About Knoxville Ice Bears
Knoxville Ice Bears at Knoxville Civic Coliseum
The Knoxville Ice Bears hit the ice for another exciting season in the Southern Professional Hockey League. The Knoxville Ice Bears play out of the General James White Memorial Civic Auditorium and Coliseum (usually shortened to Knoxville Civic Coliseum), which opened in 1961 and has a capacity of 5,937. Coach Jeff Carr replaced Mike Craigen before the beginning of the 2017-18 season. The Ice Bears are one of five teams playing in the SPHL, including the Birmingham Bulls, the Huntsville Havoc, the Macon Mayhem and the Pensacola Ice Flyers.
History of the Knoxville Ice Bears
The Marble City has had a decades-long love affair with hockey, with the Knoxville Knights playing in the Eastern Hockey League from 1961 to 1968, and the Knoxville Cherokees of the East Coast Hockey League from 1988 to 1997. Mike Murray was the Cherokees’ all-time leader in points, goals and assists before becoming the Ice Bears’ general manager in 2006. The Knoxville Speed of the United Hockey League played from 1999 until 2002, after which the Ice Bears were founded as a charter member of the Atlantic Coast Hockey League. After one season, the ACHL split into the SEHL (of which the Ice Bears were a member) and WHA 2, with the surviving teams from each league rejoining for the 2004-05 season as the Southern Professional Hockey League.
The Knoxville Ice Bears have been the most successful franchise by far in the SPHL, winning President’s Cup championships in 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2015, and William B. Coffey trophies as the team with the best regular-season record in 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2009. UFC fighter Scott “Hot Sauce” Holtzman, who hails from Knoxville, played two games with the Ice Bears in the 2007-08 season, before pursuing a career in mixed martial arts.

Whoever was running the parking this afternoon needs to be chastised. I left home early and wanted to get to the arena early. It takes me a while to walk in and I like to get a good parking spot. I pull up and for whatever reason, they would not let me pull into the garage I have always parked at on Baker street. instead they forced me to drive up to the next garage and I had to park on the top floor of it. This gave me a very long walk and even worse I had alot of stairs to deal with. Thanks to the jerk responsible for this.....no more games this year...
Enjoyable game experience and nearly full house. Friendly staff for the most part. Desperately need better lighting in the plaza following games as fans walk toward the parking areas as a safety measure. Same lighting issue applies on the pedestrian sky bridge between KCAC and Hotel Knoxville.
We paid premium for box seats, but unfortunately the people in the front row would not sit down. So, we were forced to stand during 90% of the game to see anything. Very disappointed.
Ryan was great to work with us on our group sponsor and tickets.
Nothing really bad to say. Very enjoyable. Would do again
We sat behind the Net on the side of the ice where the IceBears Defend Twice. These seats practically overhang the ice which meant we we completely blocked from the entire goal. Would NOT recommend these seats. Highly recommend a Sideline seat.
There is always an amazing game and always amazing seats but I think the chuck-a-pucks should be free because we sometimes don’t have enough to get them and it’s really fun
My parents and siblings have been coming to watch the Ice Bears for a long time and they never disappoint. I bought someone who has never been to a hockey game to the January 4th game where we went into over time and FINALLY scored the winning shot on the 1v1. Needless to say, now the 6 of us are obsessed with the Ice Bears and will for sure be coming back before the 2020 season is over.
We had good seats the game was great and the Icebears goalie was amazing. But they need to let them be more aggresive.
Excellent game, fun atmosphere, lots of food to choose from, very fun!
Great crowd involvement great food cold beer seats were very good Fun watching them play
Really fun time. Great seats. Can't wait to go to another game.
We were traveling and spent a night in Knoxville to break up the long ride. Was looking for something for the family to do and hit the jackpot with an Ice Bears game. Tickets were inexpensive, venue was convenient and nice, great concession prices and great parking prices. Overall a great experience from cost to venue to the game itself.
my phone die and they would not give me my ticket with my ID SO I had to walk all way back to the car charge my phone miss 1 qt 10 of us. bad front window girl
Another great night with the Ice Bears at the Civic Coliseum. Staff was friendly and helpful, good food and beverage selection, and great prices on the seats.
Easy parking. Easy admission and a wonderful venture.
It was the first time our 13 and 8 year olds have ever been to a hockey game. That had a blast
Box 16, second row. Not such a hot spot when everyone stands throughout the game. Couldn't see much unless my team was down on my end of the ice, which they were...enough to win the game. So, fun times. Can't wait to go again and again.
We enjoyed our stay in Knoxville and the game. Everyone treated us great, the hotel Crown Plaza was great, and when we're back in Knoxville will stay there again
