About

The multimedia project Kraftwerk was started in 1970 by Ralf Hütter and Florian Schneider.  They set up their electronic Kling Klang Studio in Düsseldorf, Germany, where they conceived and produced all Kraftwerk albums.  By the mid 1970’s Kraftwerk had achieved international recognition for their revolutionary electronic ssoundscapes and their musical experimentation with robotics and other technical innovations.  With their visions of the future, Kraftwerk created the soundtrack for the digital age of the 21st century.  Their compositions, using innovative techniques, synthetic voices and computerised rhythms, have had a major international influence across an entire range of music genres: from electro to hip hop, from techno to synthpop.

In their live performances, Kraftwerk – Ralf Hütter, Henning Schmitz, Fritz Hilpert,  Falk Grieffenhagen – illustrate their belief in the respective contributions of both man and machine.

Starting with the retrospective of their Catalogue at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 2012, in recent years Kraftwerk have returned full circle back to their origins within the Düsseldorf art scene of the late Sixties. Bringing together music and perfomance art, their 3-D concerts are a true  "Gesamtkunstwerk – a total work of art.”  The concert series at the MoMA was - among others - followed by further presentations at Tate Modern Turbine Hall in London, Akasaka Blitz in Tokyo, the Opera House in Sydney, the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, and the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin.

In 2014 Ralf Hütter and his former partner were honoured with the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

Wonderful, touching, even more than I expected

by R. B. on 7/9/22Bill Graham Civic Auditorium - San Francisco

It was great to see the band in person. The songs are of course great and the 3D videos to go with them were really well made. You get transported into the world of Kraftwerk for two full hours!

    Lackluster

by Mg on 7/9/22Bill Graham Civic Auditorium - San Francisco

Having seen Kraftwerk 3D before, the bill Grahm civic was not the right venue for such a show. The 3D was flat and the screen was not big enough.

    3D Dynamik

by Michelangelo M on 7/9/22Bill Graham Civic Auditorium - San Francisco

This is the first time that we saw Kraftwerk. I took my daughter so that she can appreciate the roots of electronic music. She has been a Coldplay fan and she picked up the sample from "Computer Love" right away. This was also our first 3d concert show. This was not a music concert; Kraftwerk 3d was an immersive experience in visual and audio art with the "Bauhaus" minimalism of the animation graphics and electronic music. Finally, just to see one of the most influential groups in modern times was a great opportunity. understanding why their music is still relevant and still advanced for our times has elevated Kraftwerk in the pantheon of musical geniuses.

    Woah!

by Capsize on 7/9/22Bill Graham Civic Auditorium - San Francisco

Amazing. I imagined them in the early 70’s and wondered what it would be like to see them before we know so much about electronic music these days.

    Civic theater San Diego 7/3/22

by Joe L. on 7/6/22San Diego Civic Theatre - San Diego

First of all, if you are a fan of Kraftwerk then you know what to expect. Having said that, this is the first time I've seen them live and it was excellent- sound and visuals go hand in hand with them, and both were first rate. I was slightly concerned that the 3D effects might be cheesy, but they came across well. A very enjoyable concert!

Hello, I was at the Kraftwerk show on July 3! I have been a fan since the early eighties! I love their music! This is the first time that I have seen them perform live. I realize there has been changes in the group, but these guys did not miss a beat! The concert in 3D was so awesome! What a great show! So glad I had the opportunity to see Kraftwerk in person!

    KRAFTWERK 3D WOW!!!!

by D. J. on 7/6/22San Diego Civic Theatre - San Diego

Got 3D glasses upon entering my seating area. The two large projectors were several seats down from me on the center balcony. The large projection screen behind the band and the 3D graphics really enhanced my enjoyment of this show. Great job Kraftwerk you rock!

    Bone Jarring Bass

by voicegy on 7/6/22San Diego Civic Theatre - San Diego

Lifelong Kraftwerk fan - this is my 5th Kraftwerk concert - saw them first back in the early 80's in Santa Monica. Something went terribly wrong at the San Diego Civic Theatre on July 3rd. The mixing was way off. First couple sets were OK, but I noticed a 'tonality' issue where things weren't as 'crisp' or nuanced as they should have been. A few more songs in, it was as if whoever was at the controls knew that there was a problem, and decided to 'cover it up' by over cranking the sub-bass to ludicrous level, to where all other levels turned to mud and the vocals were drowned out to unintelligible utterances. First concert I've ever walked out on - half-way through, enough was enough, my rib cage and internal organs were being assaulted and vibrated to where I couldn't stand it anymore. We noticed others were doing the same. Outside, even the glass panels in the building far from the stage were audibly vibrating. Thank goodness I have memories of past concerts, which were excellent.

Electronic minimalist at its best. Really glad I was able to see this act. The 3D effects are nice, and add a very camp feeling. Highly recommended.

by T. V. on 7/4/22Music Hall At Fair Park - Dallas

The seating was awesome, the sound was awesome, and the the 3D tech actually worked. The acoustics of this place are definitely a plus and it is so much nicer in an air conditioned space. The show was as expected. Sehr wunderbar!

    Moody Center goes Electronic

    by P. B. on 7/3/22

What can you say - Kraftwerk is a phenomenally huge influence on any of todayy's techno-electronic-EDM. Ralf Hutter, now 75 in 2022, is the only remaining original and founder. They went thru a repertoire of 16 cuts in 2 hours ranging from a shortened Autobahn from '74 to an extended Tour de France '86. The digital sound was crystal clear and did not not skip like it did on my vinyl back ijn the day- ha ! 3D visuals were on point with or without the glasses. It was refreshing to move to the left of stage/closed bar and groove with 15 others in the Dance Pit - !!!

The venue map was odd. Difficult to determine layout.

by El Deaño on 7/3/22Austin City Limits Live at The Moody Theater - Austin

"Other" sources for tickets, had my section listed as Sold Out. Ticketmaster had it listed as available. The venue, a medium-sized theater, turned out to not have a bad seat in the house. The sound had a tight punchy bass, without blaringly loud overtones. The band, Kraftwerk, did their, minimalist podium magic, while consistently producing profound techno-grooves. The musical adherance to the visuals, presented in stunningly clear 3-d (viewing glasses provided,) were consistently synced. In case one thought it was just/posing lip-synced, a microphone headset failure during a song, was taken care of and afterwards no further glitches. They didn't do the usual crowd-pandering banter, [well except for the UFO landing on-screen, of just outside the building, lol) but, transitioned between songs smoothly. Each took, a solo bow at the end, and different parts of electronica groove, dissappeared from the Music,... A very fine, cohesive, yet avant guarde show.
