Keiko, is FANTASTIC! Have seen her everytime she's at Birchmere and have ever been disappointed! Looking forward to next year!
Keiko always brings it when she performs. It was quite a surprise for me to also have Art Sherrod on the horns. Keiko's background is exceptional too. The video graphics as the backdrop messed with each song she performed. It was do worth the experience.
This concert was electrifying! Absolutely amazing! Sing after song after song. Keiko was so sweet and gracious and her keyboard performance was brilliant. She and Kurt blended so well together.
What a concert! The talent was just Super Amazing! Keiko, Kirk and the musicians were all phenomenal. Would definitely purchase tickets again to see them xo
My husband and I were really looking forward to seeing Keiko Matsui again. However, we were very disappointed with this concert. It didn't seem like a Keiko Matsui concert. It seemed like a Kirk Whalum concert and Keiko was his guest. While we enjoyed Kirk's music, we really expected to hear a lot more of Keiko's music. We feel ripped off.
It was my first time at the festival and I'll definitely return. What a great way to break a 2-year dry spell from music!
OMG. I didn't realize just how much I missed live jazz until I got to this concert. We have been wanting to see Keiko live for sometime and she did not disappoint. I don't think I've seen piano playing like that! Keiko and Kirk perform really well together and the other musicians who accompanied Keiko and Kirk were all amazing. Especially Andrea, the female guitarist from South Africa/New Zealand. I look forward to the Berks Jazz Fest again next year.
kirk Whalum and Keiko Matsui show was beautiful. Both artists were in rare form, if that is possible for these two seasoned artists!! Tickets need to be distributed, the wi-fi was horrendous during the Berks Jazz and difficult to pick up a signal.
Seamless and amazing collaboration between Kirk and Keiko, enjoyed every moment and can't wait to see them again!
Kirk was excellent. Audience got into his performance. He had a variety of acts. All around great show. My problem was navigating to find the bar code on the electronic ticket. Hard copy print was unaccessible.
We’ve seen Keiko Matsui several times before, and she always puts on a great show. This time, she paired with the incredible Kirk Whalum—first time seeing him. He is so charismatic and talented: added a great dimension to the show. And the band crushed it, to say the least.
I've listed to Keiko Matsui for a while and 2020 was the year I planned to finally see her perform in person. Unfortunately, that did not happen due to the shutdown. However, I'm glad I was able to attend California's first concert since reopening featuring Keiko Matsui. Her band, members from Cuba, Holland, and Brazil ( I cannot remember their names) were excellent and Keiko's performance was spectacular. Her interaction with the audience was great, as were the stories she shared about the inspiration behind each song performed. I'm looking forward to attending another performance by Keiko and I encourage you all to do that same. You will not regret it!
Got to sit close to stage at The Birchmere. First timer. It won’t be my last !
The venue was not so fabulous. The Canyon Montclair. Seats were way too crowded. We sat at the tables where they serve dinner. Wait staff very unprofessional. Dinner was served before salads, they forgot the salads. No wine list, needed to get up and get our own drinks because the wait was so long to get served. This is a new facility, so I will just say they are still working on "getting the bugs out". However, I did speak to the Club Manager at the end of the evening and he said he had heard many, many complaints about the over crowing at the tables, but Corporate office didn't want to make any changes. :(
Had a great time. I was a bit worried at first because I didn't think that the venue would be large enough for her audience. I was pleasantly surprised at the size. I've seen her a few years ago at the Hollywood Bowl but the show here was much more interactive and very personal. She shared her time with the band which a lot of artists don't do and they were outstanding as well. I would love to see her here again in the future. Good job Keiko!
Exceptional performance, she is absolutely amazing
I had never been to Sony Hall or seen Keiko Matsui, but she had Randy Brecker as a guest, so I gave it a try. The musicians were enthusiastic and able. However, I love interesting harmonies, voicings, chord progressions, and melodic turns of phrase during solos, and this music had none of that. The crowd loved it, so we were clearly listing for different things in the music.
Keiko Matsui shows us once again just how awesome she is.For this show she had Randy Brecker playing trumpet it was great he added something new to Keikos usual show which is always great. Her band is awesome always on time and enjoying playing with her the bond is obvious and they are one cohesive unit cranking out some of the best jazz music around today. If you have a chance to see her don't pass it up you will LOVE IT !!
The best yet. Keiko and her band - with Randy Brecker - were awesome.
Awesome show. Would recommend seeing her. She does not disappoint.
