About

Kris Kristofferson on Tour

When Kris Kristofferson hits the stage, it's clear why he's become a legend of outlaw country. He plays it like he feels it — as an unfancy, master singer-songwriter, sometimes with a band and sometimes without, strumming his acoustic guitar and delivering his game-changing songs with well-weathered style. His character-rich voice lets you know he's been around the block more than once, and the songs combine a poet's command of language with a country singer's knack for putting things together organically so they go down easy. Along the way, he slips in his one-of-a-kind perspective on things. He might be unpacking the wistful romanticism of "Me and Bobby McGee" or depicting the morning-after madness of "Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down," but he always makes you see the world a bit differently.

Kris Kristofferson in Concert

After Kris Kristofferson first started making waves in Nashville in the late '60s, country music (and American music) was forever changed. Singer-songwriters had never written so frankly about sensuality, and country had never had its own Bob Dylan before. With Kristofferson came a glorious collision of poetry-laden lyrics and countercultural sensibilities with the attitude of rock 'n' roll and the template of classic country. Besides making waves with his own albums, he reached into our collective conscience through his songs' numerous covers, performed by artists like Janis Joplin ("Me and Bobby McGee") and Sammi Smith ("Help Me Make It Through the Night"). Before the '70s were over, his natural charisma and chiseled countenance had helped make him a movie star too, with films like Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore and A Star Is Born. Later he became a member of legendary supergroup The Highwaymen, alongside Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson. As the decades passed, Kristofferson has never backed away from his commitment to write and perform to the utmost of his abilities. He's a true-blue American legend.

  • An Icon Who Still Has the Magic

    by ConcertGirlAt59 on 5/6/17The Wilbur - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

I went with my mom to recapture the great country music of long ago. Kris still has his wonderful voice and style and was such an entertainer with the audience. There was just him and his acoustic guitar and it was truly magical. I feel honored and humbled to have been in the presence of such a great man. The room was packed with so many fans and yet we felt like we were in his living room. Just an amazing show! Thank you Kris for your gift of music to the world.

Kristofferson was excellent! It is hard to believe the tremendous number of great songs he's written and even harder to imagine him 80+ years old being able to remember and sing as many as he did. Show was everything one would expect it to be: great songs, pure entertainment and wonderful to sit back and enjoy. He came out at 7:30 by himself, played for 45 minutes, took a 15 minute break, and came out again all by himself for the remainder of the evening. It was just a great show!

Amazing show. Watching Kris Kristofferson stand up there with just a guitar and a harmonica singing the classic songs that he has written throughout his career gave me chills. Better than the last time I saw him!

Great show as always. Never disappoints! Great set list. Would definitely see again ... even though this was my 6th time!

Excellent show, played everything you would imagine he would. Didn't miss anything. Amazing show for an 80 yr old man alone with his guitar and harmonica.

  • Kris Kristofferson was amazing.

For an 90 minutes you could have heard a pin drop as Chris sang his hits and other favorites. I would go see him again if I get the chance.

  • Kristofferson was epic!

I so enjoyed hearing Kris sing, even though his voice isn't what it used to be.

  • EXCELLENT - Nostalgic

by dmgIII on 4/11/17Uptown Theater - Kansas CityRating: 5 out of 5

The legend was amazing. Probably the best concert I've been to (and I've attended plenty) Like a fine tuned instrument, he stood alone.. his guitar and he and brought back memories! Sure he has aged, who among us hasn't. It was great with no opening act. Just a night with Kris.

  • 80 years old and still going.

    by BG71 on 4/11/17Uptown Theater - Kansas CityRating: 5 out of 5

He's old, decrepit and barely has any voice left. And as one of his songs goes "feeling mortal." But like the Roman Coliseum, he's still mesmerizing to see and listen to. Just Kris, his guitar and a harmonica. Fortunate to have gotten to see him twice in the past year.

  • Kris Was Amazing!

by Fullfilleddream on 4/10/17Uptown Theater - Kansas CityRating: 5 out of 5

Last Wednesday night was a night to remember and treasure. He sang song after song, and the crowd loved him! Most were the tried and true oldies that made Kris legendary. The nearly two hours total, Kris was on stage, flew by in a twinkling. When he capped off the evening by singing as his encore "Please Don't Tell Me How The Story Ends", I doubt there was a dry eye in the house. To say I hope this is NOT " our last good night together" would be an under statement, But if it is, I'll always be glad I have that wonderful last night, hearing Kris, to remember and look back on, the rest of my life! Kris, without question, Kansas City LOVED YOU!!

