About

Kris Kristofferson on Tour

When Kris Kristofferson hits the stage, it's clear why he's become a legend of outlaw country. He plays it like he feels it — as an unfancy, master singer-songwriter, sometimes with a band and sometimes without, strumming his acoustic guitar and delivering his game-changing songs with well-weathered style. His character-rich voice lets you know he's been around the block more than once, and the songs combine a poet's command of language with a country singer's knack for putting things together organically so they go down easy. Along the way, he slips in his one-of-a-kind perspective on things. He might be unpacking the wistful romanticism of "Me and Bobby McGee" or depicting the morning-after madness of "Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down," but he always makes you see the world a bit differently.

Kris Kristofferson in Concert

After Kris Kristofferson first started making waves in Nashville in the late '60s, country music (and American music) was forever changed. Singer-songwriters had never written so frankly about sensuality, and country had never had its own Bob Dylan before. With Kristofferson came a glorious collision of poetry-laden lyrics and countercultural sensibilities with the attitude of rock 'n' roll and the template of classic country. Besides making waves with his own albums, he reached into our collective conscience through his songs' numerous covers, performed by artists like Janis Joplin ("Me and Bobby McGee") and Sammi Smith ("Help Me Make It Through the Night"). Before the '70s were over, his natural charisma and chiseled countenance had helped make him a movie star too, with films like Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore and A Star Is Born. Later he became a member of legendary supergroup The Highwaymen, alongside Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson. As the decades passed, Kristofferson has never backed away from his commitment to write and perform to the utmost of his abilities. He's a true-blue American legend.

A legend in a tiny venue

by Tom on 2/7/20Parker Playhouse - Ft Lauderdale

Voice is the same deep gravel. He’s funny but there’s not a lot of talk between songs. Highly recommend.

    Disappointing

by So Fl on 2/7/20Parker Playhouse - Ft Lauderdale

Seemed like no one did a sound check. His voice was muffled- too close to microphone, some of the music sounded distorted as well. His backup band managed to make every song sound exactly the same. He still sounded pretty good for 83, but the sound was so bad we left partway through. I really didn’t like the band. They did him a disservice.

    Wonderful

by GraySquirrel on 1/15/20Barrymore Theatre - Madison

I was glad to hear and see Kris. It was the right environment -- the right-size room and fairly close to the stage. I don't want to be in large crowds anymore and deal with parking near those events. The last few events I have attended were at the Barrymore. I had a number of cds of Kriss and some of the Highwaymen. After the event I found a large collection of 19 cds that I picked up. So I will always remember the event.

    Bad

by d. on 11/30/19Kiva Auditorium at the Albuquerque Convention Center - Albuquerque

Unfortunately he has aged way to much. His voice was gone barely understandable. I could see him with the guitar but he barely worked the strings. I am sorry to give this poor of a review. He was not worth the money spent on the tickets.

    Fun Night

by Coopfour on 11/29/19Paramount Theatre - Denver

My friend talked me into going. I am so glad I did. There was not a lot of flash and gimmicks just gentle, loving music. Kris dove right into the first song his backup band smoothly accompanying him. Occasionally Kris added a little dialogue from his long history in entertainment. The music was refreshing and well received by the delighted audience. I highly recommend seeing Kris Kristofferson if you get the chance.

Amateur production for what should be a pro venue

by wishbone on 11/28/19Paramount Theatre - Denver

Kris is a legend and brings the songs. He wasn't particularly strong but still good to see him. The front stage lights kept going out in the middle of songs, leaving the band dark from the front, then winkled come back on in the middle of songs. Other times lights in the front of the floor from the front truss would come on, lighting the 1st 10 rows like the sun. Crazy crashing lights are not would I would expect for such a prominent venue and for those kind of ticket prices. Get it together, Paramount Theatre.

Disappointing show. Got to hear the songs but almost no interaction with the crowd. Little emotion.

