About Knoxville Ice Bears
Knoxville Ice Bears at Knoxville Civic Coliseum
The Knoxville Ice Bears hit the ice for another exciting season in the Southern Professional Hockey League. The Knoxville Ice Bears play out of the General James White Memorial Civic Auditorium and Coliseum (usually shortened to Knoxville Civic Coliseum), which opened in 1961 and has a capacity of 5,937. Coach Jeff Carr replaced Mike Craigen before the beginning of the 2017-18 season. The Ice Bears are one of five teams playing in the SPHL, including the Birmingham Bulls, the Huntsville Havoc, the Macon Mayhem and the Pensacola Ice Flyers.
History of the Knoxville Ice Bears
The Marble City has had a decades-long love affair with hockey, with the Knoxville Knights playing in the Eastern Hockey League from 1961 to 1968, and the Knoxville Cherokees of the East Coast Hockey League from 1988 to 1997. Mike Murray was the Cherokees’ all-time leader in points, goals and assists before becoming the Ice Bears’ general manager in 2006. The Knoxville Speed of the United Hockey League played from 1999 until 2002, after which the Ice Bears were founded as a charter member of the Atlantic Coast Hockey League. After one season, the ACHL split into the SEHL (of which the Ice Bears were a member) and WHA 2, with the surviving teams from each league rejoining for the 2004-05 season as the Southern Professional Hockey League.
The Knoxville Ice Bears have been the most successful franchise by far in the SPHL, winning President’s Cup championships in 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2015, and William B. Coffey trophies as the team with the best regular-season record in 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2009. UFC fighter Scott “Hot Sauce” Holtzman, who hails from Knoxville, played two games with the Ice Bears in the 2007-08 season, before pursuing a career in mixed martial arts.
Great game my grandsons enjoyed the experience, their 2nd home game and looking forward for more to come!!
I've been going to the Ice Bear hockey games for years and I've always had a good time.
I've been to several Knoxville Ice Bears hockey games, and I've always had a good time
The faculty was extremely sincere and helpful. The arena was clean and the game was awesom! Great job Knoxville!!!
We had so much fun at the Ice Bears game! The seats were great, and the people that sat next to us had season passes and were super sweet! We will for sure be coming back to more ice bear games in the future!
Please come out and support your local athletes. They deserve the money over the rich elite pro athletes.
Super simple experience, staff was well placed around arena to help out anyone in need of assistance. Only complaint is they ran out of pretzels.
Great seats u can sit anywhere thier and see everything
The IceBears and Coliseum put in a great event with a lot of fan interaction. Always fun!
The event was super fun and everyone should enjoy an ice bears game a couple times/season! The music was oftentimes too loud, though, to even carry on a conversation with the person next to me. I get that it’s an arena, but, it needs to be softer Other than that, awesome time! Go Ice Bears!
It was a good night. Good game. Food was decent. Place clean.
The game was good, the fans were polite and it was overall a very good time.
We replayed the first ever date we went on as a couple. We went to a Hockey Game, went Axe Throwing, and ate in Market Square. We wanted to relive our first date as engaged couples and it felt amazing going back to exactly where our Relationship and Futures Together began! We both are huge Hockey Fans and look forward to coming back many more times!!! Our Big Day is 7-17-21
Great game close to the ice. Lots of fan interaction . And this game particularly intense 2-1 final
my son and his wife live in GA and got tix to a Macon Mayhem game. They really enjoyed it so when they found out they were playing the ice bears, we got tix. it was my first hockey gamex but it wont be my last. we had a great time!
My 3 year old daughter & I went to the game this past weekend. Neither of us know hockey all that well, but it was a memorable first game for my daughter. Literally everyone we came in contact with was friendly! - easy to get tix - easy to park - my daughter loved the environment and danced to the music during plays off - ICE BEARS ARE GOOD! - the folks that help you get seated are extremely friendly - the folks sitting beside us were extremely friendly - the crowd interaction is incredible and unmatched!! We will be back!
As a game it was a game. But the seating was very tight and no leg room. As a disabled vet, I can not sit with my legs all tight against me for that long.
Ice bears are always fun and entertaining to watch ice box seats are the best spot to watch
Me and my family had an excellent time and unforgettable moment. Staff were very friendly. Thank you
We visited this past weekend, for both friday and saturdays games. Buying fridays game tickets online and saturdays at the office, once we arrived friday. I asked the lady if the seats we had would be a good choice to use for saturday too. Her only responce was that it is the cheapest area. Not informing us that you can only see 3/4 of the ice. With nothing of one goal side. We ask saturday about changing seats to a side and were not able to do so. We ended up with 2 games of not seeing one goal side of the game.