Kris is 80 years old, but you would never know it. He played two sets for a total time of an hour and 45 minutes. It was amazing how many songs I recognized. Best concert in a long time.

  • A Memorable Evening

by EGCB on 4/8/17Uptown Theater - Kansas CityRating: 5 out of 5

While at 81, his voice is not as strong as it once was, I wouldn't have missed this concert for anything. The first time I saw him, I too, was 40 40 years younger, but his words and the passion he puts into them, haven't changed a bit. His songs are finely crafted poetry and are indeed, the soundtrack of my life. I loved everything about this show, and it was clear that he still enjoys a very special bond with his audience. It truly felt like he loves us as much as we love him.

  • GREAT SHOW!!! Thank you, Kris Kristofferson!!

This show was a surprise for my husband whom really wanted to go. I knew I'd have a good time too but it was better than I thought! My husband LOVED it too!!

  • Kris Kristofferson - Unbeleivable - Great!

by MGChaosAcres on 4/7/17Missouri Theatre Columbia - ColumbiaRating: 5 out of 5

This was on my bucket list. For an hour and half it was just Kris singing his songs on stage. Sounded great! Just kinda wish he talked a little more, but I believe that's not his reason to be on tour - let's hear his music! Which we did. This is the first concert I have ever attended that started on time and the sound crew was in place and it was very organized.

  • Kris Kristofferson was fantastic!!!!!!

    by Heart4u2 on 4/7/17Missouri Theatre Columbia - ColumbiaRating: 5 out of 5

I Have never seen him sing and play the guitar so well in a long time. He did an incredible job and I adored every second he was on stage. His choice of songs were from albums I have and have always loved. It was good to hear them again by the great artist, genius and poet that he is. I was blown away at how good his voice is and grateful that he is well. I am thankful I got to see him and hope to see him again.

  • Kris Kristofferson was fantastic!!!!!!

    by Heart4u2 on 4/7/17Missouri Theatre Columbia - ColumbiaRating: 5 out of 5

I was extremely excited to see him again and gratified by his performance which was memorable and heartfelt. I especially enjoyed the older songs from the many albums I play but have never heard him sing at concerts. "Jody and the Kid" brought tears to eyes as did his last three songs. Wonderful concert. He was on pitch except for a few gravelly moments and made the concert just wonderful! I adore the man, his poetry, his fervent quest for justice which is conveyed in many of his songs, his fun songs and his classics. Thank you Kris Kristofferson for an incredible evening. I hope to see you again and experience the magic you do so eloquently. I would recommend this event to all my friends and relatives.

  • Kris's Performance

    by MO00 on 4/7/17Missouri Theatre Columbia - ColumbiaRating: 5 out of 5

Being in the company of a legend is sufficient to allow one to overlook the fact that at 81, his voice is not comparable to his younger years. His mind is still sharp, and his ability to perform for nearly two hours is impressive. Of course, his lyrics will never lose their ability to make us realize his great talent.

  • Blown Away!!!

by BigSpike on 4/7/17Missouri Theatre Columbia - ColumbiaRating: 5 out of 5

For any fan of Kris' music, the opportunity to witness the magic of his songwriting should not be passed up. The theatre was a gorgeous ornate place, much like an extremely miniature Fox. This made for a very intimate feel that contributed to the awesomeness of the performance. As for the performance.... All I can say is, "WOW"!!!! He played every one of his classics one after another. I can't think of a single one he missed. At the age of 80, time has taken a little toll on his voice, but, that hardly mattered as the Troubadour stood up there and belted out one after another. It was three days ago and I am still on a huge high from the show. Now, this comes from somebody who sees a lot of different shows every year by artists of an extremely varied ilk. From modest mouse to willie Nelson to Dead and company, I must say this show has had more staying power, emotionally, than any of the previously mentioned. Seriously folks, go see it and feel the magic for yourself!!!!
