KING CRIMSON IN CONCERT:
You can't keep a good band down -- legendary prog rock pioneers King Crimson ended a five-year hiatus in 2014 with the announcement of a fall US tour. The group has called it quits several times over the decades, but their love of music and passion for performing always bring them back to the stage. The band's current lineup -- its eighth since 1969 -- includes founder and primary creative force Robert Fripp alongside three drummers, two guitar players, and a flutist-saxophonist. Beloved for their virtuosic musicianship and extended live jamming, the veteran performers will take fans on an unforgettable musical journey through their hallowed discography on their An Evening with King Crimson tour.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
King Crimson was formed in Dorset, UK in 1968 by guitarist Robert Fripp and brothers Michael and Peter Giles. The band's acclaimed 1969 debut In the Court of the Crimson King established what would become the hallmarks of British progressive rock, with its emphasis on instrumental expertise, use of vanguard musical technologies, and fusion of rock forms with classical and jazz styles. By the time they released their 1970 sophomore album In the Wake of Poseidon the band had already undergone the first of many lineup changes, but despite the shakeup the album still landed at No. 4 on the UK Albums Chart. In the decades that followed, King Crimson's rotating roster of players produced an impressive string of Top 40 albums, establishing them as one of the era's most revered progressive rock acts. Despite several hiatuses over the years, the band continues to reunite for occasional albums and tours. Robert Fripp and Co. thrilled fans once again in 2014 with the announcement of An Evening with Crimson, their highly anticipated fall US tour.
A magical performance by King Crimson in a stories venue.
King Crimson always puts on a great show. And they didn't disappoint this time either. This was the first time I saw The Zappa Band and they were great too. If either bands come back do not miss their show.
It was great listening to the band in the Outdoors at the Mann. The setlist was perfect. The band was tight, and the weather was wonderful.
The TD Pavilion hosted one of the legends of Progressive Rock Music, King Crimson! TD Pavilion ran a very tight ship insuring their patrons safety, from checking belongings of patrons coming into the facility, every patron going through a metal detector, to enforcement of mask wearing. Also the staff said "Thank you for coming tonight" as we were leaving. A great job done by the staff considering what appeared to be several thousands of King Crimson fans. As usual, King Crimson put on a top notch performance! A great concert! An overall great experience thanks to the staff of TD Pavilion.
First time at Mann, beautiful ambiance staff was good the band was fantastic.
I loved how they selected the tracks and how they kept them closer to the original recordings but modestly refreshed. Amazing they have done some is the material for 50+ years. Entire band phenomenal, Jacko's vocals sometimes a little weak but undeniably the best show I've seen this year.
Nice venue. Nice staff. Parking nearby. Food was pricey but that is normal for most venues. Sound is great.
We loved both bands and it was a beautiful night. Our only issue and the one that kept us from giving five stars is that the mask policy was not enforced. At least a third of the people that we saw were not wearing masks, though the venue sent out multiple email stating that they were required. If you can enforce the no photo policy, you can enforce a public health policy.
Zappa band was funky and soulful. King Crimson was sublime. Enough said.
Great show, master musicianship! It was like waking up in the morning with some Frippery behind my eyes.
Good venue trying to keep people safe although a lot without masks. The bands were great.
I waited over 40 years to see King Crimson and it was well worth the wait. With 3 drummers fronting the band along with Fripp and the others made it an amazing performance. I highly recommend seeing them if you can.
There's something special about this band. Every live experience is the greatest concert I've ever attended. You don't think that it can get better than the last time, but somehow it does. All of the players are magnificent, of course, but on this night I felt particularly that Pat and Mel were speaking directly to me through their music. I will never not see the Crims. Also, the venue was pretty nice and the weather was perfect.
Super performance by K.C. Underperforming P.A. costs you a star.
King Crimson was great beyond words! They are the best and put on an amazing show. I would give this 10 stars instead of 5 if I could!
Perfect show. Highly recommended.we definitely watch again.
On a perfect night, perfect venue , great weather, i got to see one of the best live bands i have ever seen, They are the most powerful band ever. so loud and clear. Getting to hear Court of the Crimson King and 21st Century was a highlight of the night and my musical history, To see Tony Levin on Bass and Robert Fripp was a experience i will never forget. to see three drummers playing in front and so well was a magical experience.
The show was amazing. Mr Fripp and the gang were unbelievably good. The venue was very nice with very convenient parking. The staff was very nice and helpful.
I have seen King Crimson many times over the past years and I'm always deeply impressed. The band continues to grow their sound and performance with each year and band iteration. The performance at PNC bank arts center was it was unlike anything I have ever seen before and the sound was unlike anything that I had ever experienced before. Kudos to Robert Fripp and the band for keeping it exciting and fresh year after year. I highly recommend experiencing this for yourself if you're into progressive rock, jazz, or the avant garde. Do yourself a favor and check out King Crimson live.
This line-up has impressive synergy. Plus 3 incredible drummers fronting the stage makes for a Gr8 visual!
