About
Kate Nash was born in 1987 in Dublin and grew up in northwest London. An aspiring actress in her youth, Kate studied drama at the London BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology. A twist of fate in the form of a broken foot left her bedridden and while incapacitated she revisited some unfinished songs she'd written when she was younger. Convinced of their quality, she gigged for a while and published some of her material on MySpace, including the track that shot her to fame, “Caroline's A Victim.”
With the encouragement of fellow singer Lily Allen, Kate released “Caroline's A Victim” in 2007 on the indie Moshi Moshi Records label. Her second single “Foundations” was released through Fiction Records a few months later and was also an immediate hit. Such was the demand that her debut album Made of Bricks was released earlier than planned in August 2007, reaching No. 1 in the UK Album Chart and No. 36 on the US Billboard 200. Appearances at Glastonbury, Isle of Wight and Wireless Festival festivals followed, as well as on many TV shows, including Later with Jools Holland. She won a BRIT award for Best Female Artist, an NME award for Best Solo Artist and a Q award for Breakthrough act in 2008.
In 2009, she founded and became a director of the Featured Artists' Coalition, which lobbies for greater autonomy in the music industry for artists. She also created Kate Nash's Rock 'n' Roll for Girls After-School Music Club, which aims to inspire young women to become interested in writing and performing music. She is politically active and uses her fame and influence to raise money for worthy causes.
In 2010, she released her second album My Best Friend Is You which was produced by Suede's former guitarist, Bernard Butler. Her third album, Girl Talk, was released in 2013. She has collaborated with many famous musicians, including Kano, Lethal Bizzle, Sam Duckworth, Billy Bragg and Willow Smith, and she also produced Watsky's Hey Asshole in 2013. Musically she has been influenced by such diverse artists and bands as The Supremes, John Cooper Clarke, Regina Spektor, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Elvis and Janis Joplin.

I love Kate Nash but the venue was weak!
by MikeyFromMinnie on 5/6/10First Avenue - MinneapolisRating: 2 out of 5No encore!?! What the Hell? Very little previous material, the new material although very good is best appreciated by listening to the CD as the sound quality at this venue sucked!! So the two stars are not for Kate's performance but rather the poor venue. Cheers!
Meh Performance
by Anonymous on 5/6/10First Avenue - MinneapolisRating: 2 out of 5I expected a much better performance from Kate Nash. First of all, it was extremely short, show only lated about an hour. She played a ton of music from her new album (which I can see why), but cd only came out 2 weeks ago and I bought this tickets months ago before I even knew of the album. The opener, SuperCute, is only as good as their name sounds.
Disappointing
by Anonymous on 5/6/10First Avenue - MinneapolisRating: 2 out of 5This was not one of the better concerts I've been to. First, the opening band was 45 minutes late, and when they finally came out, they only played for 15 minutes. This was some band I had never heard of called Supercute, a group of three pre-teen girls that would be more at home with the Jonas Brothers or Miley Cyrus. After they were done, Kate Nash took another 45 minutes to come out, and while her performance was not bad, it was certainly underwhelming. At least the tickets were cheap.

I didn't understand why Supercute was chosen; they were awkward & too young to be performing. If they had been good but young, I would've enjoyed it. But I did not appreciate their music. The conjunction of Supercute & Kate Nash was quite strange to me b/c they were so severely contrasted, yet Kate Nash tried to justify Supercute's presence @ the concert through repeated advocacy for them. The concert didn't jive; it wasn't cohesive as a whole. Also, Kate Nash was quite unfriendly & seemed annoyed to be @ the concert. She was very angry throughout the concert. The show was extremely short; barely 1 hour long. I know Kate's ankle hurts, but I was definitely expecting a more dynamic, upbeat, much longer show. Overall, I had a good time w/ my friend, but the show was disappointing.
Stop talking!
by Saritajo on 5/6/10First Avenue - MinneapolisRating: 3 out of 5Maybe it was because I was upstairs where the liquor was flowing, but people were talking so loudly that I couldn't hear Kate at all. Don't come to a concert to drink and talk to your friends and not listen. I don't need complete silence, but it is rude to the artist and to the other audience members. I was really looking forward to seeing her live. Her piano skills were amazing to watch, even though I couldn't exactly hear the music! There were a few songs that I really wanted to hear, and as far as I could tell she did not perform them, but again...hard to hear.
Kate Nash has changed
by Beccaeb on 5/6/10First Avenue - MinneapolisRating: 2 out of 5Overall I was pretty disappointed in the preformance. First off the show didn't start on time, then after the opening act there was over 45 minutes of set up time for before Kate came on. Kate came on obviously high. Her newer music is so angry and rock styled that it is a dramatic change from the witty upbeat fun lyrics of her first cd. The drum was turned up way to loud making the vocals pretty hard to hear. Kate only played for about 40 minutes and did NOT do an encore, which no one was yelling for her to do. Overall, I had to drive over half an hour home, and was still in bed before 10 p.m., what the heck, Kate? I really expected more, why so angry?
Kate Nash - BEST. CONCERT. EVER.
by LEPIER on 5/3/10Music Hall of Williamsburg - BrooklynRating: 5 out of 5Amazing AMAZING Amazing. She tours about once a year in the USA, and she gives it her ALL when she gets here. MH of Williamsburg is an awesome venue - small, but not tiny. We were right up on the stage, singing along, and Kate shouted out to us!! Good drink specials too - everything on tap for $3. ALSO, recommend Bedford street, the street the venue is off of. ABOUT A MILLION SUPER COOL AND AWESOME BARS, and everyone out on the streets. DO IT. see KN. love her.

