse, to be kind and the violinist added nothing at all. A saddened to a distinguished career. We were by no means the only ones to leave early.

  • Like a Fine Wine, Kris Gets Better with Age

    by J. on 4/28/19Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

I was fortunate enough to sit directly in front of the stage for the second of two shows at The Birchmere. Kris, with the backing of The Strangers delivered a set of 30 songs including hits Me & Bobby McGee, For the Good Times, Help Me Make it through the Night, and Why Me Lord. Included were covers of several Merle Haggard, sung by Merle’s sons, Ben and Noel, who play lead and rhythm guitar in the band. Whether you are a life-long fan of Kris or a newcomer to his music, you realize that you are seeing a legend perform.

  • Not what we expected!

    by Jen P on 4/28/19Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

Kris at 82 year old to put on over 2 hour show with 30 songs was really amazing. We thought an hour tops! The Strangers were great singing Merle Haggard classics!! So glad to have this concert experience!!

Very good show, the theater was very nice. Kris put on a excellent show. not overwhelmed with lights, smoke and volume to load like most shows now days. I highly recommend going to see him and I highly recommend the Maryland Theater

  • Kris is still going strong!

    by #1Fan on 4/26/19The Maryland Theatre - HagerstownRating: 5 out of 5

Kris Kristofferson put on an excellent concert in Hagerstown, MD, on Tuesday, April 23rd! He sang for 45 minutes; took a 15 minute break; and sang for another hour! His back-up band was Merle Haggard's band "The Strangers" with Merle's son on guitar, and they did an excellent job. Kris still looks handsome as ever and sings even better with age. He sang all of his top hits as well as some of his newer ones along a few Merle Haggard hits sprinkled in. Great concert! I will continue to go see Kris as long as he continues performing-this was the sixth live concert of his that I have attended. This venue has excellent seats and acoustics.

  • one of the best

by Justin on 4/26/19The Maryland Theatre - HagerstownRating: 5 out of 5

Kris Kristofferson's music found me about 15 yrs ago, I wish it had found me before that. I fell in love with his sound and songs. His words touched something in me that my bones where aching to know.

Beautiful theatre in which the performance was held. Not my taste in music, and his voice is obviously not the best.

  • Great concert!

by Plpwman on 4/26/19The Maryland Theatre - HagerstownRating: 5 out of 5

Top notch concert! Kris at his age gave us two hours of great music. The strangers were a great fit to have ad his band. Merle's two sons and the rest of the group are great musicians.

  • Old Friend still has it

    by R. M. on 4/23/19Chevalier Theatre - MedfordRating: 4 out of 5

Kris is great, his voice is sounding the effects of age, but his combination with the Strangers, Merle Haggard Band, especially his son, was amazing. The band brought new life to the many amazing songs Kris has written over the years, I would go and see him again anytime if he works with the Strangers.

  • A living legend!

by Jerry on 4/22/19Chevalier Theatre - MedfordRating: 5 out of 5

Two full sets with a 15 minute intermission. No lag time before or during performance. One song right after another. Very entertaining. The theater staff are courteous from sidewalk to seat.

  • Great Show

  • Outlaw Music at Its Most Beautiful

by AmyK on 4/22/19Chevalier Theatre - MedfordRating: 5 out of 5

Kris was stunning on stage, with more charisma and stage presence than ever, if that is possible. Teaming up with (Merle Haggard's) The Strangers was brilliant, lending even more vitality to the performance. Kris' renditions of "Help Me Make It Through The Night" and "Loving Her Was Easier" were both devastatingly beautiful, bringing me to tears. The Strangers versions of Merle Haggard's songs, for instance "I Think I'll Just Stay Here and Drink" were lively and in the true tradition the Hag. An absolutely wonderful show, I loved every minute of it.

  • Fabulous!!

It was so fun to see Kris after all of these years! Totally loved it...just wish that we had better seats...

  • Kris - the Ultimate Songwriter

by Sopping Wet on 4/22/19Chevalier Theatre - MedfordRating: 3 out of 5

I adore Kris and have seen him numerous times. His songs are my favorites in country music. His concerts are magical. Although he was never much of a talker, he spoke only a few words during this concert and I thought his voice was softer than the last time I saw him a couple years ago when I thought his voice was terrific. I love watching him and listening to his songs and that will never change. I thought The Strangers were very good and really complimented Kris.

  • Good time

Kris was wonderful to hear. Sang some great songs and had a very good band with him. We really enjoyed ourselves. Would definitely recommend this show.