    Privilege

by Merch Girl on 11/27/19Paramount Theatre - Denver

Wow! Just wow! This event was everything i had hoped for ...and then some. Kris stepped into the spotlight right on time and began to sing. Every song was so special and the Merle Haggard tunes were perfect. Cash for merch was ok but had hoped for a t-shirt. Lighting in the Paramount was iffy but that had zero impact on the performance and it is a 1932 incredible space. I saw an icon perform and it was an honour.

Me & Bobby McGee worth price of admission!

by Claybo on 11/27/19Kiva Auditorium at the Albuquerque Convention Center - Albuquerque

Kris is amazing at his youthful 83 yrs. young! Powerful voice, great stamina, good looks! Merle haggard’s “strangers” makes an excellent back up band! Performance was 60 minutes then 30 minutes on second set. Very interesting story teller with peaceful easy feeling Sunday morning coming down vibe! Loved ‘me and Bobby McGee’ especially by the original writer! That was worth the price of admission! And I sang every word that driver knew.

    Great Moment!

    by G. H. on 11/27/19Paramount Theatre - Denver

I've followed him for half a century. Truly a legend. My second time in the Paramount audience to experience Kris Kristofferson. Speaking of which, the audience rewarded Kris with warmth, appreciation and affection and he was genuinely touched. At my age (70) and his (83), more than likely it'll be our last chance to see each other. And I'm O.K. with that 'cause it was a fabulous time.

    Every song that driver knew

    by H. S. on 11/27/19Paramount Theatre - Denver

If you’re looking to hear the quintessential songs of this music icon this is a concert you don’t want to miss. While his voice may show the years his stamina is still vibrant and you’ll hear just about every Kristofferson song you “and that driver” knew.

Show was AWESOME...seating map on Ticketmaster was WRONG!

by dinkspladder on 11/27/19Paramount Theatre - Denver

I purchased a ticket online. Based on the map of the venue at time of purchase, I was to be on the front row of the Club Level. When I arrived at the venue the seat was on the second row. View was obstructed but the ticket was still full price!

There is no one else like Kristofferson! Great concert for a trip down memory lane -- but still relevant and cutting edge. Great backup band!

    Bucket list item checked off!

by Karen on 11/26/19Kiva Auditorium at the Albuquerque Convention Center - Albuquerque

Attending a Kris Kristofferson concert has been on my bucket list for years. Saturday, I was able to place a check mark next to his name. I was not disappointed. His voice is strong and true. He sang most of my favorites, but then all of his songs are on my favorite list. If he ever comes back, I will buy tickets and see him again. Kris is multi-talented and a pleasure to see and hear. Thank you Kris, you Silver-Tongued Devil! The Kiva Auditorium is small enough to be intimate and has great acoustics. Very satisfied with my experience.

    Evening with a Poet

by Dan on 11/26/19Kiva Auditorium at the Albuquerque Convention Center - Albuquerque

The concert was memorable. Simple, no special effects. Just three musicians and a poet. Kris did all his favorites. Just a simple "Thank You," after each number then immediately on to the next. 2 hours minus 15 minute intermission. Scott Joss's strong beautiful voice helped fill in around Kris's signature vocals. An evening to remember. The Kiva staff were extremely friendly and helpful in every respect. Very interested in helping you have a good evening. Disappointed in the Albuquerque audience. Large number of very late arriving. Just straggled in up to 30 minutes after show started. Constant shuffling around to get people over those already seated. If I had been Kristopherson, I would have said, we'll just stop here, let you inconsiderate boobs get seated and the staff can let us know when we can start again. Same thing after the intermission. Doors should have shut when the concert started (right on time). Tell those stragglers, you can be seated at the intermission. Then we had the cell phone photographers standing up, walking toward the stage. Thought photography and recordings were not permitted. If that's your policy enforce it. Many instances of rude behavior at an event that is not likely to come to Albuquerque again.