Kate Nash is an amazing performer! She is an amazing vocalist and overall musician. The venue was amazing and the vibe was unreplicable. She's so cute. I want to marry her if she wasn't engaged already.

Good, but support bands were apalling! Lovely venue, very intimate.

This was a disappointing show and not at all what I was expecting. Too much screaming/spoken word/punk wanna be and not enough pop. Supercute was more entertaining.

Kate Nash came out with crutches because she hurt her foot but she was still amazing and beautiful even as she hopped back and forth from the keyboard to the guitar. She was so sweet and cool and her vocals were amazing. She belted out the songs with so much energy. It was such a fun concert. She played songs mostly from her new CD (My Best Friend is You) with the exception of Mouthwash and Foundations. Hearing her play the new songs made me love them even more. At the end she signed CDs which was amazing. It was so fun to meet her.
I love Kate Nash
by PocketsFullOfCandy on 5/2/10Music Hall of Williamsburg - BrooklynRating: 5 out of 5She was fantastic! I had such a great time and love her new album. She was full of spunk despite her foot injury. I give her props for still coming out and performing. Darling, delightful and sassy!
Meh...
by MariIyn on 5/2/10Music Hall of Williamsburg - BrooklynRating: 3 out of 5Honestly, I left this gig a little disappointed... There's no doubt Kate Nash is a talented artist, but I felt like the barely 1 hour performance she gave wasn't worth the hassle of traveling to nyc, suffering through 2 horrible opening acts, & waiting nearly 3 hours for her to perform. I'll cut her some slack, because she was on crutches for a foot injury. If she was in pain, she didn't show/sound it and alternated between sitting and half kneeling to perform. However, we did wait nearly 45 minutes after the opening acts for her to take the stage. Her vocals and instrument playing were consistent with her recordings and she performed with emotion and showed gratitude towards the audience. Her fellow band mates played well, also, never missing a beat. As for the opening acts...The 1st act, a British man, (couldn't catch his name)...was a lot of screaming with little variation. I couldn't understand a word he sang & was left without a clue as to what his message was. The 2nd act, Supercute, a trio of 13-15 yr old girls in sparkly outfits, sang about hula hoops and candy, "shh"ing the crowd...I understand everyone must start somewhere & good for them for putting themselves out there so young...but I heard no vocal talent from them & the performance was equivalent to an elementary school talent show, which I think the majority of the audience was too old to be interested in.
Kate Nash
by megham on 5/2/10Music Hall of Williamsburg - BrooklynRating: 5 out of 5I was certainly wary of the new album "My Best Friend Is You". After all, her debut album "Made of Bricks" was hard to live up to, selling almost 60,000 copies its first week alone. "Made of Bricks" had a track list of poppy tunes with attitude--songs that you got stuck in your head and were happy to have them there. However, this album is different and experimental. Nevertheless, he cleverly written lyrics are still present and that's what makes Nash who she is. However, seeing Kate live made it impossible NOT to enjoy her new tracks. She opened the show with "Paris", the first track from her new album and I'll confess that I had been hoping for an even distribution of both albums and wasn't the least bit disappointed when my expectations weren't met. She played old favorites like "Foundations" and "Mouthwash" that were welcomed by her audience. But the new tracks were stuck in my head the moment I left the venue. .Dressed in a leather jacket, she's got that RiotGrrrl attitude that makes you want to embrace your inner (or outer) independent woman. She performed "Mansion Song" a poignant rant about the treatment of groupies along with some self-proclamations about her womanhood. The track at first can leave you put-off, but when you really listen, it's the most female empowering statement I've heard. When she's playing her keyboard it's impossible not to be in awe. She's a genius with music; making the most simple chords into an amazing song. Regarding the new album, I have now been brought to the other side and couldn't be happier.
Kate Nash and her cratches
by DJDJDJDJ on 5/2/10Music Hall of Williamsburg - BrooklynRating: 4 out of 5The first singer on this evening was the guitarist of Kate Nash. I think his name was "Brad" and some of his songs were really cool, he rememered me on Jamie T. from London. Than came Supercute, this 3 girls (maybe 14 or 15) were funny and in some years they are no more the hula hoop girls! And yeah, I bought the cd and support the way of Supercute :-)! Kate came with here cratches on the stage and I like Made Of Bricks, but I had no idea of here new cd. It was sometime a little bit strange, not what you would expectet on such a concert, but interesting. I like some of here new songs and hope she will not take to much of the drugs :-)!

Kate Nash was a great show with lots of passion behind every song. Loved it!!!
Kate Nash, more chick rock than indie
by narwhals on 5/2/10Music Hall of Williamsburg - BrooklynRating: 3 out of 5She was angrier than expected...not as much acoustic or throwback as we thought but stilll Kate Nash and still great.
- by ramz5 on 4/30/10Bowery Ballroom - NEW YORKRating: 2 out of 5
major disappointment. love her music but this was shouty and she didn't even play an encore.
Am I at the right show?
by Anonymous on 4/30/10Bowery Ballroom - NEW YORKRating: 2 out of 5All I can say is "wow". Lamer opening band followed by screaming, over-bassed "singing" I could barely discern...is this the Kate Nash I know and I love? Clearly I fell in love with the CD, not the musician. Totally bummed, not at all sounding like the music on her album.
