About

Kris Kristofferson on Tour

When Kris Kristofferson hits the stage, it's clear why he's become a legend of outlaw country. He plays it like he feels it — as an unfancy, master singer-songwriter, sometimes with a band and sometimes without, strumming his acoustic guitar and delivering his game-changing songs with well-weathered style. His character-rich voice lets you know he's been around the block more than once, and the songs combine a poet's command of language with a country singer's knack for putting things together organically so they go down easy. Along the way, he slips in his one-of-a-kind perspective on things. He might be unpacking the wistful romanticism of "Me and Bobby McGee" or depicting the morning-after madness of "Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down," but he always makes you see the world a bit differently.

Kris Kristofferson in Concert

After Kris Kristofferson first started making waves in Nashville in the late '60s, country music (and American music) was forever changed. Singer-songwriters had never written so frankly about sensuality, and country had never had its own Bob Dylan before. With Kristofferson came a glorious collision of poetry-laden lyrics and countercultural sensibilities with the attitude of rock 'n' roll and the template of classic country. Besides making waves with his own albums, he reached into our collective conscience through his songs' numerous covers, performed by artists like Janis Joplin ("Me and Bobby McGee") and Sammi Smith ("Help Me Make It Through the Night"). Before the '70s were over, his natural charisma and chiseled countenance had helped make him a movie star too, with films like Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore and A Star Is Born. Later he became a member of legendary supergroup The Highwaymen, alongside Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson. As the decades passed, Kristofferson has never backed away from his commitment to write and perform to the utmost of his abilities. He's a true-blue American legend.

I just hope his visit to Salina, KS was as rewarding to him as it was to me...I am so glad I got the opportunity to see and hear him...it just makes me appreciate him more than I already do...He is so down to earth, and so personable...you just want to sit down and have a cup of coffee and chat for awhile...I hope he gets to come back and see us some time..

  • Kris Kristofferson....best show ever!

by pidgee on 2/8/10Ryman Auditorium - NashvilleRating: 5 out of 5

I saw Kris Kristofferson at the Ryman, and it was the best show that i have ever seen in my 50 years. He simply walked on the stag and did what he does best. No need for an opening act, no fireworks or other distractions, just the man and his music. He is by far the best songwriter of our time. It was an honor to see him live.

  • Kristofferson...Priceless!

by beachherbie on 2/7/10Ryman Auditorium - NashvilleRating: 5 out of 5

I thought the Kristofferson concert was excellent. Kris was funny, personable and sounded great. He was genuinely touched to be singing at the Ryman and thrilled with the response from the audience. What a thrill for us to get to see him perform at the Ryman. Great Concert!

loved the venue. Kris has mellowed, and yet is still Kris. loved the old songs, and the vibe of having him sing his songs for the appreciative audience.

  • Magical night with Kristofferson

by Homegal on 2/5/10Ryman Auditorium - NashvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Kris Kristoffereson had the Ryman audience enthralled. He shared a treasure trove of wonderful, poetic, thoughtful and entertaining songs that spanned his career. His audience loved and appreciated this master songwriter-singer and Kris returned the sentiment. An unforgettable, unique artist in a beautiful, historic venue!

  • Kris Kristofferson- a man of reflection

by DickSteig on 2/3/10North Charleston Performing Arts Center - North CharlestonRating: 5 out of 5

Kris was great, humble, grateful for audience appreciation. You could hear and understand every word. The melancholie in his life expressed thru wit and charm, yet warmly done, set in poetry accompanied by rolling music.

  • Watching History

by walkinghistory on 2/2/10North Charleston Performing Arts Center - North CharlestonRating: 4 out of 5

Kris has lived a long and full-circled life. I am young and his music was before my time, but growing up I loved the rebellious cynicism. I was hooked. I am a bit older now and learning many life lessons about the choices that we make. Kris has been there, done that and now wears his memories on his sleeves. His message rings out, just as much as the history he holds. This was my first performance to attend, and I am sure not Kris' best appearance; however I wouldn't have traded the opportunity for most anything!

This was my first time seeing him in person and I loved it!! He puts on a great show!! I had such a great and would go to see him again if given the chance !! My husband and I both went to the concert, but he almost did not go due to being ill most of the week, but on the day of the concert he said he felt better and did not want to miss the show. He got the tickets from me as a Christmas/Birthday gift and could not wait for the show. We had great seats and talked about it for days.

  • Kristofferson was fantastic!

by SmoothTalker on 2/1/10North Charleston Performing Arts Center - North CharlestonRating: 5 out of 5

Enjoyed every minute of the show. Kristofferson was every bit as good as I remembered him. Most of the songs I knew, but he also did many others that he had written that I had never heard before, which made it all the more special. He is a true Icon!

  • Pure Kristofferson

by homeonthefarmjohn on 2/1/10North Charleston Performing Arts Center - North CharlestonRating: 5 out of 5

As our MC was announcing he said he had waited a lifetime to see Kris and I think it was well worth the wait. The venue was set great, every word could be heard. Most people probably do not realize how many songs Kris has written over the years, but they took me from laughter to near tears reminiscing where I was when I heard his music. Great show.

I thought it was a great performance. Kris is witty and passionate. Although he had difficulty staying on tune at times, I still enjoyed his husky, sexy voice. His lyrics are so down-to-earth, logical and exceptional. Truly an amazing artist.
