About

KEVIN DREW IN CONCERT:

Beloved Canadian singer-songwriter and Broken Social Scene co-founder Kevin Drew remains an indie pop innovator. In 2014 he impressed fans and critics alike with his sophomore solo album Darling. Drew’s pairing of traditional elements like piano and drums with ambient textures and soaring synth lines gave the record an expansive sound, and anthems like "Good Sex" and "You In Your Were" sound larger than life at his eclectic live shows. Whether he's playing cuts from Darling or airing out favorites from his debut album Spirit If..., Drew is a consummate showman who always treats fans to an unforgettable concert experience on tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Kevin Drew grew up in Toronto and attended The Etobicoke School of the Arts, Canada’s oldest arts-focused high school. In 1999 he formed the baroque pop outfit Broken Social Scene with Brendan Canning, and together they led the group to indie rock stardom during the ‘00s. Seminal releases like 2002’s You Forgot It in People and a self-titled 2005 album won the band fans around the world, along with two Juno awards for Alternative Album of the Year. In 2007 Drew made his solo debut backed by the band, and the album was released as Broken Social Scene Presents Kevin Drew, Spirit If… Drew and Broken Social Scene continued to enjoy success in 2010 with the album Forgiveness Rock Record, which topped the Canadian charts and was shortlisted for the year’s Polaris Music Prize. Drew released his sophomore solo album Darlings in 2014, earning praise from critics and fans alike and drumming up excitement for future tour dates.

  • Kevin Drew seemed drunk and was disorganized

by Anonymous on 5/1/14Bowery Ballroom - New YorkRating: 2 out of 5

I love Broken Social Scene and have enjoyed some of Kevin Drew's work over the years. He was completely disorganized on Monday night, the band had to stop to start over on the first song, and his focus was completely lacking. He treated the concert like a congenial night out on the town with his friends--not a professional show that people paid $30 to see. Sometimes he would just ramble for several minutes, unsure of which song to play next. Such dependence on personality might work for someone like Paul McCartney. But I don't want to hear Kevin Drew joke around. I want him to play the bad-ass music he's capable of producing. Two stars because even under the worst conditions, the music was still pretty good. Could've been great.

Lovely performance for anyone obsessed with Kevin Drew or Broken Social Scene. A wonderful revival of the past. The best kind of therapy. Kevin Drew and the band were beyond amazing with their layout of the show and stage presence. Never one dull moment. Intimate crowd, Kevin connected with us and put on a banter.

  • K Drew put on a great show

Great show. Mostly songs from his latest album, but also some other songs from earlier Broken Social Scene, particularly his last "presents" album. Kevin Drew always gives a good show.
