About

KING CRIMSON IN CONCERT:

You can't keep a good band down -- legendary prog rock pioneers King Crimson ended a five-year hiatus in 2014 with the announcement of a fall US tour. The group has called it quits several times over the decades, but their love of music and passion for performing always bring them back to the stage. The band's current lineup -- its eighth since 1969 -- includes founder and primary creative force Robert Fripp alongside three drummers, two guitar players, and a flutist-saxophonist. Beloved for their virtuosic musicianship and extended live jamming, the veteran performers will take fans on an unforgettable musical journey through their hallowed discography on their An Evening with King Crimson tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

King Crimson was formed in Dorset, UK in 1968 by guitarist Robert Fripp and brothers Michael and Peter Giles. The band's acclaimed 1969 debut In the Court of the Crimson King established what would become the hallmarks of British progressive rock, with its emphasis on instrumental expertise, use of vanguard musical technologies, and fusion of rock forms with classical and jazz styles. By the time they released their 1970 sophomore album In the Wake of Poseidon the band had already undergone the first of many lineup changes, but despite the shakeup the album still landed at No. 4 on the UK Albums Chart. In the decades that followed, King Crimson's rotating roster of players produced an impressive string of Top 40 albums, establishing them as one of the era's most revered progressive rock acts. Despite several hiatuses over the years, the band continues to reunite for occasional albums and tours. Robert Fripp and Co. thrilled fans once again in 2014 with the announcement of An Evening with Crimson, their highly anticipated fall US tour.

    King Crimson at The Anthem

    by T. S. on 9/22/21The Anthem - Washington

It was awesome. I saw King Crimson back in 1982 and this topped that show. It was great to see young people in attendance and feel the energy of a live crowd after the whole pandemic. Wonderful show. Thanks

King crimson was awesome. Great jams. Great solos. A fusion of progressive rock, and old school jamming. Enjoyed every minute. Zappa band was great as well carrying the legacy that Frank started decades ago, rock, jazz, and fun. Great double bill.

    Excellent!

by rockdoctor on 9/15/21TD Pavilion at the Mann - Philadelphia

Because there was an opening band this time, the show was shorter (still 1.5 hours) than last time without intermission. They played all their famous songs. Thank you! I was not really familiar with Frank Zappa. But I enjoyed Zappa band. I like Frank Zappa now.

    Sound mix

    by R. M. on 9/15/21Beacon Theatre - New York

The mix was off. Drums were incredibly loud versus the rest of the band, Most of the show, you could only hear Tony & the drums. There were softer passages, solos etc with little or no drums and you could hear the band. Mel was impossible to hear while the band was playing which raises the question why have him there? The mix certainly took a lot from the enjoyment of the performance. The drums were turned down for the last song "Starless" & the encore "21st Century Schizoid Man" What an incredible difference. Seven great musicians, nice to hear all of them I've seen the band before with this setup and am not sure what the issue was, maybe no sound check?

    Concert was awesome

by Lips on 9/14/21The Anthem - Washington

The concert was awesome. I loved listening to both bands but King Crimson ROCKED! We could have done without the ushers stopping directly in front of us every time someone couldn’t find there seats. Flashing the lights and looking into the bright light of the cell phones. There is plenty of room before heading towards the seats to get that done. The food was okay but to pay $11 for a Pizza Pocket that is the size of your palm is ridiculous. The burger was delicious but I had to share it with my husband so he wouldn’t buy anything else that wouldn’t satisfy him. The pretzel with the crabmeat left a lot to be desired. It was cold and the pretzel bites were hard. I realize that it’s suppose to be a treat or an appetizer but you all can do better. We are having dinner before coming to the venue next time.
