About

King Princess in Concert

Mikaela Straus was born to rock - and shock. The Brooklyn-born vocalist, singer, multi-instrumentalist, and producer was surrounded by music as a kid. While her mom worked in fashion, her dad took on the role of recording engineer and owner of Brooklyn's Mission Sound, a studio located in their house. There, Straus learned guitar, bass, piano, drums, and production techniques. She also listened to a lot of hard rock, from Led Zeppelin to Jack White.

By the time she was 11 years old, she had the attention of Virgin Records - but she wasn't quite ready for a record deal yet. Fast forward a few years, and Straus was on her way to the west coast, where she began studying at USC's Thornton School of Music. Only a year into her program, she was ready to pursue music full-time, so she decided to drop out. It turned out to be a smart move.

At just 19 years old, her world changed. As King Princess, she would not only play with the concept of gender but the idea of pop music itself - and it quickly caught on. She released her debut single, "1950," in February 2018 on Mark Ronson's Zelig Recordings label. With her breathy, soulful vocals slinking over simmering electro-pop, it made its way onto the U.S. Alternative charts, peaking at No. 17, and was soon hailed as one of the year's great queer love anthems.

Not long after, she followed up with the sultry "Talia" and then her debut EP, 'Make My Bed.' In support of that release, she played select U.S. dates in the summer, and by November 2018, she made even bigger waves in the world of pop with the release of breezy and bold single "P*ssy is God."

Even without a full-length album to her name, King Princess was quick to hit the touring circuit, already headlining shows throughout Australia and New Zealand in 2018 before kicking off her first major North American tour in 2019.

    queer legend concert

by mika on 11/7/19The Fillmore Philadelphia presented by Cricket Wireless - Philadelphia

King Princess had so much stage presence and her voice was amazing live! Just go see her if you can, trust me. Although, make sure you get to the venue early if you’re short, because you’ll definitely want to be close to the King herself. The openers were also a lot of fun!

    The Meet n Greet

by Ree on 11/7/19The Fillmore Philadelphia presented by Cricket Wireless - Philadelphia

The show itself was awesome. King Princess sounded amazing. She did get a little tipsy towards the end and screw up some of the words but ya know, she was just having a good time. Her voice is beautiful. I was very disappointed by the meet and greet though! I paid over $80 for this meet and greet, no way should it have been that expensive. We were rushed in, didn’t get a chance to say anything to her, maybe about one sentence. They took three pics with our own phone...$80 and they couldn’t have taken it with a professional camera? Also a lot of us had gifts for her but we weren’t allowed to personally give them to her which was a bummer because we couldn’t even see if she liked them or not. I was really sad about that cause I worked hard on my gift and wanted her to see how cool it was. Oh well, at least the show was really awesome.

    Expectations were high

by Ponkin on 11/7/19The Fillmore Philadelphia presented by Cricket Wireless - Philadelphia

But that’s what you get when you really love an artist. Overall, it was just okay. I thought she was a little too drunk, missing music cues, and slow to sing along with her vocal tracks. A little bratty on stage. She’s a great performer and the show was fun though; I think she’ll continue to grow as an artist and will learn what touring is all about.

    INCREDIBLE

by A on 11/2/19House of Blues Boston presented by Cricket Wireless - Boston

So so so so good! The concert started at 8pm and then the openers went until about 9pm. KP sounds and looks even better in person. A queen. I got there at 5pm to wait in line so I could get a good spot. I had to wait in the rain for 2 hours but I got like 3rd row (would have gotten 1st but there were cutters) Anyway, overall, so fire I wanna see her live again!

    Incredible Night!

    by Sophie L. on 11/1/19MTELUS - Montreal

The show was absolutely amazing! The venue was the perfect size and it was by far the best concert we’d ever been to. Girlpool and Denimpusssy were really great opening acts and I will certainly be following them now. The arrangements for the song made the live versions even better than the studio versions! Wish I could relive it!

Way more then what I was expecting

    by G. M. on 11/1/19MTELUS - Montreal

The opening act was good, but the music was covering their voices. This prevented me from fully appreciating their songs and it is why I can't give a five star review. Now let's talk about my King..... She. Was. Simply. Amazing! You would never expect a young women to be so mature in her artistic perfomance. I guess hat it was to be expected from someone who grew up in a musical environement, but I did not expect to be mesmerize. I am truly hers forever and will keep following her growing career.

    Hail King Princess

by Ivious on 10/31/19REBEL - Toronto

If you know of her, you know she is an angel. Her voice, her body language, her cute damn smile. You will enjoy yourself no doubt. While the first opening performance was iffy, the second act, drag queen Taynomi Banks really set the mood. It was a lot of fun and would easily see her again.

    Soooo Good

by keddi on 10/8/19House of Blues Dallas presented by Cricket Wireless - Dallas

We waited outside for general admission for about 3 hours and the weather was really nice in Dallas. When we got in, the venue was very awesome and the perfect size. KP absolutely killed it and we loved every song she sang for us. Also loved the opening acts and overall had a great time.

    Great night - Amazing artist

by tixphilly on 7/12/18The Foundry - Philadelphia

King Princess played a killer show in a great venue. I am so happy I saw her here in this intimate setting before she hits it big. I'm older and more of a fly on the wall taking in the show. I had a great view of the stage where ever I stood. The bartenders were friendly and quick with a drink and you can't ask much more of a venue. The only small thing was the sound - it was really good but not amazing - it did not take away from really enjoying the show.
